Recently, LTA wrote an article (Factors to consider before launching bus services) to respond to the "numerous requests for public bus services".
Well, there is something I do not quite understand.
What does it mean if "the provision of such services comes at the expense of other bus routes that serve more commuters"?
Is it that the new bus services would cause a fall in ridership of the other bus services? ![]()

Not like LTA has been very good at route planning... They should create new connections and reduce duplication of routes.

I have proposed this route because the amount of Foreign Workers taking this bus svc from their dorms @ Jalan kayu on Sundays and PHs are in loads. Also, the people who are travelling to nex also utilise this bus service if svcs 43,70 hasnt arrived. It would be a good SWT on weekends and PHs.

Ang Mo Kio Int - Upper Thomson Rd
Ang Mo Kio Int,Blk 324,Blk 209,AMK Pr Sch,Opp Mayflower Sec Sch,Opp Blk 246,Opp Blk 248,Aft AMK Ave 1
Loading has been high from AMK Int to this stretch from 7am to 7.15am due to students going to school at many schools and services 132,165 and 169 also cannot handle the load.
The schools are AMK Sec,AMK Pri,Mayflower Sec,Bishan Pk Sec and Peirce Sec. This stretch can have double decks full to front and difficulty boarding. SBS8691D is currently deployed at this timing and has around 10 people left behind at Ang Mo Kio Primary Stop. The loading drops at Opp Mayflower Sec Sch as majority of the students are from this school. However, loading remains until the last bus stop, and from then loading is smooth.
Bus deployed for this service should be 3 double decks and 1 single deck, with a frequency of 4-7 minutes.

166 comes every 9 minutes...
At this moment, Jurong West lacks a few intra-town bus connections:
In future, there will be new industrial developments at Bulim and Tukang.
To anticipate future demands for bus services to the two new industrial areas and to provide for the missing intra-town bus connections in Jurong West, I would like to suggest a 16.8km route extension to bus route 181

Many options from AMK to AMK ave 1.. And Sv 166 gets around 45-50 pax at interchange. Bus can accommodate more than 100 pax.. Alternately, 132/165 both have empty capacity as lot of people alight at AMK MRT (# of people boarding May be half of those who alight).

Hi mr SBS5010P, very good. Short and sweet. But i dont think it will happen lor. Thanks for thinking for the welfare of punggol residents. We are having 161 along punggol road (at sengkang side) and also the upcoming sbs 168 at TPE stop soon. We are going to have many services although our estate is at one end of singapore where nobody likes due to the distance. Soon it gonna all change.
For jurongwestresident's proposed extension of 181, good connection between bulim, boon lay and taman jurong, but off peak and weekend loading towards the industrial area at tukang would likely be quite low. maybe can operate similar to 98/98M.
For SBS5010P's punggol feeder 380, the connection to punggol way and sumang link can also be made by amending 43 to serve these roads instead of punggol central. but judging from how the lrt stations along punggol dr were opened first before svc 50 was introduced, it is possible that lrt will serve as the main means of transport for the new flats at nibong and sumang, with a bus svc only coming some time later.

Hi mr 201911, Punggol west LRT is operating soon by end June 2014. Frequency may be reduced at this stage. LRT will definitely come first before any bus services are routed in! Cheers.

Not express enough.. Just skipping few stops along Tampines rd and Simei Ave does not make the service express. Sv 5 though really needs capacity upgrade. 2 SD slots to DD for sure.

I don't see the bus really getting enough pax. A more detailed survey needs to be done.. Also bus cannot stop at TPE future stop (if u know where the location is). It would be good to have a service from Punggol thought o CCK via Yew Tee. This service should pass by Compass Point before joining TPE.
Proposal for Sv 43M

Punggol Place - one stop
Senthul Crescent - near blk 313A
Punggol Walk - near blk 308A
Punggol Central - blk 264A
Punggol Way - after Soo Teck LRT
Same route until Buangkok Drive
Buangkok Green (2 stops)
Buangkok View (Woodbridge hospital, Alliance International Hospital, Sunlove Home)
and back...
** provides connection to Buangkok MRT and IMH complex
** feeder connection within newly developed Punggol west town to MRT
** trunk connection to Sengkang for Punggol West residents
** operation time: am/pm peak with 1 bus doing down route from Soo Teck to Punggol MRT.
** alternative: loop @ Buangkok Link.

I strongly suggest Sv 43 should be diverted via Senthul Crescent and Punggol walk before going to Punggol way and continuing on existing route. While LRT will be there, good to have modified Sv 43 to connect residents to Sengkang and YCK road areas as I believe there will be significant pax who will want to go to these towns.

Extend 84 can liao
Sv 43 can do the job...
I foresee Sv 84 will in future will start at Punggol north and connect to Punggol MRT, Punggol west and terminate at upcoming Buangkok Interchange. We have to know that there is significant number of pax between Sengkang and Punggol who travel for malls, schools and other facilities. Hence, a service will be needed to connect these towns directly.

Yes makes sense to have Sv 181 extended and as you rightly mentioned.. Should be like 98/98M... 181/181M.
