Anyway, it would be good if starting salary can match average salary of taxi drivers. Because already bus driver job less stressful and got more benefits. If bus salary is same as taxi salary, it would really attract locals to drive bus.
Taxi drivers earn around $2,000 a month, after deducting costs, rental and tax. So, I think our bus salary if increase some more can really match taxi driver salary, and encourage more locals to be bus drivers.
By the way, I have nothing against the Foreign Talent. In fact, I appreciate their help for our economy. Without them, our workplace will be short of manpower. But, when comes to driving on our roads, I feel that it is better to have our own people drive the vehicle. Sorry.

Until taxi drivers start jumping over to the bus operators. But transport companies have massive resources for the taxi business as it is one of their most profitable parts of the transport industry.
Refer to this earlier fictional scenario.

someone at the taxi forum ever say before "if everyone be taxi driver, then who be the customer?".
as third-party apps like uber and grab taxi emerge, more and more people are becoming taxi drivers. But the demand for taxi services is only so much... I do not think we actually need so many taxi drivers.
if there are more taxi drivers than customers, actually it's to the disadvantage of the taxi drivers, as each taxi driver would pick up less customer, and as a result they earn less money.
if bus and taxi salary is about the same, then taxi drivers would have a choice on whether to drive taxi or drive bus. Then they can have some income secrurity, and we can also have more local bus drivers; win-win. :)
as for the concern on whether the bus operators are able to sustain the higher salaries, well, I believe when they decide on the salary, they would do some kind of financial analysis.
Tower Transit can pay so high probably because they do not have shareholders to pay. Whereas for SBS Transit, I guess it is because they are making huge profits every year, and they feel that they can afford to pay more, that's why they increase their pay.
Originally posted by SBS TRANSIT:SBS Transit Bus Captains to get higher pay, new and enhanced incentives and benefits
Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) who join SBS Transit as Bus Captains can draw a monthly gross salary of about $3,460, which represents an increase of more than 15%. They will also receive a sign-on bonus of $3,000.
The revised salary package, which is the result of close consultations and negotiations with the National Transport Workers Union (NTWU), is covered under the SBS Transit - NTWU Collective Agreement. It benefits close to 10,000 SBS Transit employees, of which 6,500 are bus captains.
Under the revised salary scheme, new Singaporean and SPR Bus Captains will start at a monthly basic salary of $1,950, which is $175 more than the $1,775 currently.
Their salaries will also be bolstered with the extension of the newly introduced reliability incentive which pays up to $300 a month.
Under the Bus Service Reliability Framework (BSRF), which involves 25 bus services on trial until August 2016, Bus Captains receive an incentive if they achieve the set targets. With bus services coming under the new Bus Contracting Model starting September 2016, the reliability incentive will eventually be extended to all Bus Captains. In addition, the amounts for performance, productivity and safety incentives will also be adjusted upwards.
With overtime, adjustments in salary and incentives and the new reliability incentive, new local hires can earn a gross salary of about $3,460 a month in their first year of employment with SBS Transit. The salary package will come with new and enhanced benefits. These include two weeks of paid paternity leave, free travel on all train and basic bus services, free annual health screening and the roll-out of a new flexible benefits scheme with an annual credit value of $500.
SBS Transit Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gan Juay Kiat, said: "With this new package, we hope to attract more Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents to join us as Bus Captains and strengthen our Singaporean core. With structured training programmes to develop the professionalism and competency of our Bus Captains, we also offer attractive career progression opportunities where they can move up to executive and managerial positions in Operations, Management and Training. In all, we have put together a package that offers an attractive career in the Bus industry."
The line in red confirm that all balance SBST/SMRT service will be converted to BCM as well wef from September... (but most likely they will just based on the current depot control to work on)....
In my opinion, I feel that the bus depots owned by SBS Transit and SMRT may serve as "interim depots" before the new bus depots are ready.
There may be a re-shuffle of bus routes across depots, as routes are grouped into packages. In the process, some routes may change operator.
By the end of this year, we may know how all the bus routes are packaged.
As for the buses, I foresee that the Volvo B9TL Wrights, Mercedes Citaros, MAN A22s, MAN DDs and ADL Enviro500s purchased by SBS Transit and SMRT will eventually be purchased by LTA. By then, the netbook value will be lower, so it's cheaper. :)
Meanwhile, I foresee that the Scania K230UBs and Mercedes OC500LEs will be used until they reached their maximum lifespan, because their lifespan expire around year 2024-2027. By then, all the new depots would be ready. So, it's either an early retirement or just nice de-register when the lifespan is up.
Anyway, it's good that they are implementing the Bus Contracting Model on all bus routes now. Otherwise, by when are they going to implement everything sia?
So, yea... :)
Last email i get from LTA is 12 new depots and of course a couple of existing one will refurbish and retain.

