IMO, sv 102 does NOT need any DDs YET. LTA should have waited for the loading to pick up before the DDs were kicked in. Opposite side saw 1 DD and 1 Citaro both empty (maybe 8-10 pax)
While my bus was waiting at the Sengkang East Rd junction signal, DD on 119 came and stood right next to take right turn. I had already walked down to lower deck as I wanted to alight, so not sure about upper deck, but lower deck had only 06 pax.
I walked back to Sengkang East Rd and saw 83 coming, so took it. Time: 19.04
Sengkang East Rd -- 23 (17 already on board, 06 boarded bus), 15 (-9/1)

peak loading = 25 pax
bus in front = 08 mins, bus behind = 11 mins
Loading so poor at PM peak (??) Is it because Compass Point has closed down?

peak loading = 46 pax
Bus definitely serves a huge purpose to connect Waterway HDB to Punggol MRT. The extension part bus was almost empty, but did get 12 pax on way back from Punggol Point, and guess transfer pax from sv 50/85.
Just for those who are interested, I took sv 85 from here back to MRT... bus had less than 20 pax when I boarded and had around the same when I alighted at MRT... guess what it was a DD
I feel the Sengkang MP is very strong or has close relations with SBS Transit.
Just see how many resources he has wasted.
Put 5 DDs on sv 85 when SDs can do the job.
Put 2 DDs on sv 119 when SDs can do the job
Put 4 DDs on sv 102 when right now DDs are definitely not required (maybe in future).
Somehow he is bribing SBS transit to listen to his demands even though they do not make sense at this point.
I think Service 171 needs to get DDs from 190. The demand is bursting high

very few peop take 229 from bdk mrt to bdk sth rd. i see svc 12 dd got many peop from tnm to bdk sth rd. peop prefer go tnm to take bus than 229 from bdk?
Did you take note of loadings on 38? My hypothesis is that people may prefer 38 as a more direct service from Bedok to Bedok South... But yeah it's possible that they prefer to go to Tanah Merah and transfer to 12/38 (I have seen huge crowds there before).

no load go to bdk res rd loop point. most go hdb bef bdk nth rd. route same like 66 sia.
I believe 228's duplication with 66 is deliberate to supplement 66 which has no DDs (except on weekends) and sometimes has not-so-good frequency. Also 228 provides connection from the looping point to facilities at Bedok North Ave 3, although its loading may not be so great.

Peak loading = 61 pax
Bus in front = 10 mins, Bus behind = 08 mins. Seems like 101 has an approx 8-10 min frequency.
Personally feel the DDs maybe more handy in AM from Buangkok Link to HG MRT. But still much better load than many other services observed these days.
Interesting to see so many pax taking 101 from Serangoon all the way beyond Hougang... Lazy to walk through the super long transfer linkway between CCL and NEL?

Before I start with the loading. I walked back from HG Polyclinic to Interchange. I took the rightmost footpath that takes you to interchange via berth of sv 324 and sv 116.
Few services observed at HCI
18.24 - 324 - 11 pax
18.26 - 116 - 23 pax
18.27 - 102 - saw it pass by, no standees, maybe 20 pax, KUB
18.33 - 324 - 12 pax
I left at 18.34 to take 102 which is at other side of interchange. While leaving, 116 queue had 7 pax standing, and next bus was at 18.39
18.36 - 161 - 18 pax (DD ofcourse)
18.37 - 89 - 21 pax (DD)
18.39 - 102 - 18 pax (DD CDGE)
Loading on 324 wasn't impressive, rather not on any service that I saw leaving HCI though arguably 89, 161 have other loading high points unlike 116, 324 where HCI should give peak loading at that time for the bus.
The timing was a bit early IMO... Last time when I went to Hougang, 116 would have at lease >40 pax loading at 8pm and 324 would have >25. Guess the peak loadings would come between 7pm and 7.30pm.
Also take note that many pax waiting for these services would not join the queue but rather sit at somewhere nearby, until the bus comes.

