Loading on sv 980 from Sembawang Interchange at 07.40 am. Bus type: MAN
Sembawang Interchange -- 09
Canberra Rd -- 12 (0/3), 14 (-1/3)
Admiralty Dr -- 12 (-10/8)* it just occured to me when i took the bus that 980 is the only service connecting this part of Admiralty Dr to MRT. Hence, the loop around Sembawang.
Sembawang Dr -- 17 (-3/8), 21 (-5/9), 29 (0/8)
Sembawang Ave -- 34 (-1/6)
Sembawang Rd -- 38 (-2/6), 43 (-4/9), 47 (-1/5), 53 (-6/12), 60 (-7/14), 65 (-6/11), 66 (-2/3)* Khatib camp - I alighted here as I had to go to Yishun. Got 171 from opposite direction that had 35-40 pax on board.
* Loading quite high and I believe will go on increasing until AMK Ave 1 junction (but MAN was already full when I alighted). Good thing is 167 is in parallel until Novena.
* In future, can experiment DDs on 980 or 167 as many are long distance travelers (of course service will get affected when TSL starts.. but that is only in 2021. until then you can expect the load to increase given the number of condos coming up along Sembawang rd)
Weekdays 980 still bearable with SDs except need two bsep especially normal shift.
Wldep 6 A/P 2 S Amdep 6 A/P 2 S
167 Amdep need a bsep normal shift all days and its better if Wldep transfer another normal shift to Amdep
Wldep 12 A/P 4 S Amdep 3 A/P 2 S
yesterday afternoon at Sembawang i noticed sv859A & 859B buses were running almost empty. how about other times?

Loading on sv 972 @ 07.40am reaching Scotts road around 08.20am ADL
Bukit Panjang Rd -- 05
Bukit Panjang Ring Rd -- 17 (0/12), 33 (0/16)* if MAN already ppl have to start standing
Jelapang Rd -- 39 (-2/8), 50 (-3/14)
Segar Rd -- 74 (-1/25)* many BTO/condo flats upcoming.. most seem ready for living
Fajar Rd -- 87 (-4/17)* there should be one more stop b/w Fajar and BPJ Ring road.. huge BTO complex coming up here as well
BPJ Ring Rd -- 87 (-5/5)
Bukit Panjang Rd -- 83 (-11/7)* first stop where quite few ppl alighted.. guess to x-over to other services. stop before PIE blk 270 was almost empty with only 7-8 ppl
Whitley Road -- 75 (-8/0)
Stevens Rd -- 76 (-1/2), 75 (-2/1), 78 (0/3), 76 (-2/0)
Scotts Rd -- 62 (-17/3) * I alighted here...
# Was impressed with the driver... was turning bus very well and overtaking quite efficiently on PIE
# I think there are at least 4 DDs on 972 today
# Definitely need to increase number of DDs looking at the loading. Such a long distance, make ppl stand all the way, not fair
# Ideal fleet: 14 buses (8 DDs, 6 SDs)
# With huge number of flats coming up along Fajar/Segar/Senja.. can only expect loading to increase in coming months
# Need another trunk service for BPJ Ring road, doing Senja... not necessarily to CBD but can be JE --> Sembawang service via BPJ Ring.

Boon Lay Interchange
* 181 bus gets packed just on first two stops on ave 3 even before touching ave 5.
* 243G bus gets packed in the last 3 stops before interchange. The KUB was completely packed, and there would not be place for any more people. Hence, I guess DDs have increased on 243G to make sure people can get a place to enter. Also noted some pax boarded on st 81 and got down at Boon Lay. I would have thought 243W would be faster and cheaper than 243G to get to interchange. Though this number is small, I think these people must be lazy to cross the street. Lol.

It seriously needs a route extension. Uncommon to even see many standees, don't mention about being full to the door.
859A/B Am peak saw at least 20-30 odd ppl taking
how come there are quite a no. of 62A DD buses plying from punggol in the evening peak? the buses look quite empty. They should instead ply from geylang twd punggol as the evening peak is mainly this direction? i ever waited up to 30min from lor ah soo twd punggol during evening peak and then a single-deck came instead.

My sentiments exactly! And 62A should be from Geylang towards Punggol and not Punggol to Geylang...

I haven't really understood the purpose for 62A? Is it that these buses terminate at Geylang and then go off service to HGDEP rather than doing the full loop to Punggol and come back to HGDEP. This is the only rationale I can assimilate.

Not really. I still see the some of the buses doing 62A during the evening doing 62 after 9pm

Very rare spot on sv 116's. The most i have seen is 30+ pax. But if 165 comes first, the pax count taking 116 would be reduced to 10

Hi mr array88, I also saw this scenario before a few times. 40+ people boarding sbs 116. Cheers!

Very rare.. something like once in 20 times...
116 yesterday saw around 20-30 pax during morning
Originally posted by carbikebus:116 yesterday saw around 20-30 pax during morning
Typical loading pattern of 116
15-20 pax between NEX and AMK Ave 3
15-30 pax bet
ween AMK Ave 3 and HG 1
15-20 pax between HG 1 and HG MRT
* There could be some timings where sv 116 calls before sv 72 and can get 40+ pax towards HG Int, but don't forget this is not true reflection of 116's merit coz there will be a DD 72 right behind that could have accommodated these pax.
* Even today 2 years+ after introduction, AM loading at NEX is 10-12 pax, PM loading at NEX (opp stop ofcourse) is 16-20 pax max.
* AM loading for 116 at HG MRT is 10-12 pax during AM and can be 20-25 pax during PM.
* I rate 116 as a failed bus route in terms of LTA planning.

The way I see it, it serves as a back up service to heavy services like 72,165 and 315. Of course, improvement to those services have made this initial improvement redundent. However, without 116, those 15-30 pax may have to squeeze in and add 15-30 pax on the other services. At least the journey for those pax have a higher chance of a comfortable journey to their destination. It also helps with the frequency of buses going to central areas in that section of town. Same for PPSS and svc 18.
Though I do agree that they can make the route more viable, if they mess up the frequency, then it lost its original meaning, to boost the frequency of buses.
LTA main purpose to introduce a back up service like 116,Sooner or later they will get the catchment once new estates and residents come in..Purpose of BSEP also meant to support the 6.9m project and of course the Foreign workers..So dont be fooled by it,Once 6.9m is up we will return to the era where overloading and f up frequencies svc appear

Hi mr ButIAmAToilet, actually each and every has his opinions. There is no right and wrong. One man's meat may be another man's poison. There will always be a camp who is pro-116 and one camp who is against-116. As long as they benefit current passengers who take it, it should be viewed as beneficial. Of course the route can be further improved like some other services. Once done, the level of comfortability vs other factors will come into play. Cheers.
