Yes coz the bus I saw at 6.15pm towards WRI was full... lot of standees on lower deck.
maybe SMRT should make people go up by giving discount like 20 cent of the bus fare during peck hour. install bus fare machine at the stairway on the upper deck for the discount fare and no need to tap out at the exit door only tap out at the upper deck fare machine when going out of the DD bus.
or re design the bus in such a way people go to upper deck when coming in to the bus if full then go down to lower deck. this way even it is full on the upper deck the people force to go down to lower deck to sit or stand there as the back door is down stair and the front door is blocked by the stairway in between. wheelchair people just open the back door as per normal for them to get in.

That just goes to show that 169 is better served with bendies along that stretch at that timing.
Please don't make it sound like everyone taking public transport is so money minded that monetary incentives are the only way to promote people to move up.

169 does have many pax go up. Go check out at AMK Interchange at PM.. you will see 45-55 pax board the bus and around 30 pax will go to the upper deck.. and lower deck will have lesser than upper deck.
It is always a feeling that upper deck is more empty coz we cannot see how occupied it is from outside. We can only determine with few heads we see on one side window.
Today boarded SMB3536L 169, bunched with TIB516L from Upp. Thomson Rd to WRI... Both buses full house...
Well, during the introduction of Wrights on 60, the BC also need to remind pax that there's plenty of seats on the upper deck...

Yes... but if u see now.. sv 60 upper deck is always full.. people go up.. see no more seat available and come down..
It will take some time for ppl in SMRT region to get used to DDs as well... since they have been missing in those areas for decades.

Idk what were you trying to imply, but somehow I think what I bolded from your post is a sweeping statement.
If you stand on the pavement beside the lane the bus is travelling on, then yeah, you can't see how occupied it is.
But you do know too that if you stand from a certain distance away (maybe across different lanes, or opposite side of the road), you can gauge accurately how many people are on the upper deck right?
No offence. Just think that that statement is an over-generalisation. Not all of us are that vertically-challenged to have that much of a 'parallax error'.
And for Sv 169, it needs a mix of rigids, Bendies & Enviros. If you're observing from the Int, then obviously people would feel compelled to move to the upper decks (who doesn't want the seats when they're available right?)
But if you're observing someway halfway down the route during Peak for Sv 169, you'll notice that not too many people would be keen to move up (for DDs) or move all the way in (for Bendies) because they're only travelling for a few stops before switching bus svcs somewhere down the road.
Just stating what I observed from taking Sv 169 frequently.

Sv 169's pax loading patterns is very erratic. Depends alot on the bunching problem & traffic condiitons. It's like, the timetable the BCs have for arrival timings just don't apply to them. (I'm not implying the BCs don't follow the timings, just that somehow the arrival timings at the stops seem to imply this).
I can have 3 buses coming together within 1 min apart, and all are full. Or 3 of those same buses coming together, but all are only 1/4 full during Peak.

I am surprised how quickly people are upto comment on 169 when the perm DDs just started this month. Give people some time to even get used to them. In Yishun, Sembawang, Woodlands are people are not used to taking DDs. So they also need to get used to the concept of moving to upper deck, which not all do. When SBST feeders can have full upper deck, why can 169 not!?
We just have to give a little more time.

okay... I am not that good at gauging when i am on the road how full the upper deck is.. I cannot claim to say that when a bus passes, I can estimate how many ppl are there on upper deck. It is also an illusion that lower deck has more ppl... but u also have to see lower deck has fewer seats.. upper deck has 50+ seats... anyway... its not important.
The problem with these ADL DD air con is blowing up to the rooftop instead of blowing down to the seat. Anyone notice that?

It sounds as if the ADL DDs are using underfloor aircon....

Sounds like it, indeed!
Today I spot 3531A on 169 again. Is SMB3531A replacing SMB3525T today or?

The back of the bus will be empty this way, wasting a lot of space.
Wahlao eh,No DDs complain,Got DDs also complain..very hard to please Singaporeans really...Thats why foreigners always take advantage of us
