I'm not sure whether you will say you are a bus enthusiast, but judging by your presence here, I'm sure you are. But nonetheless, if you or any other persons want to see yourself as an unrelated self styled transport/urban planning analyst, then at least get down from whatever ivory tower you are in and recognise that there are bus enthuasists who are not plainly obsessed with a certain company without any justification.
The fact is, while the pro SMRT camp here usually have to work harder to come out with reasonable, justified arguments, the pro SBS camp here likes to attack SMRT and their supporters without really giving justifications, or giving justifications based on SMRT's performance in the past. Its bad when an LTA decision on fleet allocation becomes a blame game against SMRT.
Yes, if you say 5 years ago, I will agree that SMRT is not as good as SBS. But over the past 5 years, SMRT has been the one at the forefront of implementing customer oriented initiatives, especially the past year. SMRT had been the only one engaging the public regarding buses, and has upgraded using their own resources, a number of bsep services.
Sure, there is room for improvement from SMRT, but some are deriding it, saying not enough or giving the same old its useless etc, but instead of demanding it to appear instantly, how about wait and see. I would suppose even SBS and SMRT themselves are waiting and see, especially in unchartered territories for the bus industry.
Originally posted by array88:Please explain why SMRT didn't have the "customer oriented move" on 972 and 860 (before the Enviros kicked in).
Its simple, SMRT didn't have enough HC resources before the Enviros came in, especially bendy buses which were much needed on the services they were running on.
The introduction of the Enviros and subsequently A24s and A95, allowed them to upgrade a lot of bus services, bsep or not, using their own resources.

Hmm maybe that's the reason why they stop at 16 A95s?? Maybe for now?
But maybe perhaps LTA should take more SDs from SMRT side, more DDs from SBST side for TT/Go-Ahead instead? At least giving it a balance fleet...
Did LTA press release state 2 DDs, 4 SDs?

Though your note is not targeted at me, please stop the BS.
Give examples of where SMRT is better than SBST. Again, I am not on either camp, it is just visible good service. You don't need too much brains to see who is doing a better job even today.

Whose fault? Wasn't it poor planning on SMRT part?
Since you are an advocate for SMRT.
Explain:
1. Why 187 has so many A22s added when Sd-->DD would have done the job keeping the fleet at 25/26 buses instead of 31? And then you cry about shortage of BCs.
2. Explain why 854 still has so many rigids, when its counterpart 25 for most part of its route is almost full fleet DD?
3. Explain why service levels on Yishun/Woodlands feeders/intra towns is so poor with so many rigids stormed on 811, 911 when HC buses would do the job with lesser fleet.
You know there is a big list that I can go on... It is only because of LTA/BSEP that you saw services like 61, 961, 985 get more HC buses.
I really dont see the point of complaining about SMRT's no-DD past like no mother liddat... Get a life (and a good hard look at the present) maybe?
All, yes ALL of the problems above, are mistakes of SMRT committed before 2014. That ONE error is being stubborn and mass purchasing A22s... Causing a massive surplus of A22s now...
No point crying over spilt milk... Why not compare the present?
Who's the one who brought HC buses into untouched areas previously? The one who has more punctual buses (indeed, you'll be surprised)? The one more responsive to commuter feedback? And to the finest details, the one with cleaner interiors?
It is unfair to slam SMRT this way... SBST has its flaws as well. Saying SBST is better than SMRT? I disagree.

