The SDs orders were placed before policy annoucement for projected 6.9m
Once rail lines is up, buses will also be cramp due to increased population but incumbent government would also like to fulfill SGreans wish to own cars.
Satellite road pricing for whole SG will make people pay for road usage rather than ERP at city zone currently

Maybe because they expect load to drop once DTL and TSL open. Then there will also be ERL which will take away load from Marine Parade areas.I just hope they dont go Tokyo style. Its a mesh of overground and metro, with no scope for bus services.
Correction, Tokyo has a very comprehensive train service and also an excellent bus service with many routes in place, functions like hub n spoke, there are places without train/monorail/underground network, it will be provided by buses.

CTB/NWFB/KMB practices it...
Rts like 63X? Those are routes where "SD cannot fetch finish but 12m DD cannot fill" types of route. 63X is slightly duplicated with 68X, plus it does not go Sham Shui Po so the catchment is damn low. 66M is also another example.

DTL has only 3 carriages like CCL. Imagine how crowded it will be.. Then there will still be people taking buses. TSL and ERL do have 4 carriages but TSL will only be fully completed in 2021 (hope no delays like DTL2) while for ERL it's still unconfirmed (likely 2025). People have to rely on buses or existing MRT lines during the years.

Good point. The only problem is there is no patience. Even if ppl see another bus behind in 2 mins, will still squeeze into first one. MRT will be much faster, so u can c ppl squeezing
BusAnalyzer:
In Tokyo you have express train services. For subways trains come at an average freq of 30 seconds during peak. Yamanote Line comes in 2 minutes. Even commuter lines come in less than (or equal to) 5 mins.
Yes there may be little buses but the trains are already good enough to compensate! Singapore?! Nah. Crappy freq and short trains. And stop here stop there until I siao alr... -.-

You got it.
798 gets 10.3/11.3 Tridents during off peak. 3/4 of its route is express.
And short haul gets 12m DDs too. Eg 11C, 98A and 296A

Even if bunch up, they also squeeze into first one

Population = 13 million (around 3 times Singapore population)
more workers come in from neighboring districts to work in Tokyo
the city and its metropolis is bigger than Singapore.
They have an amazing network if over and underground trains (which was my earlier point). Metro frequency is 2-3 minutes (def not 30 sec or even a min), Yamanote comes every 3-4 mins, commuter trains depends can be between 10-15 mins.
before my current job, I was responsible for Asia Pacific including Japan, and if you have any question of how to get anywhere within Tokyo metropolis, you can ask me.
I have to say as a proud Singaporean, the public transport is better here than Tokyo... You find every train crowded at all times of day, just not peak, and it is not fun traveling in them. But cars are out of question, so you don't have a choice.

Okay I ask you simple question.
Tell me how to get to Ikebukuro from Shinjuku station.
Rail only. Besides time, I dont care about anything else.
Singapore is nowhere far from the situation. Look at the lasting consequences of having 3-car trains running at 4-7 mins freq on the CCL, causing catastrophic crush loads during peak where people along Paya Lebar - Serangoon and Buona Vista - Bishan could not board. Buses come and travel at a duration that felt like ages. Hope the new CCL trains would help (even during off peak)

If you are in direction of Higashi-Shinjuku just walk there and take the Fukutoshin line and you will be in Ikebukuro in 15 mins total.
whats your point on CCL discussion? I am already saying Tokyo has an intensive over-underground network that buses are redundant, and very few.

Maybe I hadn't made myself clear...
What about only regarding travelling time?
And about CCL I was saying that Singapore's PT need improvement. Am looking forward to the 40 new trains. Hope it will bring around changes!

Yes, SGPT needs improvement. Hence the construction of Canberra MRT.
It was needed considering there are around 50 HDBs that will open in 2016-2017. There are also many open spaces along Canberra Crescent and Canberra st, where future HDBs and condos can come in 2018-2020.
Along with MRT, should also plan an interchange there. Some services from Yishun can move there.

Would you answer my question?

Canberra sounds nicer than Simpang

If I am not wrong earlier on the authorities have plans to develop Simpang (located Northeast of Yishun New Town which is currently a training ground for SAF Artillery formation) into a housing estate but the plans seems to have delayed or scrapped.
Also the stretch of MRT tracks in-between Yishun and Sembawang doesn't passby the proposed Simpang New Town.
Long time since a new side platform above-ground MRT station had been constructed... the last was Dover (which was also the first)

There is no plan to develop Simpang as of now. Canberra is going to be developed in a big way. No major developments in Sembawang either. Woodlands South have huge developments coming in future, so also along Woodlands East (ave 10).

Extension of operating hours for Service 63M
Finally something is done to ease 63's load and cope with the horrible waiting time for 63. Becoming a full day service like 143M. Probably gonna use 4-5 buses. I suppose some of the Split shifts doing 63M now would become full day buses on 63.