I am not disputing that there maybe some buses with <30 pax loading.Just stating real time count on the buses, whether in queue or sitting. IMO 6.20-6.40pm is also quite in the thick of PM peak. And I usually expect between 6-7.30pm buses should have good loading, if not at these timings, then when!?! Just a 30 minute window for PM peak - not sure I agree.

It only took 15-20 mins between NEX and Hougang. If someone had to transfer, would still need 5 min transfer time + 6 min train ride + walk to 101 bus stop. Overall, I think people might have done their calculation, and seen that it is worth taking bus at NEX instead. Assured seat/boarding especially considering that majority fleet is SD with only 2 DDs.
This morning around 6plus. I was on 99 home via joo koon. Saw a young guy at the bus stop outside juying pri. He was busy checking if the upper deck bus I was on had any people and taking notes. Is it one of your guys here? :)
Let's continue the discussion on 258 loading here.
Originally posted by jurongresident:You sure it is very low? At minimum, it at least has around three passengers from Jurong West Street 81, 75 and 64.
Actually, after taking bus service 258 for around ten times now, I understand why it is categorised as a Jurong-Industrial Bus Service. As mentioned, it could be that they have data from long ago suggesting that a lot of people take bus from Jurong West (Pioneer and Gek Poh) to the industrial areas, that's why they created this bus service 258 and categorise it as a Jurong-Industrial bus service.
The primary objectives of bus service 258 are probably to connect the residential area with the industrial area, and to complement bus services 181 and 243G during peak hours. The bus connection to Pioneer MRT Station is probably the secondary objective.
Well, I feel that bus service 258 has the same kind of loading pattern as a typical JIS. Like the other JISes, loading is (very) high during weekday peak hours and low during other hours. I would not say it is very low, because at least it can fetch around three people during other hours, at you-know-where (street 81, 75 and 64).
I have been on at least one JIS before. It is 251. That time I went to Shipyard area to take picture. 251 also during other hours have only around three people on the bus. I think sometimes there are even no passenger, during other hours. The only time when it has high loading, it has very high loading, and it is during weekday peak hours. I think likewise for 252, 254, 255 and 257.
If want to criticise bus service 258, we should criticise the frequency. It is a JIS, yet the frequency during peak hours is not like the other JISes. During peak hours the frequency is around ten minutes. 有没有错? :(
There is a difference between 258 and other JIS. Hence its frequency is reasonable if it's just for point-to-point connection from Jurong West towards Joo Koon. However, I do agree that an improved frequency would encourage more people to take 258 to Pioneer MRT.
Originally posted by BusAnalayzer:If 3 people is not low, then what is low loading?
Apparently there are services with effectively 0 pax during off-peak. Service 200 is an example. Lol....
Approximate partial loading on sv NR8 (TIB1033G), from Eu Tong Sen St (Clarke Quay Stn)
Saturday 28 Nov 2015, ~0017hrs
Apparently I missed the last NEL train, so I got onto this one. Many night services passed by prior to this one, though none were HC, and I missed a 3N about 6 mins earlier. Also passing along were some 12, 80, 147, 166 and 197.
Pardon me for being too tired / disoriented during the first half of the journey. Also, the bus was quite rickety and kept on bouncing, it felt terrible.
I was in Boon Lay area today and observed sv 258 @ 11.20am having around 20 pax alight at Pioneer MRT. No pax boarded at Pioneer MRT towards Joo Koon, and the bus seemed absolutely empty.
The next bus was after 17 mins.
sv 179 had healthy loading at Pioneer MRT though there was a DD every 05-07 mins. Saw two DDs each had 27 and 42 people board at Pioneer MRT.
sv 241 also came at an interval of 07-08 mins. The two buses I spotted in the time frame had 12 and 14 people board at Pioneer MRT.
I rarely do weekend loading so not sure what really is the peak for weekend.

It has been one week since bus service 258 was launched. I feel that the loading pattern on bus service 258 is no different than the loading pattern on other Jurong-Industrial bus services.
