It mainly fetches people from Bt Merah / Chinatown to Little India area, but once it passes Little India, the loading drops a lot...
- Not all passengers are foreign workers, though, so 147 does help for those working at Hill St / Selegie areas
I think important to note the timings of the bus in front as well through iris or other mobile app. For long routes, suddenly you might see loading drop and that could be because the gap with bus in front has reduced.
So there could be a 147 right in front with 02-03 min lead time. 147 peak frequency today is at 06-08 mins originating from Clementi during PM peak - so this easily can lead to bunching.
I noted your loading bet Jalan Bukit Merah to Outram is quite poor or rather not typical 147. My guess here again is that there is 147 few minutes ahead or 197 right in front, otherwise 147 does get 60-80 pax easily in this sector during that time.
Loading again picks up at Serangoon MRT where those heading to HG Ave 8 take it from Upp Serangoon Rd stop and you have bus got 60-80 pax easily (again given that it doesn't bunch up).

If i remember correctly, Svc 147 likes to bunch around also along the Little India area... and like what you mention, the stretch of Upp Serangoon Rd (S'goon MRT) to Serangoon Central, Yio Chu Kang Rd, Hougang Ave 8 there are many passengers boarding the bus... I still wish that the Hougang South Interchange was not closed and then the feeders (Like Svc 322, Svc 328) will ease the loading...
i take sv 20 at 4.55pm from my residence. got new dd.

Hi Mr. SBS 9256 X,
But I thought there is service 112 that links the commuters from Kovan MRT to Hougang Avenue 8 actually? I would actually attribute the high loading from S'goon to Hougang Ave 8 area to the lack of options for residents in the first place..which was there before Services 322/328 were withdrawn..haha. Plus S'goon is like more centralized + more amenities than Kovan MRT I guess. :)

It is also CCL that contributes to the loading. If I am living along HG Ave 8, I rather take 147 to Serangoon to transfer than take 112/165 to Kovan/HG MRT.
Also if I have to take NEL, I can decide on which comes first - 112 or 147. More often that not 147 will come first due to frequency. On way back home, if I need to get some errands done, I alight at NEX and take 147 than alight at Kovan and wait for 112.

Kovan area is more for food. The shopping centre there does not provide a wide range of shopping options compared to Nex Shopping Centre.
Loading on 170 from Little India to NJC on Christmas day evening
(960 bendy and 170 reached Little India together with 960 in front At least 40-50 pax went to board 960 but still a lot of people deliberately chose 170 as well. There was another 67 rigid in front, 1 or 2 mins earlier; another 66 DD behind, which later overtook 170)
Bt Timah Rd - [-1+27] 48 (Little India MRT, 19:07), [-1] 47, [-2] 45, [-1+1] 45, 45 (Newton MRT, 19:14), [-1] 44, 44, 44, [-2+1] 43 (Stevens MRT, 19:17), 43, 43, [+2] 45 (Botanic Gardens MRT, 19:21), 45, [-5] 40, 40 (Tan Kah Kee MRT, 19:24), [-2] 38, [-3+1] 36
- Not sure where the pax are going to. A lot of Indians onboard but still less than a half. Apparently they cannot be heading towards the part that duplicates 960 (if that's the case they would have taken 960 instead) or 67 (the 67 rigid in front was not that packed).
Any observations on 170A today?
All, I was on sbs 117 from sembawang back to Punggol. Observed super high loading on single deck Sbs 117 at yishun ave 2 opposite yishun sapphire. Only 2 bus services, 117 and 169 along this stretch of road. More than 20 people boarded SBS 117 at this stop. Timing around 4.46pm. Almost 25-28 people alighted at the bus stop next to yishun mrt. Think most are going to northpoint shopping mall. This sbs 117 seems to be a good connection from yishun sapphire to yishun mrt. Super direct 5 min job! Cheers. Thanks.
979 SD SMB3139A
BPP: Half full, fully seated
Junction 10: Almost full to the door
CCK Dr: A few alight
CCK St 52: A few alight
Yew Tee MRT: Half of the bus alighted while alot of people boarded it.
983 DD (SMB3580H)
CCK Int: 6 pax including myself
CCK Ave 4: Didnt stop
CCK Ave 5: 2 alighted
CCK Ave 6: 2 Alighted 4 boarded
CCK Ave 1: Didnt stop
CCK Ave 7: Didnt Stop
CCK Grove: Didnt stop
CCK Way: Didnt stop
CCK Rd: 1 boarded
DTL: 5 alighted 10 boarded
BPP: 0 alighted 7 boarded
I alighted at Yew Tee for 979 n BPP for 983
Any comments?
This morning a lot of pax were taking 983 from CCK to BPJ. At least 30 pax alighted at Bukit Panjang at 11.20am.
Many people were complaining 983's bus stop at Bukit Panjang LRT is too far from MRT. Some even say it's "not suitable".
I wonder why 920/922/979/983 cannot call at bus stop outside Bukit Panjang MRT (920/922/979 for boarding, 983 for both boarding and alighting). Anyway the buses will pass by this bus stop when coming out from BPJ Temp Bus Park. Currently the first stop outside LRT is really quite far away.

