With new svc and fleet upgrading Smrt should expand their depots..
A new Woodlands depot that can accommodate at least 550 buses for Woodlands regional,Woodlands north & Bukit Panjang
A new depot nearby Amdep that can hold 500 buses minimum for Yishun,Simpang & probably Sembawang too.
Bulim capacity is 600 I think and probably for Tengah,Bukit Batok & Choa Chu Kang besides Boon Lay
A sub bus park nearby Kallang that can hold at least 280 buses mainly for cbd & eastern bound,Bukit Merah & Harbourfront svc.Remember Marina South getting new interchange also.

SMRT has already clearly indicated its interest in new bendies for non-trunks. "No way"? Dream on la.
Do you have to be abusive just because you disagree?
SMRT Buses has sufficient bendy buses to work with its existing fleet until 2017.
Where is the hard proof from SMRT Buses for your "its interest in new bendies for non-trunks"? Where are you going to park the new bendy buses if you purchase them before the Mk 1 and Mk 2 bendy buses retire?
If Smrt die2 wanna use bendies for feeders & intratowns beside those short trunk like 860 etc then they will need at least 110 WAB bendies...But for sure cannot have all bendies fleet for feeders..

169 should seriously pull out more bendy or use DD for peak hours. Waited at the stop before Yishun interchange, only up till 16-20mins, 1 bus arrive without stopping. The sub. bus was nowhere to be seen also...spent about 25-30mins there waiting for it...

I still saw somebody asking for 3mins frequency for 911, with all SDs in the fleet...

"That being said, we have procured a new batch of double-decker buses,
which will be plying the roads alongside the articulated buses in the later part of this year.
Both types of buses are needed to fulfil different passenger needs."
There. You said that there is no way. I take it as you think SMRT will buy 0 bendies for good. Which isn't true! And when did I even say the new bendies will come before the old ones go?? I only said they have interest to purchase new bendies. You? You said there is NO WAY SMRT will buy new bendies, which isn't true of course! Well I'm sorry for using that language if you don't like it, but don't completely think it's all safe and friendly on the net as I'll tell u it's not. And it will take a long time to make it a beautiful place with rainbows and butterflies.

Bro, I don't think they did say they are fully interested in both types of buses(bendy n DD).
Perhaps from now till 2017, they could be still considering whether there's a need for such bendy buses with 80 new routes under BSEP, more train lines upcoming etc.
Which means that SMRT MAY not buy any bendy if running SDs and DDs are okay..and it may be true. But we can't be sure of it too~ Just don't be like someone can already..

1. Stop putting words into my mouth. I was replying to the comment in the context of "If happen by this year...". I said SMRT Buses will not buy new bendy buses in the immediate future because there is sufficient in the existing fleet to go around and there will be insufficient space to accomodate a purchase of new bendy buses on such short notice. I did not say SMRT Buses will not buy any new bendies ever.
2. Stop putting words into SMRT's mouth. There is equal chance of reading the statement and interpretate as SMRT using existing bendy buses to perform the dual operation. It could have gone either way. There is NO explicit statement of SMRT Buses expressing interest or intending to buy new bendy buses.

4. If you have read my posting history, I actually support the use of bendy buses under the correct conditions (feeder routes being one of them). I do not understand why you have to jump at today's reply.

I neve did say they are fully interested...
For example (example only ah!), if now got bendy-DD or double-stair-three-door DD maybe bendies would never be considered already.

I never say you said...I'm just saying base on what they gave.
How I wish that could happen~ I'm sure with Double Decker Bendy, 179 will be much in need of those But then regardless if there are these in Singapore, I still do not think that it will fully replace the benefits of a bendy bus. Not everyone will be willing to climb up and down all the time, not even for just 5mins.

You need to be aware of one thing that SMRT has to say both DDs and Bendies are important. They still have a huge fleet of Bendies, so they have to protect them. They can't be like "oh we were wrong with just relying on Bendies all these years". You have to understand that the statement is more political. Let's wait for a WAB bendy order. 388S has been around for more than a year. It it was so important for SMRT, an order would have been placed already. For now, let's rejoice that SMRT has taken the tight decision by introducing DDs.

I don't think SMRT has anywhere made a statement on "new Bendies"... So watch your words.
Originally posted by SMB128B:They alr hinted clearly, their stand is thy different buses for different purposes...
No certainty, but already very high probability...
I think when the DDs come in the trunks' bendies will go over to non-trunks and replace the rigids there so as to boost capacity for the time being. Maybe a few DDs will go over to selected feeders too, but I believe it won't be many, and it won't stay there for long (probably a trial).
Let's talk about it when they actually place a WAB bendy order... Till then it Is all speculation.
lets not turn this into another DD vs bendy debate.
Originally posted by carbikebus:Just wait for the DDs and Bulim depot…dun speculate too much else there will be more flamewars than discussions.
No wonder i heard speculations that Wldep wanna part control 851 too most probably they are the ones deploy DDs too
Oh! That will be great if 851 is getting DDs in first phase.

And yes, you are right. It was a different era, where MRTs were few, traffic was lesser. Hence, people would still take long distance on 61 and DDs made sense. Today, if you deploy DD on 61 it is a priviledge.

If SBST still had Route 61, would they have B9TLs on it? Also, it would have made better sense for SBST to control Route 61 if it had been HGDEP majority back then. With regards to new bus interchanges being built, how about re-opening Hougang South for business? Also, some WDL routes can start from WLBP instead of WRI. Simei also could have a terminal if possible.
If SBST did have sv 61, yes it would have given 6-8 DDs on sv 61 not because it really needs it, but SBST do have DDs to give. So if it sees capacity exceeding 60-70 pax, it does give DDs to services for those particular time slots.

Regarding Simei having a bus terminal, very difficult because no space and lot of crowd. Hougang South may not have an interchange but can definitely have a bus terminal with 2 buses starting from here (and I dont count 115 because it really needs to be withdrawn).
325 would be a good candidate to start from Hougang South. 113 as well looping @ St 11, and going to the inner part of HG Ave 1 that does not have a service today.

sign of too many DDs in SBST

Also a sign of better quality of service. On many long distance routes, even if the loading is 65-70 pax, dd could make sense as traveling in Sd can make experience quite bad.

Too many DD, yet don't want to deploy on 161 weekends =.= HG logic...

Coz weekend load toggles between 40-60 pax for 161... Manageable by SDs, yet there are good number of DDs plying as well.
Hi.
I would like to share with everyone how I think the new livery would look like on the MAN Lion's City DD, and roughly how it would look like on the Double Decker bus models that SMRT has in its bus fleet.
This is done using Photoshop CS3 Extended, on the drawing at http://www.4shared.com/photo/mx0D9Dlk/man_lions_city_dd.html. It is basically a "stretched" version of the new livery that is being applied to the Standard 12-metre buses that SMRT has.
Please advise me on how it could be better, and I will edit the picture and share the edited picture here for further comments. Thanks!
