SBST Premium Bus Svc 564's Bus Captain refuses to depart and contacted occ after there were no seats for 5 passengers.
Breakdown : Passengers standing were told to alight when the bus was still at its first few stops. The bus that came was a Scania KUB and had only 30 seats. It was supposed to be a Volvo B10M Mark IV. As a premium svc, there's no standing allowed on the Bus. However there's only 1 trip for Svc 564 on weekdays so the pax at the last few stops will not be able to board. If you are unable to get on the bus, there'll be no more trips. Management problem. The passengers were angry that they shouted and scolded the person responding to the occ distress call. One of the pax threatened to complain about the driver.

sbst should not deploy KUB for Premium Bus Svc 564. it should use instead citaro or have a kub modify to have more sit for premium service or normal use. it stupid to have 2 space for wheelchairs. and no sit in the front of the bus. and this LTA rule of no standing in premium service have to be removed. what kind of public transport express is this cannot even stand in the public bus?????

I guess it's for safety reasons.
actually, since SBS Transit has so many Double Decker buses, why not deploy one Double Decker on the premium services? Anyway, only run around two times a day only... so, why not?

It is call premium bus because, u pay extra to guarantee seatings... also part of regulation from LTA as well. the perm bus is 2611 which is deregistering tomorrow (and guess it broke down) and there isnt any more spare MK4 available in BRBP/AMDEP.. so they have no choice but to use a replacement KUB.. and since it is a replacement bus, the OCC should allow the passengers to stand if the passengers agreed..
Most likely today a DD will be deployed and some inspectors will follow the bus to apologize and give complimentary ticket.

I wonder how strictly LTA enforces the no standing rule on premium svcs, and what penalties are imposed on the operators, if any...
Yes, the idea of premium bus svcs is supposed to be faster, more comfortable ride to/from work (hence guaranteed seats, no standing), but most ppl would rather stand on the bus than miss it altogether. Perhaps instead of a strict no standing rule, there can be a rule that premium buses cannot have standing pax at least 90% of the time (out of all trips in a month), or something... So that operators won't under-deploy buses but standing pax allowed if got more pax, since loading not always stable.
Personally, I believe a lower cap should be set on Premium fares, or really go all out and provide "Premium" service with more comfy seats, newspaper etc. Ppl may be willing to pay $3 to $6 during peak hrs, but compared to cheaper Express or City Direct svcs with similar routes, Premium svcs hardly justify the fare with guaranteed seats.

Is there a need for 115G/115W?

Simple answer - no need. all you need is service to start from HGDEP and loop around Kovan / HG St 21.
I'm curous. Just wondering, who say in Singapore, bus services cannot originate from bus depots? Can quote words or share the web address to the article(s) that mentioned that? Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for letting me know of bus route 115. As I read about it, I realise this route is very unique. I believe you meant 115 is an example where bus services do not originate from bus interchange nor bus depot.
I understand Kovan City once had this bus interchange called "Hougang South Bus Interchange". Buses on service 115 probably park at the parking lots that (probably) still remain there. I am not sure about it, because I do not know that area at all. Sorry about it.
Actually, not just 115. 49 also. Basically, Roadside Bus Terminals.
Should bus depots not be allowed to have bus services originating from them, Roadside Bus Terminals.
Should bus interchanges not have the capacity to have any more bus services, Roadside Bus Terminals.
Roadside Bus Terminals.

Ofcourse can originate.
Does 48, 185 not originate from depots??
Just that it's not a trend.. and actually more services should originate from depots to free up some interchange space.