I didn't take note of 170A's loading although I saw it multiple times. In fact I saw more 170A (and Citaros returning to Queen St) than 170. But don't think they had much loading.
Guess 170A serves as a bridging service from various bus stops along Bukit Timah / Upp Bt Timah to MRT stations. We just need to wait and see.

It's full Citaro fleet for 170A. Boarded SBS6136D just now from Fu Lu Shou to Opp. Kranji Station, only took me 45 mins. It's even faster than my usual 960 ride, and it overtook 2 front KUBs which is about 10-15 mins gap each depending on the departue at Queens. Maybe can call it Express 170e.
There's less than 10 pax from Queens to Wlands Rd, less than 15 pax from Wlands Rd to Kranji Station and skips a lot of stops.
They will do 170A [Queen St >> Wlands Ctr Rd], then changed to 170 [Wlands Ctr Rd >> Queens St].

Lol... If 170A is faster tan 960, can forsee foreign workers at Little India switching to 170A until it becomes full house.

But that's because Sv169 isn't there yet. Otherwise, it won't be getting that type of loading.
Board Sv103 from Serangoon to Yishun. Along the way(some intersection points with 117), didn't really see much 117 buses until Yishun Av1 & Yishun MRT. So far a total of 2 buses spotted.
Tried taking 3502A 117 from Yishun to Sembawang. Quite empty, but got quite a few ppl board from Yishun. Same scenerio, these passengers can take 169 but 117 arrive first. Upon reaching Sembawang, back bus 3516K is alr catching up.

Hi mr TIB429E, I understand. This clearly shows 1 thing. It is right to introduce sbs 117 along yishun ave 2 straight to Canberra to sembawang. Cannot just depend on Smrt 169 alone. If somehow smrt 169 is facing some jams further up, then what happens? Lucky there is sbs 117 another alternative for this group of people. Cheers. Thanks.

For WEEKENDS, I can say 117 can somewhat help out the crowd.
But WEEKDAYS, maybe hard to say. Perhaps just reduce the high loading for 169, but again, around 4:46pm, 169 should be running regularly.
Yeap, lucky got 117, but still, pretty much quiet for 117. No DD demand at all.

Hi mr TIB429E, too early to judge. Give it 3-6 months at least. Sbs 117 is there for the long haul. It is more for the future, judging by the routes it goes past. Expect much higher demand once Canberra mrt is up in future. Expect higher demand once thousands of units (several blocks of HDB flats) along yishun ave 1 are up and occupied. Expect seletar aerospace park to drive up demand in yr 2016-2018. Expect super high demand at Punggol way serving so many unoccupied new HDB flats there. Expect spillover effect from many other blocks of flats at Sumang link, sumang walk, Punggol field and Punggol central in 2016-2017. Cheers. Thanks.
I think the peak loading is mainly at SAP not Yishun or SBW or Punggol though. Yishun itself it duplicate many service, SBW also got some duplication. SAP only 103 though. Unless Punggol got new developments then 117 load will remain as it is.

So u trying to say presently DD is not needed but only needed in like 2016/2017? Coz like waste fuel leh deploy DD on 117 when they can deploy it 6-12 months later when the demand is up

Hi mr TIB585L, yes from what I observe. Cheers. Thanks.