I gave examples. You give examples. Just don't use your keyboard.
You want one more example: How 969 is managed v/s 168, 118
Another one: How 965 is managed v/s 85, 161 or newly introduced 117.
You want yet another one: How 851, 167, 980 are managed in Upper Thomson/Marymount area.
The list can go on...
So get a reality check mr smb128b before using your harsh words at me.
SMRT bought a massive A22s because a lack of bendies and DDs. Another was mass dereg of O405s, DAFs and Lances.
It is not just DDs and Bendies against rigids. Frequency and time periods also play a part. Mindlessly spamming rigids, DDs and bendies is never going to work. For Airport bound bus services, it leaves operators without much choice but to either spam rigids (eg. 27) or intro new routes.
Originally posted by BusAnalayzer:Did LTA press release state 2 DDs, 4 SDs?
Then there's a release of DDs enhancement...and the quantity was stated also iirc...
But SMRT ownself added 1 DD as there's high demand at the last few stops...you ownself also acknowledge the capacity upgrade last time when I've mentioned...
If not, look at 982E. From SMRT effort, they deployed bendy buses on 982E PM peak as a trial(from what some enthus mentioned) to see if there's a need for improvements.
Anyway, didn't you (guys) mentioned of not to be complaining? How come you guys are complaining about SMRT again? Wow?

Like you mentioned HC buses would do the job with lesser fleet...how come ppl still complain that SMRT downgraded slots when DD are added?
Yes although 911 have more SDs spammed, it does a pretty much decent job in having much regular frequency. When you deploy more HC buses, what's the point when the frequency is also crap?

Harsh words... Where did I ever use harsh words lol. And at you?! Dont think of yourself so highly man, since when do I have to send my greetings to you?
Lets compare the YISHUN range since you like 965/969 so much. Dont show favouritism by bringing in 16x.
969 comes every 2-6 mins. Care to tell me 39's?
965 comes every 5-8 mins. What about 85's?
969 hits express without stopping Jln Kayu, same goes for 965. Does 39, 85 and 117 do the same?
And HENCE, how often does 965/969 delay compared to 39/85/117?
Strictly speaking 117 aint even SBST man... Given SBST I doubt DDs will even exist.
I really dont see the point of being engaged in dogfights like these... But if you are so bent on speaking for your beloved SBST, my mailbox is ready.

2 DDs and 4 SDs? Is there an official word from LTA that they are standardising to 6 (or 7) models? As far as I've heard only four, Citaro, B9TL, A22, Enviro500.

Do you bother to check the previous few replies?
Ain't mentioning anything about standardising?

I checked, trying to follow, haven't been monitoring this thread for a long time, then I come in and trying to filter out the SBS vs SMRT discussions.
What I mean is I can't recall any official information from LTA about any preferred models of buses, aside from the concept bus tender.
Well, basically it's about SMRT the deployment of HC buses...
So I mentioned about 951E once have a ownself fleet add without LTA release of the 7th buses in 951E, which is a DD. But the reply gotten was somewhat unclear to me. And thus the "2 DDs 4 SDs" thingy come about. It's the original 6 timeslot announced by LTA, and there's 2 DD and 4 SD used.
So nothing about the models.
Personally, I believe different operators have different way of deploying.
But I see no harm in deploying full fleet SDs on the first day, and improving from there on. At least you act accordingly.
Take a look at 102, still poor demand I guess? Some even mentioned of waste of resources. Now, there's so many "fortune teller" here eh? So fast assumed that 117 would need FULL FLEET DDs by 2017. Yes I know the Aviation industry is expanding, but still, you can't assume things so early.
And YES SMRT might have ordered too many A22s, but I believe they would be in good use when there's train disruptions? So what if they spam more SDs rather than putting HC buses? It's creating more job opportunities, MORE RELAX Timing for drivers, LESSER chance of being late.
If you wish for a world class transportation, you not only need to have good(maintained) buses, but happy drivers. Not a situation where they are always rushing to meet schedules. Also, interchanges and depot should have more land space.

and if 969 can no compare to 168 how u compare to 39. 39 is for pasir ris yish. 969 is for tamp yish. i kno even 67 so bad manage at tamp. most time morn get rigid when bus pack to door.

Thanks for the clarification. So it was referring to physical number of buses, not models. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Calm down. I don't think TIB429E meant to be rude, he was just asking whether I had completely understood the past replies, which I had not.
