Personally I dont see much problem with 161 despite taking it 2-3 times a week to and fro from HG to WDL weekdays and weekends.

Quite frankly I also dont get all the complaints about the VO3X fleet. C'mon.........there is DD, what else do you want??
And the frequency part certainly not as good as 168, but it is good enough. 10-15 min off-peak frequency is quite alright and 161 is considered very reliable and the driving is more or less predictable also (neither too slow nor too fast).

If want to complain, please do so for services like 151 (unreliable and awfully slow nowadays), 74 (Citaro for weekdays omg), 171 (crowded and unreliable), 854 (dunno why suddenly frequency become cui at night now), 72 (still crawling down Tamp Rd).

I was a typical office worker which obviously excluded me from travelling around on weekdays. (If I take 161, it is to paktor, tektor, jalan-jalan, kia-kia etc etc)
And I take 161 at night to go home from WDL. The weekend day trips are obviously towards WDL from where I take other buses to reach the northern areas. Therefore my trip profile should identify me with the majority of 161 weekend users.
Nothing to complain about 161 at all, except the occasional SD.....but definitely not half the fleet is SD on weekends.
Edit: I also forget to add that I take 161 from HG Int to my cosy abode many more times weekdays and weekends. You can take it from me that the 161 fleet is really nothing to complain about.

Actually, people from sengkang area can take 965 but don't understand why they chose 161.Personally, i feel that timing is bout same from sengkang to woodlands.

Very simple - because 161 is so much more reliable than sv 161. And on weekdays you have a full fleet DD service. Who would want to stand in a 965 when you can go seated in a 161. Definitely, 161 has taken pax from sv 965.

161 is faster.
By a huge margin.
The only time it makes sense to take 965 is when you are going to Yishun/Khatib, not Woodlands.
Personally I feel that your sense of time must have taken quite a whack.

I remember there will be people who will tell you 965 is very reliable.
And then there will also be those who tell you 161 isn't half as reliable as 168....though perhaps they might give that 965 is just horrible.
I agree with SBS2601D on this. Sv 161 is very reliable, quite good frequency around 10 mins peak, 15 mins off-peak and during weekdays full fleet DDs, even in off-peak.
On weekends, you see more SDs but I think that is because of the loading. The typical loading whenever I have taken 161 DD on weekends is between 50-55 pax. Does not cross 60 pax on most occassions, very easily managed by SDs.
Ofcourse given that it is a long distance route, DDs would be better and I think once they observe the loading on weekends, they might add more DDs. But so many SDs on weekends like last one is also not usual.
Actually putting SD on 161 is not a good idea. And loading on weekend is quite significant, day and night.
But if we talk about ferrying people from point A to B, it appears that most of the time, the half SD fleet (refer to LSK's post) can cope. Though at times, barely.
There was also a time where people missed the last 161 on weekend night because it was SD. But such instances are rare. So a full DD fleet is desirable...but necessity or not, I think SBST is making right calls most of the time.
Its different from my complaints about 74 and 147 SDs. These services need full DD fleet, nothing less. And the latter's frequency is erratic and leaves you fuming during night off-peak.

I think SBST has taken note of sv 74 and made improvements to it. As per sources, few SDs are replaced by DDs.
For sv 147, I think the SDs are supposed to trail behind a DD to take the excess pax that do not board a DD during peak. I feel sv 147 is pretty well managed (especially during peak hours) and also you have many alternatives along the route, unlike sv 74.

147 now also got SD buses doing on weekends.So far as I know,the DD buses are the ones usually did 147 on weekends and not the SD buses.

6/11 isn't at least half..and I still recall there were some weekends with more than 6 SDs. Just thank god no people stomp, dk why they dw to put more DDs like 168..
Anyway, if 161's frequency is good/reliable, mind explaining to me why I've to wait about 15-25mins for the next bus after skipping the front DD? It's somewhat not consistent with the interval. Or even some drivers speeding on expressway and ended up bunching with a DD on Weekend morning?
I just took 161 again last night. Around 1030pm. VO3X
Journey took 40 min to reach HG Int from WDL, waiting time was 5 min, the queue was until the point where the barricades double-back.
Granted this was "off-peak" "no jam" period. So less people.
The 161-regular is mystified by claims that 161 is unreliable and has too many SDs on weekends.Of the buses that pass my place, I think only only 88 has the potential for claims of being more reliable as far as frequency is concerned.
If 161 was really cui, then I dont really know where services like 963, 966, 171 stand.
I am quite fed up with these 3 by comparison. And its not like these are nobody-services. There are regular commuters like myself who curse and swear waiting for these buses.

next one 30 min sweep customers clean deli deli ... then after that 5min come again no cust...
856 : 10am all stuck at woodlands between 920-950 am come sembawang that time 10am 3-5. 856 buses run together for hi shun then subsequently the next 856 would arrive after 20 min
chance upon the 20 min one..... Happy sardines
Then 965 , my favourite joyride , during off peaks got some bus driver hate to carry ppl in front his bus already swept the passengers clean for him , 3 min later he comes along to khatib knowing that there won't be a passenger....... I go up his face black ..... Reach sengkang int , the bus in front just finished boarding .... So he drops me off and speeds to the boarding berth ( frequency 40 sec ) takes 2 pax and misses the light so the bus in front get head start to start 'sweeping ' in the end he is just gonna take that 2 pax to the eway and drive at a ridiculous 40kph until lentor ........ Fun eh ?
