324 (6570H, 6474C, 6473E)
6.25 - 07 pax
6.35 - 11 pax
6.45 - 29 pax
6.56 - 40 pax
7.06 - 37 pax
7.16 - 34 pax
7.25 - 29 pax
7.36 - 30 pax
* Peak for 324 starts a little later compared to 116/165 (around 15 mins later). Peak loading is stil around 7pm.
* All 102 buses departing with 15-25 pax on board, definitely there was potential of combining the two. At least they should merge the berths for 102/324 as they are at two ends. Waiting time in each queue is 10-11 mins, with merging waiting time can be reduced to 05 mins, unless those who want door-step service.
* Actual loadings reported for everyone to analyze. IMO, for 116 and 324 HCI (starting point) is the peak loading part of the route.
so 324 not so useless as all say. still got 30 peop every bus. but i do agree your point that 324 could extend to jalan kayu. no need 102 and 324 duplicate upp s'goon sector.

Woodlands Train Checkpoint (2004)* sv170 skipped Woodlands Rd (between Woodlands Ave 3 & Woodlands Centre Rd) due to traffic congestion leading to the Causeway as usual.
* Most pax (>20) from Upp Bt Timah Rd/Woodlands Rd alighted at Kranji MRT stop, while only a handful (estimated 6 pax) boarded to Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Was unable to get the exact number of boarding/alighting pax due to the fast pace of boarding/alighting activities and counted 13 pax shortly after the stop.
Seems that people at Bukit Timah / Upp Bukit Timah are not doing bus-DTL-170 even though it may be faster in theory....

It is definitely not useless as Upper Serangoon residents did need another service to Hougang apart from 62. But giving them two instead of one is excessive. 324 number cannot be used for extension as it is feeder, but 102 def could.

@ptbm - In addition to what array asked, it does seem that sv 47 has a unique patronage as I can still see 26 pax taking it to Marine Parade road. So 47 does provide a connection to Marine Parade residents to Bedok South Road and Tanah Merah.
Loading observation of sv 301 and 983 at CCK Interchange
Date: 05/Jan. Time: 5.52pm to 6.38pm
sv 301
5.57 - 3100k - 44p
6.00 - 3087c - 06p
6.07 - 198z - 40p
6.31 - 3103c - 38p
6.32 - 3124s - 54p
* there could be some minor error in rego numbers as I was documenting too many things quickly
* check out that there was 24 minutes difference between 6.07 and 6.31 bus. Guess 3103c got delayed on the way. 3124s came from behind and started honking badly. So 3103c just took 38pax while rest boarded 3124s.
* 301 might soon get fleet add as the frequency is not that good, but there are dedicated people waiting in the queue for ave 2 and keat hong close.
sv 983
5.55 - 3616p - 65p - DD
6.03 - 3614u - 45p - DD
6.10 - 3135k - 41p - SD
6.21 - 3615s - 70p - DD
6.27 - 3062L - 64p - SD
6.35 - 3160L - 65p - SD
6.38 - 3600J - 44p - DD ( I boarded this bus )
* Even after extension to BPJ, frequency is quite consistent. Avg frequency = 07 min
* Overall loading is quite good for each bus departing CCK, more than 301
* 300 still commands higher loading and comes more frequent, every 05 mins, hence people for ave 4 join 300 queue than 983 (realized coz the bus I boarded had very few pax alighting along ave 4. 35 pax alighted at first stop of ave 5)
More on sv 983
CCK Int -- 44
CCK Ave 4 -- 47 (0/3), 48 (-2/3), 40 (-8/0)
CCK Ave 5 -- 06 (-35/1), 3 (-5/2)
CCK Ave 6 -- 4 (0/1)
CCK Ave 1 -- 4 (0/0)
CCK Ave 7 -- express. Stop being constructed. HDB blocks still on its way.
CCK Grove -- 4 (0/0). There should be stop near ITE.
CCK Road -- 4 (0/0), 4 (0/0)
Petir Road -- 13 (-3/12)
Jelebu Road -- 16 (0/3)
Bukit Panjang Rd -- 18 (-1/3) I alighted here.
* Boarding on 983 between CCK and BPJ town has not picked up yet. Major loading still between CCK and CCK Ave 5.
* Loading expected to rise since huge blocks coming up along ave 7/1 and occupancy at Sunshine Gardens (ave 5) seems low. Keat Hong Close some blocks have opened as there was light but occupancy still low.
* A condo is coming up at junction of ave 1/6. Will be the rare condo in HDB haven. LOL.
* There are 4 DDs, 1 Bendy and 3 Rigids for sure on 983. Don't know the 9th bus is rigid or DD.
* Spotted 5904 on 979 with both lower and upper deck seated (must have around 60 pax approx.)
Loading on 190, 700, 960, 972
Just from observation can say, loading has been impacted, on some services more than others
190 - negligible impact (still could see DDs having 70-80 pax)
700 - huge impact (can see buses with <30 pax now)
960 - quite huge impact (saw many buses only with seated loading)
972 - still need to assess, could not make out from few buses observed.

