In contrast, for 854 and 25; 67 vs 28, 2, 13, commuters may alternate between SBSTransit and SMRT, meaning that should either company fail to operate a trip, all the revenues will be lost to its competitors.
This has resulted in SBSTransit and SMRT deploying a disproportionatly large fleet of buses for 854, 25, 67 and 28 in contrast to 15, 27, 34 and 58 in terms of loading, as indicated in sgwiki.
Also, for 27, 34 and 15, despite buses being crowded implying profitability, bus operators are unwilling to increase level of service by default, resulting in LTA having to tap on tax-payer's money to increase the level of service for these buses through the BSEP.
Thus, the most straightfoward way to address overcrowding and congestion for 27, 34, 147, and the Tampines Avenue 7 / Loyang Corridor may be to introduce a bus operated by SMRT, commencing from Yishun or Yio Chu Kang, duplicating these crowded services to a certain extent, to serve the area.
Similarly, overcrowding for Bukit Panjang buses may be efficiently addressed, through introducing buses by SBSTransit, commencing from Jurong East terminal to serve the area, duplicating 190 instead of pumping tax-payer's money to SMRT through BSEP.

Yes, 67 will remain between Tampines and Little India for sure, and then will mostly be run by SBST. The place where its loading will get affected is around Bukit Timah, but I still believe it will have significant load from CCK to Bukit Timah, just that SMRT might not need to ply the service (may get renumbered) all the way and can cut short it earlier.
Originally posted by SBS 9556E:Service 67 is essential to ensure service quality as it is the only bus within the Changi Road, Tampines Area, and partially Jalan Besar Serangoon area which does not belong to SBSTransit.
Without 67, SBSTransit will be operating as monopolies within the area. As private profit-oriented company, other than meeting the requirements mandated by LTA and PTC to avoid greater fines, SBSTransit has no incentive or liability to improve level of service. Thus, it will be natural for SBSTransit to cut back on services to maxmise profit, so as to be accountable to shareholders.
This is evident in the persistent overcrowding of buses such as 190, 960 and etc along the Bukit Panjang corridor for SMRT services, despite BSEP such as 972. As there are no buses by SBSTransit serving as alternatives for commuters, SMRT operate as monopolies, and it is natural for them to cut back services.Similarly, SBSTransit operating as monopolies within the Sengkang and Hougang region, and the Loyang / Cargo Complex area has resulted in SBSTransit operating at profit-maximisation level of service for 9, 19, 89, and to introduce 89e. Due to poor level of service in terms of long frequency and overcrowding, commuters have no confidence in buses, and this has resulted in long jams along Tampines Avenue 7, and Loyang Avenue.
I dont agree with any of the points you have made above. They seem very myopic.
The reason 190, 960 have poor service have nothing to do with monopoly here. It is just that SMRT ran out of high capacity buses and took a very long time to bring DDs in. Was LTA sleeping and letting them take their own time?
Cargo services 9, 19, 89 have received improvements consistently, and have a good frequency and managing loads very well. So I totally disagree here. Yes, there are still improvements required in certain services, but if 67 has to ply from Tampines to Little India, does not make sense to give it to SMRT. There is no depot close by, will have to run buses from AMDEP and let SMRT concentrate on CCK/BPJ/YIS/BBT/WDL before it wants to expand.

15, 27, 34 all have height restriction. I agree SWT can have DDs.
854 is good? Really? I cant wait to have more high capacity buses on 854. 854 might look good between Bedok and HG because you have 25,55 to cover the stretch, but look at it from HG to Yishun. Pathetic. Rigids just cant manage the loading. Tell me when was the last time 854 got a capacity upgrade???
58 is being run very well.. The loading is catered very well by existing fleet. I don't know where you see a problem for 58.

Your evidence does not stand.
The jams is not created by inefficient bus services. In fact, the delays and hence the overcrowding is caused by the jam itself. The jam is a result of a single traffic junction controlling the busiest avenues of two of the east's busiest towns, and one of the island's most used expressway. If you notice carefully 89e at PM peak comes at pinpoint accuracy with space to sit, all the way until it reaches the junction. That's why if you observe from Sengkang onwards the buses are always late.

58's DDs still not as much compared to 59's, or is it because I take 58 during off-peak hours when the S-shift DDs aren't running?

That should be the reason. For 58, bi-directional high loading is at UBI because it is the only service here. Then towards Pasir Ris very high loading. Opp direction, many pax alight at Tai Seng and Serangoon. So current mix of DD/SD seems okay to me.

854 used to have many bendies until one point all the rigids starts to replace the bendies at a much lower rate. all its bendies seems to be on split shifts,

WLDEP bendies are split, 530U,755M,736T are full day, i think only 975U and 1019Z are full day. 981B,1020T,1022M,1111P are split.
AMDEP side i think 620T n 622M are full day, the OC suspect full day. I think only 1 or 2 bendies from AM are full day. 984T is split.

984T just loves to be on Yishun feeders
hard to camp for a bendy on 854 ...

I always see bendies though on 854 mainly in the afternoon when the split bendies starts shift

There are ofcourse bendies on 854, but the number of rigids is just not justified for the high loading the service has. Actually 854 should be more meant to cater between Yishun and Eunos. IF SMRT does not have enough buses, it should just ply 854 from Yishun to Eunos with high capacity buses. There is anyway 25 with almost full fleet DD service going in parallel all the way from AMK Ave 3/ YCK rd junction.

Likely DD will be exchanged with MK1/2 and Habit. Then WAB bendy prob. with Volgren/remaining Habit.

I heard that as well two weeks back. So looks like the news is more genuine.

There is no certainty they will buy WAB Bendies yet. So unless they place that order, the mk1 and 2 Bendies will stay. First will come the 200+ DDs.

thats much better... 103 DDs for SMRT obviously not enough with this current situation & somemore more new services coming up for new towns under BSEP.
i am sure they must order more

No way SMRT Buses would buy any new bendy buses. Existing bendy buses displaced by double deckers is more than sufficient to cover any lack of capacity elsewhere, though SMRT Buses will have to put up with the 50% WAB rigid ratio for existing WAB routes.
SMRT needs more capacity and they sorely lack it. SMRT Buses is better off replacing one retiring rigid bus for one new double decker bus. This is in effect a capacity upgrade which SBS Transit has went through for the past few years.

"No way"?
Please don't bitch around.
SMRT has already clearly indicated its interest in new bendies for non-trunks. "No way"? Dream on la.
rmb that there's this pic which shows that smrt will buy 100 bendies in one-to-one exchange?

They alr hinted clearly, their stand is thy different buses for different purposes...
No certainty, but already very high probability...
I think when the DDs come in the trunks' bendies will go over to non-trunks and replace the rigids there so as to boost capacity for the time being. Maybe a few DDs will go over to selected feeders too, but I believe it won't be many, and it won't stay there for long (probably a trial).
