** one more to the many examples of PM peak loading on Sv 116... Hougang side totally wasted... Serangoon side do have some unique loading albeit not huge for a service introduced > 18 months back.
** LTA should modify route on HG side to at least ply st 91 with new stop for HDBs there... At least people on this road will get benefited that have no service to HG MRT or Hougang 1.
116 is just a parallel bus service that provides connectivity and convenience to serangoon north/hougang residents. It is not meant to be a cash cow.

"cash cow" is a wrong term here... Let me share with you some marketing funda.
Cash cow - Resources that have been around for very long that can be milked to earn profits from them without adding more resources/promotion to it.
For instance: sv 51 can be called as cash cow because it is there for long. No additional resources are added. Very little additional or no investment is needed. All SBST does is gets the profit from this service.

I called it a Cash Cow because it was the govt who funded these BSEP services. The way you are modifying this bus service is to get more demand without adding resources. Isnt it appropriate to call it a cash cow?

Hmm.... no it is not.... that's not what cash cow is...
On a separate note, yes, modifying the route so that it becomes more usable and gives broader access to people that don't have door-step service... you should understand this better than anyone else as you with your two accounts keep defending 113 :)
Cheers!

Shall go check out the "problematic" service...probably can identify the source :3
sv282 should add at least 1 more SD or upgrade 1 existing slot to DD. The queue in Clementi Int in the evening is definitely not short.

Hi mr BusAnalyser, sbs 111 has sort of lost its relevancy ever since after NEL rationalization to shorten from hougang. The only 2 things that have helped to maintain this service is 1) it picks up crowds from ghim MOH and 2) it goes to orchard road. Take note any bus services which frequented the always crowded orchard road will most likely pick up loading. Cheers.

I would say it lost more relevance after CCL opened. You could still see packed DDs from Suntec/Esplanade to Dhoby Ghaut before CCL days. Now as you correctly pointed out, it takes load because of the Orchard segment, where practically every service gets 50/60+ pax for those few stops.
Another uniqueness of the service is that it connects parts of the city that no other service connects. Like Tanglin/Queensway to Orchard/Commonwealth area. But again it is not DD loading, maybe apart from few AM/PM peak timings.

Hi mr BusAnalyser, yes you are right too. Sbs 111 will just be there as an also-ran and it will not be removed. It is more like a complement to the current MRT network and provides one more alternative! Cheers.

Interesting to see a service that during peak hours gets a massive 70 pax in both directions, fares so measly in off peak.

I wonder why Sv 853 has such a low demand during peak hours and off peak hrs when it's such a good route.

Yea, it's a unique direct connection between the north and east!
I saw Sv 116 on Saturday,
There are almost 40-50 pax in the citaro approaching opp Nex Bus Stop seems like the loading is improving or probably 43,70,315 hasnt called yet.

True that route is unique but loading has been over the lower side...