Loading on 151 DD (SBS9471R) on Monday, 4 Jan 2016
Happened to take 151 back home... It is already too late and not in the peak direction, so this is more for casual observations on other bus services along the route.
(18:32) Hougang Ctrl Int - 13
(opposite 151 DD towards Hougang got 30~40 pax)
(18:36) Hougang Ave 5 - [-5] 8
(18:37) Hougang Ave 7 - 8
(At Tampines Rd junction, 72 towards YCK had ~80 pax, two 72 towards Tampines bunched up both with 30~40 pax)
(18:43) Tampines Rd - [+5] 13 (opposite 151 DD had 30~40 pax)
(18:44) Hougang Ave 3 - [-1+2] 14, 14, [-3+2] 13, [-5+3] 11, 11, [-1+1] 11 (opposite side: 87 DD had 10 pax standing, 25 DD had 2 pax standing, 151 SD packed to the door, 45 SD had 60~65 pax, 151 SD had 2 pax standing), 11 (87, 51, 25 DDs on opposite side all fully seated with 0 standing), 11
(18:51) Airport Rd - [+10] 21 (opposite 151 DD had ~30 pax, 93 SD had 10~15 pax standing), [+17] 38 (opposite 151e had 2 pax)
(18:56) MacPherson Rd - [-4+2] 36 (opposite 151 SD had 5-6 standing, 62 DD had 50~60 pax), [-2+4] 34, 34 (135 towards TPY had 50~60 pax, 100 towards Serangoon had 70+ pax), [-7+1] 28 (most who alighted are transfer pax; opposite 64 SD had 5 pax standing), [-3] 25 (opposite 151e had ~20 pax), [-4+4] 25 (154 in front)
(19:05) Jln Toa Payoh - [-5] 20 (most are transfer pax) (26 towards Bedok had 5-10 pax standing, 140 had ~25 pax), [-7] 13 (most pax are residents), [-4+2] 11 (opposite 56 DD had ~30 pax but stopped there for quite long)
(19:13) Whitley Rd - 11, 11, [-6] 5
(19:20) Bt Timah Rd - [-1] 4, 4, [-1] 3 (Botanic Gardens MRT), [-1+1] 3, [+1] 4, 4 (Tan Kah Kee MRT), 4, [-1] 3
(There are actually 6 pax after I alighted... Counted wrongly)
- DDs are for the other direction, most likely for MacPherson Rd, Airport Rd and Hougang Ave 3 workers to Hougang. 151 can have high loading here but seems to depend on 51/87 arrival times
- 25 and 87 are doing very well at Hougang Ave 3 (same as what BusAnalyzer observed the other day). Even 45 has good loading (are fleet upgrades neessary?)
- 151 towards Kent Ridge at this time does help to bring workers at Airport Rd to MacPherson Rd / PIE to transfer to other services. Last time I also observed 151 SD packed to the door at Airport Rd and majority of pax alighted at MacPherson Rd to transfer, probably to 64/65/66 etc.
-> Suggestion: Divert 66 to MacPherson Rd, Airport Rd and Eunos Link, so that workers at Airport Rd and Eunos Link have a direct service to Little India (which seems to be a popular connection). Also reduces duplication with 65 and upcoming DTL3.
- 154 all the way in front starting from PIE, resulting in such poor loading observed on 151
A few random loading observations on Tuesday, 5 Jan 2016
7.09pm: 970 at Sixth Avenue turning into Bt Timah Rd (towards BPJ) had 15-20 pax standing
7.11pm: 77 turning from Holland Rd to Sixth Avenue (towards BB) had ~25 pax
8.20pm: Two 961 almost bunched up at Bt Timah Rd (opp Natl JC) towards Woodlands. Bus in front was packed to the door; bus at the back had less than 5 pax.
(Makes me wonder how 961 survived after DTL2?)
Wait till DTL have frequent breakdown then people start using buses back..
Loading on 201 DD (SBS3457Y) on Thursday, 7 Jan 2016
Bus in front = 9 mins, bus behind = 2 mins (???)
(18:04) Kent Ridge Ter - [+33] 33
(18:10) West Coast Rd - 33, [-2+5] 36, [-1+1] 36, [-3+18] 51 (some are Kent Ridge Sec students), [-18+32] 65
(Most pax were standing at lower deck although upper deck had plenty of space. Lower deck was quite crowded before bus turned into Clementi Ave 2.)
(18:18) Clementi Ave 2 - [-5] 60 (most are secondary school students)
(18:23) Commonwealth Ave West - [-7+7] 60 (96 Citaro departing from Clementi had 5-6 standing), [-46+39] 53 (Clementi MRT, 18:27; took 2 minutes for boarding/alighting), 53
(18:30) Clementi Ave 6 - [-5] 48
(963E DD turning to Clementi Ave 6 with full upper deck and 6-10 pax standing at lower deck)
(18:32) AYE - [-6+2] 44 (of 6 pax alighted, 3 transfer pax and 3 walked towards West Coast Way), [-2] 42, [-1+2] 43
