Observation...
- Majority alight along Flora Road
- Waiting time of 12 min (Good)
- Bus capacity about 25% - 50% filled.
So the peak loading was higher when you surveyed. For me, since I did it in the earlier part of evening peak, the return route loading was higher. When you went around 7.30pm, the peak loading from Changi Industrial estate had already gone, so make sense on return the bus was not full.
Overall, I think it is a good service!!! I doubt svc 116 has reached a loading of 46 yet (90% times, def not!!!)
Originally posted by TIB 501 D:B.A., just to tell you, I will be travelling during off peak hours(in the afternoon) as I need to go for my SMRT Scania L113CRL ELBO joyride after that. Plus, I will just roughly give you the NL, ML, L and HL format. However, if you need to know the exact figures, I should be able to do it as counting pax on an SD is relatively easy. Furthermore, I won't be expecting more than 20 people on the bus during that time.
That's alright. I did evening peak (around 6pm), yenwei did the latter part of evening peak (7.30pm), so it will be good to see the loading at a another timing like late afternoon.

okay then, i'll joyride it during tomorrow or friday!
I think despite BSEP on 857. The loading level for this bus service is still damn high.
This morning 3 857s refuse to pick me up despite 4 minute intervals because the buses were too packed.
I was supposed to be early for lessons and ended up late. =.=
I have always wondered why are bendies not provided (although there are 1,2 sometimes) on weekdays for 857 when the loading is so damn high during morning peak and the whole of evening.

True. Just last week I saw 2 back to back MAN buses on 857 at Boon Keng MRT, both packed to the door. If the service was with SBST, for sure it would be at least 50% DD fleet. SMRT should deploy more bendies on this service.

This situation is not one-off. It's an everyday thing. Feedback to SMRT about it already now they randomly deployed 1 bendy sometimes on weekdays which is not enuf. 3008U as BSEP to 857 is still not enough.
I took 3008U this morning it was the 4th bus and I almost couldnt board this bus as well.

Anyway, I will only survey 116 in around October or November as stated on my agenda list.

Let's be utterly honest, SMRT simply doesn't have the resources to commit to 857. How many spare bendies does AMDEP have? WLDEP might be able to spare a few but I think they'd rather keep it for WDL intratowns and feeders.
By making it WAB some time back could have worsened the situation given low floor buses sub optimal standing space. OCs might help but how many units can they spare again? I would think that they are damned aware of the situation just that there is nothing much they can do given their current modus operandi (or perhaps a lack of will).
Loading observation for svc 90 at Toa Payoh Interchange (morning peak)
8.04 - 3339E (29p)
8.13 - 5209J (23p) goes off service on return at 9.20 AM
8.20 - 9624S (64p PEAK Loading)
8.28 - 5188K (48p)
8.36 - 3170Z (59p) SWT 90A
8.45 - 5187M (48p)
8.54 - 8723X (26p) SWT 90A
9.04 - 5098L (25p)
9.15 - 9804P (30p)
9.21 - 3339E (25p)
9.30 - 9624S (28p)
I trust that svc 90 has extremely high loading, and hence from 0 - it now has 4 DDs. Though I haven't seen svc 90 to be extremely crowded even during peak hours. Does the high loading come at Tai Seng MRT?? I doubt. The service is in parallel with svc 8 until Tai Seng MRT, and svc 8 has a 5-6 minute morning peak frequency. Even in evenings I see KUBs moderately crowded, not crowded to the door.
I repeat I have observed svc 90 morning / evening peak many times at Toa Payoh and Macpherson. So where is this high loading of svc 90??? Let me know if you know the reply.
Loading observation of svc 334 at Jurong East Interchange
18.14 - 3175K (112p)
18.23 - 8108Y (72p) with 35 pax in queue
18.27 - 8986D (65p)
18.29 - 3149L (51p)
18.34 - 5001R (63p) with 14 pax in queue, not willing to cram in.
18.40 - 3180U (83p)
18.50 - 5191A (69p) with 26p in queue
18.59 - 8906K (60p) long queue but 3147S right behind.
19.00 - 3147S (79p)
19.07 - 8108Y (58p) with 18p in queue waiting for next bus
19.15 - 3175K (101p)
Average loading - 74 pax/bus, Average Frequency - 05/06 minutes.
SDs just can't take the load on 334. I think SBST should add 1 more Wright to this service given the loading. Make it a fleet of 5 DDs, 4 SDs.
Think I'll observe service 4 during the afternoon tomorrow as I have only JUST recovered from my flu from Tuesday...

