Finally publicly announced and acknowledged, but already guessed by many.

For bus enthuasists, this is effectively GAME OVER. This is almost similar to the Transperth model.
Bus assets including buses to be owned by government. This government will not want any odd vehicles or parts in their inventory.
Non WAB buses will almost certainly be disposed of by 2020 unless something else crops up.
A few observers were spot on that buses are likely to have a unified livery.
In Perth, Public Transport Authority has secured a contract to buy Volvo buses with Volgren bodywork exclusively for a decade (taking over from Mercedes-Benz). If LTA also decides to take up only one supplier as PTA does, tough luck.
Very good. Overall it will be beneficial in the long run. It will also spell an end to some of the threads here and minimized many unwanted arguments around. Cheers

I don't know about unified livery. And even if I know, I would still say I do not, for obvious reasons.
But would that have surprised you?
I doubt it. LTA's moves have been very clear actually.

Frankly if they wanna argue, they can take anything and argue.
I am just waiting for someone to come here spout vulgarities, another to talk about 113, another one who would say another stupid move by LTA, another demanding variety.
hahahahaha

Hi mr SBS2601D, yes of course. But it will be minimized. Now we know the intentions of tendering for operators for peak hour services. It is just an experimental step to their bigger objectives. Cheers.

The poster itself provides a clear hint.
A unified livery by itself is not surprising, but rather the government's willingness of taking on the public face of public transport is surprising.
Once they take on the unified livery, the government will find it a lot harder to deflect blame at the private operators if anything goes wrong.
In any case, this is an increasing trend in other major cities. Sydney and Melbourne are moving towards a unified livery as well.
Tell you what:
The bus depots which have height restrictions will go through a massive change. SMRT should build a new bus depot at Mandai, the other depots (Kranji and Ang Mo Kio) have their depot leases expired, but they can let SMRT Buses run forever.
Woodlands, since they have ongoing depot lease; should move over to the Mandai instead :)
The SBS Transit depots will largely be broken up into smaller parts, or let everybody change to "Contracts Model". All new depots will be exempted from the rule.
yeah

Between being unable to do anything about the operators, and still getting whacked by public, vs being able to do something, and try to please the public.
I think it makes a lot of sense.
All I can say is that its easier to manage when you have to manage only the public in this model, rather than try to manage the 2 incumbents as well.
I doubt they have been overly cooperative with LTA.

Whatever you just typed obviously means that you failed to comprehend the new system.
But its ok, time will tell and we will know eventually.

Excellent point.
And we will have a lot less of the current silly situations such as having the wrong type of buses on various routes, just because they are divided along company lines.
As we have seen in London, LTA will get to decide what type of buses will run on these routes and those who refuse to comply to specifications can go fly kite.
In the long run this translates to more efficient deployment of resources.
Abellio Tampines: Bedok North Depot, Changi Depot & Loyang Depot
67 and 969 will be transferred to Abellio Tampines.
So fares will increase again soon?
That is always the number one question everytime there are changes.

Wait no longer.
My idea on this is that it will run like HK bus system. But if it's NOT (eg having unified livery) then sorry LTA I am doubting a better future for the bus system in Singapore.

I think there's still a lot of work to do.
Even deciding which services should be included in which parcel would be tough business. Trying to make the transition to the new system will be an even bigger headache.
And what about the 68 million dollar IBMS project? Rush timeline to meet the new contract?
Anyone who wants an easy life shouldn't join LTA.

The question is not whether it will increase, it is whether it will increase at a higher rate. LTA will be the fare collector under this tendering scheme as other cities do.
This year, Singapore is currently increasing at 3.2%. London is increasing at 3.6%. Transperth is increasing at 4.8%.

In the same announcement, LTA has already indicated the number of packages to put out. I think they would have done some homework before putting things out.
Yes IBMS a tight deadline to meet, but I would expect them to get their priorities right. I think it is possible given that Trapeze delivered on another project in less than two years (ACTION, Canberra), with only the real-time passenger information left under testing.
I would also think that LTA may have some existing equipment to work with in the meantime, given that PPSS private operators have the current-generation IDFC installed on their buses too.

I think you will have to consider that the 2 incumbents are also involved in the IBMS project.
It suffices to say that having to manage all parties (consortium included) won't be an easy task.
There are so many differences between both PTOs, yet LTA is shoving this brand new system down their throats.
It won't be easy for sure.
The contract length will be 5 years, with option for 2 more years pending performance. 5 years look just about right, not too long and not too short.
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/lta-to-contract-out/1115356.html
LTA mentioned the entire bus network is being bundled into twelve packages. Currently, SBS Transit (6: page 80) and SMRT (3: page 200) collectively own nine depots. Meanwhile, LTA has announced two new depots at Wenya and Changi South.
So I think the twelve packages will be based on the twelve depots that will be around by the time this bus tendering thingy is completely introduced here, where the depots will be tendered out and whichever company that gets the contracts to operate the depot will run the bus services originating from the depot.
LTA said that 3 packages will be tendered out for a start. I guess this means 3 bus depots will be tendered out.
As I mentioned previously at another thread, 2 depots in Bedok North and Ayer Rajah are on Temporary Occupation License, while 3 depots in Defu, Ang Mo Kio and Kranji will have their leases expire in 2016.
so I guess most likely the depots at Bedok North and Ayer Rajah will be contracted out first. whereas for the third depot that will be contacted out, I guess it will be at Kranji - so that every section of Singapore will have an equal start of bus contracts model.

I would suggest that u go read the press release again. N at the same time go look at the individual capacity of each bus depot before commenting. N did u take into consideration of those dual depot service ? So sv7 will be operated maybe by sbst from bndep n maybe smrt from bbdep??? If not all services will switch to single depot instead???
N maybe the final outcome is that smrt quit the bus business entirely once their assets are transfer out to gov. This is highly possible.
I guess because of this bus contracts model, SBS Transit existence will gradually diminish and eventually, Comfort Delgro will merge @SBSTransit into @ComfortDelgrobus, since after all both belong to Comfort Delgro. #justsaying #opinion
Then the trains also called comfortdelgro?
Wa sekali he turns out to be right 5 years later.
wahahaha