(18:37) Penjuru Rd - [-4] 39, [-7] 32
(18:40) West Coast Rd - [-7+7] 32
(18:42) Teban Gdns Rd - [-12+6] 26 (opposite 79 SD had at least 25 pax alighted, lest with 10~12 pax), [-2+5] 29 (opposite 143 DD had upper deck 50% full, followed by 143M DD with 2~5 pax on upper deck, and then 79 DD with 5-10 pax on upper deck. Couldn't see lower deck), [-1+1] 29
(18:47) Jurong Town Hall Rd - 29
(18:47) West Coast Rd - [-3] 26
(18:48) Pandan Gdns - [-13+3] 16, [+3] 19 (3 pax boarded 143 behind)
(18:52) Jurong Town Hall Rd - [+2] 21 (opposite 79 DD had 3 pax standing at lower deck, ~10 pax on upper deck)
(18:54) AYE - 21, 21, [+1] 22 (opposite 198 SD had at least 7-10 pax alighting, and 5-8 pax standing afterwards)
(18:59) Clementi Ave 6 - [-1+2] 23
(19:01) Commonwealth Ave West - 23, [-15+21] 29 (Clementi MRT, 19:03)
- Loading has picked up between Clementi and Pandan. 60 pax from Kent Ridge side to Clementi and 53 pax towards Pandan side (higher than my previous observations) are actually not bad, although may not really need DDs.
- Of the 53 pax towards Pandan Gardens, 9 alighted at AYE, 18 at Penjuru Rd and West Coast Rd, 4~15 at Teban Gardens, and 5~13 at Pandan. (In reality there should only be less than 7 pax alighting at Pandan Gardens) Seems that for PM peak 201 mainly targets Penjuru / Teban pax.
- Time from Clementi to Teban Gdns Rd is 15 mins (comparable to Jurong East MRT -> Teban Gdns); to Pandan Gdns is 21 mins.
Time from Teban Gdns Rd to Clementi is 21 mins; from Pandan Gdns is 15 mins (comparable to Pandan Gdns -> Jurong East MRT).
- Still, Teban residents prefer to alight at Jurong East and take 79/143, instead of alighting at Clementi and taking 201. There's also more capacity at Jurong East with better frequency - just look at how 143, 143M and 79 DDs came back to back with 2 DDs almost empty...
- Note how 201 functions as a "townlink": 19 pax boarded from West Coast Rd (after Penjuru) and Teban, and I believe some alighted at Pandan Gdns
- Surprising to see 33 pax boarding at Kent Ridge. And most pax waiting at the terminal actually took 201. Of course many seems to be NUS students... Most of them alighted at West Coast Rd before Clementi.
Loading on 154 DD (SBS9489R) on Thursday, 7 Jan 2016
(I missed the first 2 stops after Clementi MRT)
(19:05) Commonwealth Ave West (after Clementi Ave 2) - [-9+3] 57
(19:07) Clementi Rd - [-5+1] 53, [-5] 48, [-7+2] 43, [-7] 36, [+1] 37, [-17+8] 28 (SIM, 19:16), [-4+20] 44 (Ngee Ann), [-7] 37
(19:23) [-8] 29 (King Albert Park MRT), [-1+1] 29, 29, [-2] 27 (Sixth Avenue MRT, 19:26), [-1] 26, [-1] 25 (I alighted here) (opposite 171 had 15~20 pax but usually this is not the peak location for 171)
- So during normal PM peak (or slightly after PM peak), 154 functions as a "feeder" from Clementi MRT to Clementi Rd. (33 pax alighted before SIM, with 9 pax taking 154 for only 2 stops and alighting at Commonwealth Ave West)
- Even after EWL and DTL, some Ngee Ann students still use 154 to the East. Three girls were sitting behind me, one planning to alight at Paya Lebar and one at MacPherson.
(Seems that one of them live in Sengkang West. She comes to school by MRT every morning, but in the afternoon she takes 74-86 or 52-50. Today she was taking 154-70, probably so that she can travel with friends)
- Ngee Ann students are complaining the walk from King Albert Park MRT to Ngee Ann is too far and the buses (74, 151, 154) are crowded
- Feel that not many people are taking bus to DTL stations from bus stops along Bukit Timah. Even at MRT stations the most you can see waiting for buses is 3-4 pax.. Either they're walking directly to MRT, or DTL's demand at Bukit Timah has still not picked up (despite LTA's various publicity measures).
700 can cut 2 busesif the trend going on permanently.
190 can kick 2 SD out also.
972 can maintain 27 buses.
171 main loading is from Yishun-BPJ-Bt Timah only..
971E need to replace 2 SD to DDs,Loading is super high.

