I am not sure that is a correct statement. People who want to use MRT, prefer going to Pasir Ris MRT. People who want to travel to Tampines and beyond will take bus.

** Service 21 consistently has 70+ pax in different sectors along its route, depending on timing. For instance, PM peak, you will see 70+ pax from Pasir Ris/Downtown towards Pasir Ris Dr 1. Sometimes the loading from Bedok Reservoir to Eunos can be very high if sv 60 has not called. In the above case there was a sv 60 DD right in front
** Again high loading in the Paya Lebar-Aljunied sector towards Kallang/Jalan Besar
** To me it is very shocking, how few DDs this service has. It is almost 50% DD/SD when you have DD loading on almost every bus of sv 21, who then have to use another option to travel.
What is the bus model for this?

CDGE DD.
Loading on sv 36 taken @ Regent Hotel (Tomlinson Rd) @ 17.25
Tomlinson Rd -- 19 pax (there were already pax on board)
Orchard Rd -- 18 (-10/9), 24 (-5/11), 34 (-2/12), 50 (0/16), 56 (-4/10), 59 (-2/5), 70 (-5/16) Dhoby Ghaut mrt... bus already packed to door at this stop, don't know if more pax would have boarded but no place.
Bras Basah Rd -- 68 (-2/0) bc did not open the doors, 70 (-1/3), 67 (-3/0) bc did not open the doors @ stop opposite swissotel/fairmont, could see many people who wanted to take bus but could not

** Can be clearly seen that sv 36 still has problems with loading even after 2 buses being added. There are few stops where people could not even board
** Also again it can be noticed the main loading is from Orchard to Marine Parade and that's where 36B plies, so should again consider adding DDs to this part of the route
Loading on sv 11 (SBS6447G) at 8.37pm this evening:
(I know this is not a good time to observe loading patterns, but I just happened to be there at that time so I recorded anyway)
Before I boarded the bus at Lor 1 Geylang Ter, there was another bus returning to the terminal with aboug 7 pax onboard. Seems that it took at least 5 pax from Tanjong Rhu to Stadium.

Imagine what the loading earlier would bne like... maybe 2 pax for the full journey... or under 5 pax for sure.
Originally posted by carbikebus:21 now i think use school holiday schedule thats why 50/50 distribution..normal days its 65% DDs
No la... It has 14 DDs, 13 SDs even on normal days + it is not really a school service. It really connects people along Bedok Reservoir to Geylang and workers from Geylang area to Ferrar area.

** The BC was an expert driver. As soon as pax would board, he would take the bus out of the stop and drive fast to the next stop (without feeling terrified)
** High loading between Tanah Merah / Upper Changi Rd, Simei MRT / Tampines CC along Tampines Ave 2
** I think most of the airport cargo staff might have gone in the earlier 3-4 buses as by the time this bus reached Tampines Ave 7, it was already 8.30am+
Sorry for bringing up the post 1 month ago (I was just reading through all the previous posts). I take svc 9 (SBS9557C) every weekday from Upper Changi Rd @ 6.35am to Tampines Ave 7. I agree with your last point that all those going to Loyang and Airport Cargo would take the earlier buses. By the time I reach Tampines Ave 7 it's usually 7.05am, and upper decker is full and lower decker packed to the door. Many of them board at Simei MRT and Tampines East CC.

Maybe 53A can utilise DDs and give 53 a lil more run time? Seen bunchings on 53 very often now.

If 27A and 36B have not got DDs, what in the world makes you think 53A will get!?

115 needs re-routing - route extension.
If 115 is not re-routed, then i dont think adding a split shift bus to it would be good. The most no.of pax i have seen on this svc is 15-20pax if 113 hasnt called at the stop yet. Right now 115 is doing fine, since it has a schedule at every bus stop ppl can check b4 waiting at the bus stop

should have 36B using DDs. last time the old sv 16 and 16E/ 390 was doing fine but then become sv 36 and then via Marine Parade hence loadings increase significantly.
If you observe loading of Sv 36 I have posted, people cannot board bus at certain stops due to heavy peak hour loading. This is even after fleet add by SBST and BSEP. Guess what they will do now - add 1 bus more. Why not just have DDs on 36 B. Does the job!

1. You need to note that it is difficult to estimate number of pax by observing from outside, especially for DD buses as for long distance, most people sit on the upper deck
2. The route being long, you have different sectors where loading can go 70+ pax and observing at Tampines mall AM might not be best, because lot of people alight at Tampines MRT, and load picks up again along Bedok Reservoir Rd
3. sv 21 has many unique sectors. sv 22 is the one that has many services in parallel. For sv 21, for people from Bedok Reservoir Rd for instance, have only 21 to Geylang/Paya Lebar. Same goes from Pasir Ris ave 1 to Bedok Reservoir Rd, it is the only service that connects. Hence, people have to either miss a bus or cram into the bus - not ideal for such a long route.