I don't understand why the same bus lobbyists who actively voted and supported for TT green livery previously would then go on to whine and complain about it now when it turns out that it will be applied to all public buses!
I got a feeling neither SBST,SMRT,TT or GA will win the Sungei Seletar package. It would be either French or Korean company. But for Ulu Pandan & Mandai packages my instinct say its SMRT while the remaining until 2022 will be SBST on negotiate contract.

Transdev and Kumho for Singapore? Exciting times lie ahead. Transdev operate bus routes in Fremantle and surrounds and have been doing it for years. Previously they controlled Claremont while still known as Connex.
SMRT for Clementi and Queenstown route groups? I hope they improve upon where SBST left off. The latter has done quite well for the past 33 years. Keep it that way please.

Maybe the balance of J East service,Majority of Clementi,Kent Ridge and Buona Vista too,Who knows after stringent rules set up by LTA SMRT maintenance and operation will improve after losing Bt Batok and Yishun. After the Sungei Seletar package the remaining package will be run by the two incumbents on nego terms until 2022.

Transdev would stand a much better chance if they bid under Transdev Australasia rather than VTRA.
Personally, I feel that the third and fourth contracts are for SBS Transit and SMRT. Just for fun, they may give Sungei Seletar to SBS Transit, and give Ulu Pandan to SMRT. As these two contracts will begin in 2018 and end around 2023-2025, how they manage these contracts would kinda determine their future.

There is no competition if they do like that
The competition is "competitive" indeed...maybe for the $$ only..
Spotted common bunch up of TTS buses more often now(in pairs), plus, the intervals seems to be a little longer and the journey time increases I heard.
As usual, nothing good from LTA
The jam at Jurong East is quite bad. Even at around 10am, there is still a long line of buses queuing to enter the bus interchange. I hope Tower Transit is aware of this and will have buses on standby at Jurong East to prevent service delays.

Brother,60% or more of TT BCs are all fresh with no experience in public bus service.Whatever the company regulations they all follow and adhere.Unlike SBST or SMRT if they are behind schedule they just overtook the front bus and kapo all the passengers until a certain stop where its back to normal.TT BCs front bus already lambat yet the rear one didnt want to overtake fearing BOCC will penalise them..They die2 follow schedule one..

need more of that streetfighter mentality that can only come with experience

Yeap
when TT havent start, people were like eager for it to start. after it start svc, complains here and there due to snail service standard. kpkb already

Actually its good when complains like this goes to LTA,They can slightly ask the operators to reduce the runtime and possibly tune the bus pick up to a certain satisfactory level. If you compare SMRT SMB Citaros and SG Citaros acceleration its a world apart..Imagine with full loadings.
Hopefully commuters also complain for the snail pace when GA start operation too.
Isn't it LTA plan the timetable? If yes I think the complains should be redirected from TT to LTA lol.

I dont think the runtime by LTA,Else why GA people go and copy from SBST and adjust the timings instead?
