It's a very good route... Will be very useful for all those working at Maple tree, NOL.

Because Sv 518's crowds differs heavily depending on the events along its route (think along the line of the events along TP, Orchard, Suntec etc), and those aren't exactly conforming to the regular office-working hours imo..
Agreed.
Just what I was thinking.
Flexibility just isn't there. Who says demand will only come weekday peak? 518 could be equally or even more packed than those timings on weekends! I know because very few would miss the bus on weekdays but more than 30 people would miss the bus on weekend nights, when there are no S shift and E shift! An extra weekend/PH full day would do 518 good imo.

Convert into weekday peak + weekend & PH full day enough alr
To those who think express svc is redundant try talking that to working adults in the Cbd..They wouldn't mind pay premium to get a seat, less traveling times with skipped stops and they knew students wouldn't take the svc.
Ridiculous for HGDEP to take so many duties for 141. Just leave it to BRBP.

Sorry, my nephew's friend (like me) also loved the service.
From his home in Tampines he always take 518 to his school in Dhoby Ghaut and back.
In reality chances of getting a seat on 518 during peak is like winning 4D... nearly impossible...
Still many (including myself) flock to this service, makes no sense for it to be treated and operated in a way such as this...

1) You said "the bulk of Express 518's demand comes from Tampines" ? -
Are you kidding me? Explain to me why in the world Sv 518A exists then, and the fact that they had withdrawn Sv 518B after running it for years alongside 518A.
And explain too why in the world they choose to put the 2 perm Sv 518A buses as the Mk4s which have more seats, and not the Citaros?
Obviously there is quite a demand from Pasir Ris as well yeah, just maybe not at the time slot which you took Sv 518 (which I assume usualy it's off-peak hours other than your trip today).
Have you tried taking Sv 518 / 518A during AM Peak from Pasir Ris then? Many office people use 518 & 518A as a means to get a seat + get to work from Pasir Ris. & I've seen so many packed to the brim Sv 518 buses (KUBs, Citaros, Mk4s) in the morning every weekday.
Unless you're talking about off-peak hours, then maybe what you says holds a bit of sense, because Off-peak, indeed more people take from Tampines areas.

You do know that Sv 518 is more of like a service that serves the office crowds on Weekdays right? So if I'm a office worker and my working hours are from 9am-5pm, during PM Peak, would I be taking Sv 518 from Pasir Ris or would i be squeezing with many others onboard Sv 518 from the City / Suntec area?
Obviously the latter ? So if the latter is true for PM Peak, then like, duh, you wouldn't find much people onboard Sv 518 from Pasir Ris / Tampines right?
You should consider your sweeping statements again after I highlighted them. Thanks.

Clearly no need to have dual depot.

For PSR Dr 1, actually there's quite a number of Temasek Poly students who would take a bus from wherever they are along Dr 1, and transfer to Sv 15 somewhere along the route (the Blk 571 bus stop) and then direct bus to TP after that~
Especially for those who don't like to pay the flat fare on Sv 518~

I'm going abit OT in my reply to yours, but I think they need to look at those Airport-bound svcs and their frequencies beyond the usual working hours too.
Because somehow I observed the Airport staff's change of shift hours at night are somewhere around 8pm & after that, but by that time they wait for the bus at CGA PTBs, the usual fleet adds & excess buses on the Airport-bound svcs are no longer running. So that's why it's very often I see super packed buses from the Airport everyday (worse on Weekends) after 8pm or so~

If I live in areas near or within Pasir Ris, I'll certainly hop on the morning peak trip rather than the evening peak one for better accuracy in loading monitoring.
I'll leave it to those who take Express 518 during its peak demand periods, including you and SMB128B/SBS9644J, to judge. I apologize for my fault of judgement.
Hi!
I was quite annoyed about the long frequencies of buses 187 and 188 along Bukit Batok West Ave 4, the two bus services long frequencies caused a built up of students along that stretch as my school is on that stretch. And when the bus arrive, both buses 187 and 188 arrive at the same time and both were MAN NL323F that was almost filled to the brim. I managed to squeezed up Svc 188 but my friend could not board as the doors close and was forced to wait for the 2nd bus of the same service, same goes for Svc 187.
I hope this BSEP can do something to this services during school times, I also hope that SMRT can add trips around noon time for these services and work with MOE to finally work out a plan.

Very true..188 frequency can go up to 20mins during off peak, especially between 12pm to 3pm..

sec sch students yes. they do take 502 from JW extension in AM peak
i think since the express bus fares for students are cheaper compared to where they charge adult fare last time =)

Seeing that I made the post that start off the whole 518 issue, I guess that viewpoint I made in that post may help in your judgement.
Or the operator can pull off a 700 and convert them all into trunk services (in case you do not know, 700 is formally an express bus)

Did you write in to feedback abt 518?!?
518 should have 3 or 4 DDs....
ever since extend to MBS, it's one reason to not take 518 from Orchard back to the east because it's longer.
and full fleet SD with major Citaro/KUB means there's chance of standing. hence, unattractive to people to take risk to wait.
and to attract more PSR residents to take it to City and back, 518A should run full day at perhaps 30mins freq, 20mins during peak.
the last time i took 518 was more than 2 years ago... after that, service 5 all the way.
If 502 and 513 can have DDs i see no reason why 518 cant have DDs.
Anyway, i think it would be advisable to introduce 5e? Such a long and busy route.
I have taken 518 last bus during an event and it was packed like sardines, i had to stand on the steps all the way from suntec area to tampines.
Originally posted by carbikebus:513 should convert into full day ops but off peak around 17-23mins okay..can provide alternative.
off peak and weekend demand would be low since it only serves the shenton way financial district. Full day ops possible under a route variant that serves more areas such as suntec, mbs and harbourfront. hopefully something like this can be done for other city direct or similar routes (65x, 850E, 982E, 951E), especially 850E and 951E. Similar to sbst's cityshopper routes last time, but charging express instead of premium fares.
I think everyone here who feels strongly should write to both SBST and LTA for introducing DDs. I am sure they can start with 2 DDs to try out.
502 on the other hand can also get more DDs especially on weekends... Just 2 DDs is not enough for this service.
