Svc 5 still can use ORRS to go to PSR from Ayer Rajah quick enough
Should include some short-haul Tampines routes (4,29,37)
Punggol amendment free up some space for Hougang, not a bad move, but unless they shifting almost all routes to Loyang, 85/119 better off stay at Hougang, and 136 better off at AMK (Since 50 is probably full AMK after the full contract roll out)
But 25 services for a 500+ depot? A bit overkill, since each service have an average of 20 buses.
Oh, and including "164" that means there is 2 unannounced service for Punggol/PSR area.
I was a bit suprised since Punggol is under North East,Maybe follow grassroot style Pasir Ris-Punggol?Maybe future Tampines North Loyang can kope also..Hmm Mandai i think should be for Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang svc then..

Hi mr carbikebus, yes a bit strange. But definitely not follow grassroots style because sengkang and parts of Hougang are also under pasir ris-Punggol. The Loyang depot should include tampines and exclude punggol. Sengkang and Punggol should be grouped together. Cheers.
Weird very weird since LTA take over..Bulim also can stretched until Clementi..Duh!

IMO, I think Loyang Depot closer to Punggol than Hougang Depot (slightly). Tampines cannot include all services, but can take in a few which is convinient enough so its end point is not too far. Putting 136 under Loyang is a dumb move though.
Well, I am in favour of freeing as many spots from Hougang Depot as possible for more buses/services.

Hgdep to Punggol is around 7.2km compared to Lydep 11.2km

Hi mr ButIAmAToilet, your facts are wrong. Punggol is nearer to Hougang depot than Loyang depot by distance. By geographical position, tampines is nearer to Loyang depot than punggol and should have provided bulk of its service. Punggol and sengkang should have come under the new seletar depot in future. Quite bad of a decision! Cheers.
I think Punggol to Loyang depot may be a bit faster than to Hougang depot since it's via TPE direct. Anyway according to URA's master plan (https://www.ura.gov.sg/maps/), Hougang depot and the surrounding areas may be redeveloped in future. Kranji depot and Ayer Rajah bus park also gone, although BB, BN, AM, BR, WL and SL still there. May not be accurate though, since the land for Loyang depot is still shown as industrial area "subject to detailed planning".
Just realised the LTA press release says Loyang Depot will be completed in June this year, but the operator will only take over in second half of 2016. So will it be sitting empty until next year, or will SBST use it temporarily, like how SMRT is using Bulim depot now?
If I am not wrong this depot was supposed to be SBS Transit's depot in the first plave but now with GCM I believe it would temporarily be used by SBST as they still have the July 2014 order of buses coming in
Bukit Batok might be gone also for future industrial plans..Might be Mandai taking over..If SBST wins then 160/170 can start from there..On a side note if Hougang is demolish they should built one along Northeast corridor with a bigger than 550 capacity depot..Woodleigh also coming up and i dont think Braddell Bus Park can handle any more interchanges

If no replacement for Ayer Rajah, next nearest is Braddell. There is a very high chance Braddell will run out of space because it needs to take in so many loop service in CBD. After Braddell is Bukit Batok, AMK and Hougang. The trend is that they are trying to shift (reasonably) as many service as possible out of these depots first (Clementi/JE moved to Bulim, Punggol moved to Loyang), as the most problematic depots will be Ayer Rajah and Braddell. There is only so much these two can take in under GCM, and priority is most likely given to Central/South loop services.
Mandai is too far to replace Bukit Batok
Seletar will probably take: Yishun, YCK, Sengkang
Ang Mo Kio SMRT also can close liao,Or at worse SBST Amdep can expand.IMHO SMRT Ang Mo Kio,Ayer Rajah,Bukit Batok can demolish for other plannings and built a depot with at least 400 capacity at Thomson,Commonwealth and Choa Chu Kang for the replacement.

timwise better la. hgdep so crowded. better relieve hgdep with punggol go to loyang. from loyang go down loyang av and take tpe to punggol. so fast. even in off peak. travel time less even distance more.

Hi mr proudtobeme, haha not an issue of crowdiness. You must not have known the super notorious traffic jam well known both at TPE and pasir ris drive 3/Loyang avenue area connecting to Loyang depot. Cheers.
Haha,TPE nowadays anytime can jam just like PIE and CTE..Hgdep still got bit of spacing..87 give to BNDEP also mah

What are the chances of services being caught in a jam on these two roads between 11pm - 5am? (The time where most buses travel to and from depots) By the time the jam started, most of the buses reached and deployed already.

Hi mr ButIAmAToilet, yes you are right. Will not get caught in those timings. Cheers.

Should let all cross-border routes be based at Mandai.
Well, by now, I am sure it is clear that GCM will use new depots, which will eventually replace every bus depot constructed in Singapore before year 2013. Maybe only those that still have ten over years of lease left at around year 2020 will really be taken over by LTA or continue to be operated by the incumbents.
Whereas for the buses, in my opinion, I feel that LTA may want a standardised fleet models in a package. one standard same model of standard buses, one standard same model of double-decker buses, one standard same models of articulated buses (if any).
If so, the second package will obviously use only Wrights and Citaros. Existing Wrights and Citaros may be bought over by LTA, while non-Wrights and non-Citaros may be gradually replaced with Wrights and Citaros (via re-deployments).
Whereas for the first package, maybe also only Wrights and Citaros. Unless there are more existing A22s over at SMRT side - and at SBS side is actually KUB dominating - then it's Wrights and A22s.
Quite likely the models with the majority will be used. Meanwhile, models of the minority may be re-deployed to other routes elsewhere. Eventually, if this happens, we will see a few minority bus models concentrating at only a few packages. Eg. CCK/BP packages use only A22s and Enviros, while KUBs concentrate at only a few parts of Singapore.
Whereas for the special rare bus models, I think they will be deployed on special bus services, such as cross-border services.
Well, just sharing with you all how I think the bus deployment could be in GCM.
Here's my two cents worth.

- In short, possible fleet combinations,
- Wrights + Citaros
- Wrights + A22s
- Wrights + KUBs
- Enviros + A22s

Well if SMRT buy the A95s before 2016,then its different story.SBST also got time to evaluate Volvo single deckers or Scania DDs to convince LTA.
Broker's Take: Bus services bid to weigh on SMRT and ComfortDelGro's existing contracts: CIMB
http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/stocks/brokers-take-bus-services-bid-to-weigh-on-smrt-and-comfortdelgros-existing-contracts-cimb
SMRT Buses is the lowest cost bidder at S$93.7 million, 25% lower than its next competitor. SBS Transit is ranked second lowest bidder. Go-Ahead is the highest cost bidder at S$153.5 million.
As much as i want Go Ahead to win at least 3 Tenders(Bulim/Loyang/Mandai or Central package) i applauded if SMRT win it..But again they really spoilt the market being the lowest bidder below 100m mark..After the win i hope they dont provide crappy svc as not enough drivers etc..

Remember, LTA intends to use the winning bid amount as the basis to operate 80% of the remaining services with the incumbents.
The surprise is that the two incumbents turned out to be more competitive than its foreign counterparts.