What i rmb about 857 everytime i want to take it, i have to wait around 20 minutes for it almost in any part of the route during off-peak, took it bfore CTE,Took it at esplanade,Took it at Selegie Road, Took it at Boon Keng MRT, Took it at Little India and even worse of all Yishun Interchange- One time the crowd exceeded the line luckily the bus that came was 998D.
857 case is more to peak hour traffic at CTE and Serangoon.Freq are much better if less jams occur. You put 2 bendies but still stuck at CTE also no use,Waste of resources but still I agree Wldep need to deploy 2 perm bendies..Amdep should deploy 4 OCs and 2 Citaros instead.

actually 857's frequency is not bad during peak hours. 4-5 mins per bus. but it is really not the frequecy problem for 857 already. it is really urgent and needed for high capacity buses to be deployed during peak hours. I always board at the bus stop just few stops after yishun interchange and I am always unable to board them and have to wait for 3-4 buses. although it was merely a 15-20 minutes wait till i can board the bus, i still think its simply ridiculous. This problem has been happening for years and nothing has been done. Making 857 WAB with so many Citaros somehow made the matters worse as Citaro couldnt really accomodate that many people compared to other SDs. I just hope 2-3 bendies can ply 857 during peak hours. During non peak hours, 15-20 minutes wait i think is rather ok because really not much load. but frequency should stay 4-5 minutes after 7pm till the last bus as well. Alot of people returning to Yishun at that point of time which i dun understand why.
Who knows maybe the A24 will be deployed on 857, it could be at WLDEP now...
Joyriding Service 4 today!

I think that will be a good idea - to deploy A24 on 857 and add some more on 190...
Looking forward to your joyride experience.

High chance it will be deployed on AMDEP for the WAB services with non-WAB bendies and KJDEP for massive MK1 bendy replacements. Not to worry 190 doesn't have THAT much MK1 bendies. It's services like 180, 184 and 964 which kind of need these A24 replacements when the MK1s go off.
But strangely why is it at WLDEP and not the other 2 depots...

I can help you to observe the afternoon loading, probably around about 3 or 4pm+
5pm considered peak hours alr...
More interesting is that... there might be MK4s cameoing around on sv4!!! Time for me to go mass picture snapping again. But my phone does not come with the cable to connect with the computer, thus I can't upload photos. I'll just type out the loading pattern format or such...
Loading Observation for s78 at Jurong East Int between 08.00 and 08.30AM
8.02 - 9216L (104p)
8.05 - 3064Y (38p) SWT 78A
8.10 - 8931L (63p)
8.15 - 3221K (38p) SWT 78A
8.20 - 3021X (49p)
8.30 - 9222T (70p)
I think 78A should rather have the KUBs deployed than Wrights. The loading at Clementi for Pandan Ave & Penjuru is quite high and the Wrights may be more useful for doing the full route.
Also the 78A poster shows timing from 07.10 to 08.30 but the last service on 78A seems to be at 08.15 AM.
Loading on s97 Wright
From: Jurong East Int to PSA Building (Alexandra road). Time: 08.42 AM
Jurong East Int (49pax), Jurong East Central (67pax), German Center (51p: almost 28pax got down here), AYE (before Clementi ave 3, 69p), AYE (before Clementi ave 2 exit, 71p), AYE (before Clementi rd exit, 109p PEAK Loading), ITE Dover (94p), Opp Science Center (67p), Opp Normanton Park (62p), Alexandra rd (44p).
How's d loading for 285 nowadays?

That's because they choose bendies over DDs in d first place.Secondly if they expand Amdep or shifted to a new bigger depot then 80% of the problem solved
