Thank you!
What time do you usually do loading analysis (for AM & PM)? I tried counting peak hour loading for a few times but seems that I cannot get the timings right...
I will be going to Bukit Panjang / CCK soon to catch 975 DDs (crossover from 972) so can do 979/983 afterwards. After DTL2 opens it's quite convenient for me to go to BPJ also.
(By the way anyone knows the timing of 975 DDs?)

Different areas have peak loading at different times.
BPJ/CCK area it would be from 7-8.15am. Evening high peak is from 6pm to 7.30pm but if you observe from 530pm-6pm and 7.30-7.45pm also you should get pretty decent loads in BPJ/CCK area for feeders/short trunks. Before and after that loading drops sharply.
I think 975 downroute with DDs is bet 7-730am post which it does 972.
Pretty sure that SMRT 972 will get fleet reduction or downgrade after the DTL2 opened. Sv 979 will get the DDs from Sv 972 for sure.

972 is operating 28 buses with 1 A22 as back up.
I feel fleet may stabilize around 27 DDs even after DTL2, as if you see major loading for 972 comes from Senja/Segar/Fajar...
Why would anyone in their right mind do LRT/920/922 --> DTL 2 --> NSL to get to Scotts/Orchard when they can simply do 972. More economical, less hassle, faster.
The services that have to be modified is sv 67. It won't need as many buses in the DTL2 sector, and smart would be to split it into two services so that the Little India - Tampines section can still have high capacity buses.
Look at the number of rigids on 983 as well. They for sure will have to upgrade 983 to full DD fleet sooner or later.
I have been observing 47 loading this week. Buses heading from CBP out usually have a few people on board (less than half capacity), but most dropped off by Tanah Merah. The Tanah Merah-MP sector usually poor loading.
However, on the way back, the trips that leave MP in the afternoon (around 3pm) were fairly full of students, mostly from Victoria School. Did not notice VJC or KC students boarding, but most bus stops have the small 47 poster. I suspect VS students are somehow more aware of 47.
Most of the VS students alighted around Tanah Merah or later.
By the way, when is Tao Nan reopening the MP campus? I suspect they may contribute to the loading when school reopens.

Victoria School should still be having holidays... So the students could be having CCA? Let's wait for mid January when sec schools and JCs both start school.

Heh. Trust me, I know Victorians and how well they love visiting the school in the holidays. If you go down to the campus on holiday weekdays looking for Victorians, how shall I put it? ... “no need to camp”. Hehe.
Anyway, I realised my analysis forgot to count St Pat's. So along the route, we have Tao Nan (future), KC (or is it called something else nowadays), St Pat's, VS and VJC... Mid Jan is good time to monitor loading.

6.27 - 6627D - 31p (S)
6.31 - 3005T - 13p (D)
6.37 - 3443L - 64p (D) bus repeats after 48 min and arrives before 8482R.
Average Frequency - 04 mins
# buses operating - 11 (I thought PM peak 410W had 12 buses)
Average loading = 490 / 12 = 41 pax per bus.
* Even if the fleet is full fleet SD, can manage now with such high frequency.
52
5.52 - 3728R - 22p (D)
6.02 - 6693L - 20p (S)
6.11 - 3169D - 10p (D)
6.30 - 3158K - 28p (D) clearly this bus was late by 10 mins.
6.33 - 3095H - 09p (D) already bunched with DD in front at departure.
* Queue of 52 is always empty with 3-4 pax only
* When 52 arrives, some people from 410W queue take 52
* Is there an opportunity to divert 52 to say AMK Interchange instead to connect Sing Ming to AMK or divert via Sing Ming Dr (130 route), Shunfu, Marymount to Bishan to make it more useful in this sector? #justexploring!
6.37pm ride on 3443L on 410W

* Most loading is for st 22 from Bishan Interchange. Loading drops drastically after Sing Ming Ave. Some take 410W at Sing Ming to transfer to other services at Thomson. Some board at Thomson to alight at Shunfu HDB. Loading at Bishan St 21 is almost non-existent even though only service.
* There were 05 people who boarded at Marymount MRT and alighted at st 12, 13.
* I realized for first time that 410W does not stop at st 11.

all feeder same pattern. max peop at int then loading drop. i observe pm peak 291 293 also. if bus got 20 peop at int never get more than 20-25 all route.
410G should have DD service at this time 5-7pm as people from midview city knock off work and bus stop alway full of people. 52 timing delay most of the time due to jam at PIE. morning 52 also have deplay most of the time from bishan interchange.
Svc 118 (Punggol-bound) 30 Dec, 1809
Seen a fully seated DD at Tamp Ave 1/Bedok Reservoir junction
This is taking into account that there is no ITE/TP on board yet.
118's loading will warrent an interest next week onwards, when classes resume.

I feel that 118 urgently needs a peak-period split for students.
Believe it or not, many of these students reside not in Punggol — they reside in places like Sengkang and Hougang. Take a look at how many students do 31 -> 27 vs. 31 -> 34 andyou will know.
I think it is unfair to leave the majority behind with only the option to transfer at TPE stop, with the following reasons:

Expect more Raffles students at St 21 during school terms. But seems that they prefer walking to Marymount / Bishan MRT instead.