- 154 all the way in front starting from PIE, resulting in such poor loading observed on 151
Has 151 got more DDs now? I noticed the other day when I was at HCI observing 116/324, I spotted 3 DDs leave interchange + 1 DD while I was on bus 87. So totally spotted 4 DDs. I thought it maybe 1 day cameo, but from your observation also can already see 3 DDs + there should have been 1 DD that leaves around 6pm from HCI as I observed when it met me onboard 87 at Tampines Rd junction.
Overall loading on DTL2 is still low. Took it this morning. Small train yet quite empty. Frequency around 04 mins.

It will likely remain like that more or less permanently as long as 190/972 maintains their current standard, as folks prefer to take bus since its more direct, more seats, and with less walking.
The only real crowd will come from BPJ area. The Bt Timah Road residents are mostly car owners. The HCJC/NJC students are also mostly ferried in by parents's cars.

Hi mr antidennislance, I took it a few times from 4 to 6 jan. Observed quite low crowds compared to other MRT lines. Mrt trains are also quite small. Agree with what you say. Cheers. Thanks.

Maybe if 190/972 are given cutbacks then maybe we'll see much better use of taxpayers dollars on DTL2 ;) same for 67/700/960 too.
118 loadings are very good. Saw 1x DD towards Punggol at Simei Ave @6:07pm yesterday, full house with full standees. CBP workers really loving the service.

I wouldn't say students along Bukit Timah are fetched by their parents' cars... Sometimes you can see buses packed by students in uniform. (Of course that's before DTL2)

DTL2's frequency keeps changing.... During the free rides period it was running at a steady 3 mins frequency. A few days after free rides ended frequency became 4 mins. But just this morning (7am+) frequency was 2-3 mins in both directions and was quite consistent. Is it because there's a school holiday schedule or something?
Regarding its loading, maybe it's due to DTL's frequency. Guess LTA/SBST realised the mistake of using 3-car trains for DTL and hence bought excess trains, and thus 2 mins frequency to mitigate the expected huge crowds. If DTL was to run at NEL's frequency or even CCL's frequency, we may see trains packed to the door.
(Also take note that DTL's loading seems to be better in the city, between various interchanges, rather than between Bukit Panjang and the city.)
