A total of 17 private Toyota Coasters owned by SMRT (PH2291G - PH2302J, PH2305B, PH2306Z and PH2308T - PH2310K) had been officially laid up during the period between 27th September 2014 and 2nd October 2014, all the way till their end of lifespans.
Did you know...that fare distances displayed on SBS Transit buses could be wrong at boarding? The values are usually less than what they should be, that is, on SVC9, instead of 17.5km opposite Airline House, it shows as 16.9km.
The bus driver is been shown two locations on his ticketing console, one showing the current location and the other one the next loc ation. When the VLS is slow to update the location of the bus, he would not know the differences as both plac es are shown.
When the VLS is not working properly, the bus driver would have to manually control the fare distances and this usually shown up as less than the actual value, resulting a longer distance travelled and more fares charged to the Ezlink card at alighting.
Singaporeans do not like to know much abfout the ticketing system as they deemed it too technical for them to know. This nonchalant mentality allows the bus companies to overcharge without the need to refund them as nobody actually seek for any refunds.
sv386 is actually looping at Punggol Dr. coz the last part of the new road is now named Punggol Dr. not Edgefield Plains. isnt it confusing?

Hi mr SBS3688Y, it is edgefield plains. Not Punggol drive. Cheers.

Please understand what his post is saying first. It could be that there is a change in the name of the stretch of the road service 386 is plying.

It is weird that they use Punggol Dr for the road from Edgefield Plains to Waterway... It should have remained Edgefield Plains... dupdup since u live right there, why dont you check out and confirm?
Cheers.

Hi mr SBS3688Y, where did you get the info that there is a change? If yes, since when? Cheers.

Hi mr Gus.chong, I understand la. It is highly unlikely that there is a change given the fact that the HDB flats are already named as Blk 672A edgefield plains and Blk 670A edgefield plains. How could the road be renamed to Punggol drive after the flats are operational? Then if it is true, all the flats have to be renamed too? Don't think so, right? Cheers.

Hi mr busanalyser, I will go check tomorrow! Cheers!

Well, though what I'm saying is off-topic, but the road named for a particular HDB flat can actually be changed even when operational...I won't elaborate or give examples. As to whether the flats will reflect the change in the street it belongs to, I will leave it to SBS3688Y and other senior bus fans to determine themselves.

Hi mr Gus.chong, if this turns out to be true, then the current edgedale plains leading to the waterway (section rom Punggol drive to inside) will also have to be renamed to Punggol drive. Because not possible to change only 1 side but not the other. They are actually supposed to be edgefield plains end and edgedale plains end since they terminate there. That is why I still think it is unlikely. Anyway I go there check tomorrow! Cheers.
All, I just went to check personally at the road. There is no new road sign indicating Punggol drive on this new road. So it is not Punggol drive. I took sbs 386 and asked the bus control station people. They say it is still called edgefield plains as of this moment and the bus route is still updated as edgefield plains. So we shall wait over the next few weeks for any changes. Cheers!

The VLS works by GPS, which to compensate for inherent inaccuracies, registers the fare stages by detections of the bus arriving within certain radius to the bus-stop.
If for some reason, the GPS is totally useless, the bus will use the odometer for dead reckoning.
Systems that use GPS and dead-reckoning will never be 100% accurate. This is particularly true for buses that pass bus-stops without stopping as it may not give enough time for the VLS to figure out where it is, especially in densely built up areas like CBD, and underground areas like many interchanges now.
If you want the most accurate way out, you use locationing beacons and plant them at every single bus-stop. But will you want to fork out that $$$?

Hi mr SBS3688Y, I did not see any new road sign there. Should have been a false alarm. Cheers.

hi mr dupdup77; actually the new Punggol Dr roadsign was put up a couple of weeks ago. initially this sign was fixed parallel to this new road. Therefore i was surprised why this new road is Punggol Dr and not Edgefield Plains. but today morning i went there again and noticed it has been re-positioned to be parallel to the LRT tracks. the LTA contractor fixed wrongly initially.. cheers.

Yes that could be possible. It just does not make sense otherwise. Must have been a wrong sign.

...that service 88 received its first CDGE B9TLs back in 2006 and finally received WAB certification in June 2013. Its the last service that received CDGE B9TLs brand new to receive WAB certification