I think it is unfair to leave the majority behind with only the option to transfer at TPE stop, with the following reasons:
- This would mean extra waiting time. Especially in the morning, time is gold. Students cannot afford to wait too long.
- It causes inconvenience to students. Having to alight and board again, especially with mass amounts of students, will cause congestion in the stop, also serving no improvement for them.
I suggest a peak period svc 118P, running towards Sengkang and down to Hougang. Will post this in Route Suggestions soon.
Hi mr SMB128B, people are transferring almost everywhere at all parts of the island. No need to pamper the students until such a stage. Anyway they are not Primary school kids already. Since when the majority is left behind??? With sbs 118, it is made faster for sengkang and Hougang people to transfer as well. Cheers. Thanks.

Pamper...
What do you know? I'm not even asking for a new service to Sengkang and Hougang you know. Just a spur of one or two trips. Do you know the time wasted and pressure of transferring? Looking here and there for the bus...

Thanks. No wonder there was one DD missing. Seriously, way too many buses!!

You may be right, Mr BusAnalayzer, still see quite a healthy load on Sv 972 this Saturday towards city.

Loading on 979 (SMB3141S)
Missed the best timing as I was doing some observations at Bukit Panjang...
(Bus that terminated at Bukit Panjang at 7.44am had around 30 pax alighting)
(7:44) Petir Rd - 0
(7:45) Jelebu Rd - [+1] 1
(7:49) Woodlands Rd - 1, [+3] 4
(opposite 979 had 2 standing, opposite 170 KUB had ~10 standing, opposite 170 Citaro had 5~8 empty seats; 3 mins later, opposite 961 had 5 standing)
(7:58) Choa Chu Kang Dr - 4 (opposite 979 had 15~20 standing)
(7:58) Choa Chu Kang North 5 - 4
(8:00) Choa Chu Kang St 52 - [+17] 21, [+2] 23
(8:02) Choa Chu Kang Dr - [-21+2] 4 (Yew Tee MRT)
(8:04) Choa Chu Kang North 7 - [+1] 5
(8:05) Choa Chu Kang Cres - [+5] 10, [-3+8] 15, [+6] 21 (302 in front), [-1+1] 21
(8:07) Choa Chu Kang North 7 - 21
(8:10) Choa Chu Kang Dr - [-12+1] 10 (Yew Tee MRT; 302 in front had ~20 pax alighting; 70-80 pax waiting outside MRT entrance)
(8:14) Choa Chu Kang St 52 - [-1+2] 11 (opposite 979 had 20-30 pax), 11
(8:16) Choa Chu Kang North 5 - [-1+1] 11 (jam, almost bunched with another 979 in front; that bus had no standees)
(8:20) Choa Chu Kang Dr - [+1] 12
I alighted here.
- All 979 buses are rigids unless otherwise stated. Didn't see any HC buses on that day
- 979's loading in CCK Cres largely depends on whether 302 has called or not... But still have dedicated pax towards Bukit Panjang.
(After I alighted, I crossed the road and took 307 to Yew Tee MRT. Of course it was very late but the bus did get 10 pax standing before reaching Yew Tee MRT. Not sure if earlier loading would be high enough to warrant bendies.)
Note: The following was done on 31 Dec 2015 (New Year's Eve).
New year eve loading on 109 SD (SBS8620J)
I happened to be at Serangoon Int and observed long queues for 109, so I decided to board. Bus behind is 15 mins.
(Technically it's not PM peak)
(16:53) Serangoon Int - 70 (2 pax chose not to board)
Serangoon Ave 2 - [-3] 67
(17:00) Boundary Rd - [-16+4] 55, [-1] 54
(17:03) Yio Chu Kang Link - [+1] 55
(17:03) Yio Chu Kang Rd - 55, 55, [+1] 56, [-2+5] 59, [+7] 66
(17:13) Hougang Ave 9 - [-29+3] 40, [-14+2] 28, [-10] 18
(17:17) Hougang Ave 4 - [-3+1] 16, [-2] 14
(17:20) Buangkok Green - [-3+2] 13, 13
(17:22) Sengkang East Rd - 13, [-2] 11, [-1+2] 12, [-1+1] 12, [+2] 14
(17:30) TPE - 14
(17:36) Pasir Ris Dr 12 - [-2+3] 15
(17:37) Pasir Ris Dr 1 - [-1+2] 16, 16, 16, [+1] 17, [-1] 16, 16, [+3] 19 (Pasir Ris MRT, 17:41 - I alighted here)
- Surprising to see so many pax alighting at Boundary Rd
- Most pax alight at Hougang Ave 9, maybe because of CCL they alight at Serangoon and take 109 (instead of 72/116 at Hougang). Or they were shopping at NEX
- Make sense for DDs as they travel quite long to Hougang Ave 9
- Somehow there were pax boarding at Yio Chu Kang Rd... Guess they're going to Hougang 1 mall

PM peak is after 5:30pm, i think they change plans abit. Concession people have 7 hours grace period before adult fares apply (for those concession fare expiring in December 31)
