Under the bus contracting model, the government will own all buses. However, LTA has not decided whether to buy all existing buses, or acquire them when they are due for replacement.
One concern is the diverse set of buses.
"If the government wants to instead purchase new buses as they become ready for replacement, in some sense this is going to be a process that is a lot more transparent.
"The reason why it will be more transparent is that all the government will have to do is issue a competitive tender to buy a fleet of new buses, and the vehicle manufacturers will then have to submit their bids. So, that might be more transparent than negotiating with the public bus operators to buy over the existing fleet."
All, anybody knows will our ezylink card be applicable for all types of buses by Yr 2022? Will we still be allowed to go on different types of buses like currently 5 bus services (4 transfers) without any extra payment? Or when other overseas bus companies take over, will we need pay the bus fares separately and our ezylink only applicable on sbs and smrt buses?

The existing bus fare payment works fine, so unless the authorities ve another superior system, it will remain the same.
If it were to change, it should best follow HK's style if flat fare n interchange fares or sector fares on routes...

Actually, I believe when LTA implemented the distance-based fare system in 2010, one of the reasons was to anticipate the switch to contracts model in the public bus services industry, since there is no longer "transfer penalty" and everyone is charged based on distance instead of based on the different "fare stages" set by the different operators. Hence, we should continue to pay bus fares based on distance, when the bus services we take gradually come under the contracts model.
After all, didn't LTA already say that the Government will be the one collecting the revenue, while paying the participating bus companies a fixed amount of money to operate the services?
Meanwhile, when LTA takes over the related infrastructure such as bus interchanges, it would be good if it can create retail spaces to lease and allow advertisements to be pasted on the wall, floor and buses, to collect rental and advertising fees. This could add on to the revenue collected and help LTA turnover the costs (eg. the money it pays to participating bus companies). This could reduce/eliminate the subsidies the Governmnet has on the public bus industry (which means it could collect less tax from us). If it makes profit as a result, it could use the surplus to improve the buses and infrastructure, which would benefit us commuters. One move, Two benefits.

Hi mr wsy1234, bus operators control bus driver. Not LTA. Cheers.
In other news, Kawasaki and CSR Sifang (suppliers for C151A, C151B) were awarded the contract to deliver rolling stock for the Thomson Line and Eastern Region Line.
It is possible for the same supplier to be awarded contracts on multiple occasions if they fulfill the required criteria and offer the best deal.

anyway, I wonder how bus service 66 (Jurong East to Bedok) would be operated.
Not surprising: News probably got leaked out to the media and actually chances are both PTOs may have guessed it as well.
How do you think CNA Talking Point managed to arrange for the 1-hr show IMMEDIATELY after the initial press release?
Of course the media would not actually release the news until the official one from LTA.

I wouldn't say it's leaked. It is typical in the media anywhere in the world to be handed prepared statements by the government in advance with an embargo in place so that journalists have time to work on the story.
After all, it's the nation-building media we are talking about.

Eight bus services at Jurong East Bus Interchange are not in the first package, of which

OT a bit about the Talking point show on CNA, it was actually supposed to be about improvements to bus service, but press release from LTA caused the whole topic to be changed... LAST MINUTE arrangement

Perhaps perhaps.
But there are reasons why I still think its a leak.
As idiotic as it may sound, where is the exact location of BULIM depot?

Does this move mean that SBS Transit and SMRT will go under the Government and ultimately become merged?
