Really? Cant they use the coach u-turn? Because I've been to Msia and I change my bus from Spore to Msia ones at JB custom, where the Spore bus will then return back to Spore. So where they do their u-turn??
Saw 965A n 965 bunching up just now, and it happens that both loading were the same, not quite empty but rather about 15-25ppl? And that's seen from the last stop at Woodlands before entering Wdl Int.

to be fair, the SLE/CTE portion at time of introduction was quite a time-saver. only now with heavier traffic, it sucks. hopefully once the widening works are completed, things would be better.

I think you made a mistake or have the wrong idea. Transport operators are for-profit organisations, whose primary objectives is to make profits while providing services within legal boundaries.
why will SMRT axe 854E when it can milk each passenger an extra 60cents? the express sector saves labour costs, diesel, and on the long run, more trips can be made with the time saved. bit by bit, the savings and extra revenue adds up.
evening 74e gets filled up to the door from AMK MRT (and not from Bt Timah). 502 gets fresh healthy loads from Jurong East too. Nowadays, people no longer avoids funny looking bus routes like a plague
and now I'm wondering why was boarding never banned after the express sector, because they generate extra revenue, at the expense of those who boarded earlier to enjoy the "express" sector and purported "20% time savings", which is just an illusion created using long-winded expressways

there's no place for buses to U-turn after Woodlands CIQ. there is a U turn sign, but is blocked by 2 large gates.
in contrasts, JB CIQ allows u turn both directions
