Although I agree that Punggol needs a bus alternative to town, I don't think combining 82 and 107 is the best option. Since there's already MRT, such a bus service should provide faster travel time by using expressway, and serve more areas not directly connected to MRT/LRT.
Not suggesting the detailed route in full, but such a bus svc can ply areas in Punggol and/or Sengkang not served by LRT, then go onto KPE exit at Sims Way, then serve Kallang, Beach Rd, Suntec/Marina Centre, MBS then Shenton Way. City Direct variant (654 for Sengkang, possible future svc for Punggol?) can go by KPE/MCE direct to Shenton Way, skipping Kallang/Suntec/MBS.

Do you mean Sengkang West Road? Or the extension of Sengkang West Way to Sengkang West Road itself? What does 85 or 965 got to do with Sengkang West Avenue which.is already accessible?

There was a plan of Service 117 from Hougang to Bukit Batok back in 2001 but it was never introduced.
Punggol is ulu place for now, because introducing it within this year is a waste of resources for the PTOs since about 70% of the flats won't be fully constructed within this year. The other reason is the very obvious transport hub at TPE. Punggol residents are encouraged to access bus services from there. Furthermore it's pointless to introduce more Punggol routes towards the city because it'l definitely ply Punggol Road (Service 82, 83, 136, ), Punggol Way (43, 119) or Punggol East (50, 62, 85) and cause more duplications. NEL isn't there for no reason. If you still don't think so, wait until Sengkang West Avenue opens and service 85 or 965 will get a revamp to ply Yishun Avenue 1.
Hi mr SBS2656X, your reasoning does not link to the initial statements which you make. You say LTA will not be touching anymore on Punggol and hougang until much longer later which definitely will not be true.
You say hougang int is already having parking issues due to the high amount of bus services. Then why introduce 1 more bus service in sept to further worsen it?
Back in yr 2001, objective then is different from nowadays. Ever since NEL was opened, long routes to North east were all rationalized. Current route introduction are all quite short. So seriously you think they still will give you such a long route from hougang to Boon Lay?
We are not saying to introduce any more routes in Punggol in yr 2014. But there will not be a hub until yr 2019-2020. Punggol Watertown Mall is up in end yr 2015 but that is not a hub. So going by your earlier statements, there will not be bus service introduced from 2015 till 2019? How will those people in new flats react?
Whoever says introduce new bus services by Punggol way, Punggol road or Punggol east will just cause duplications? You think they will not ply other different routes once it is out of Punggol. 1 or 2 similar roads do not make it a full duplication. In other estates, some have few bus services having similar roads out ot that estates, so Punggol should be no different.
Take note they are also building a new Punggol highway road deep inside which will directly link Punggol road to pasir ris which will not go through TPE. This will connect those waterway flats to pasir ris and will also need new bus services. Next time, TPE may not be that frequently used by Punggol residents once this inter town road link is up by end 2015!
Your last statement is indeed strange! What sengkang west avenue??? Service 85 or 965 why need goes by yishun ave 1 which is accessible through seletar west link from Punggol. Current route by TPE and SLE to lentor and yishun ave 2 for 85 and to woodlands for 965 will be sufficient and good enough. Cheers.

Punggol is going to be the biggest town in Singapore, even bigger than Woodlands and Tampines as per HDB report.
Current services plying Punggol road will not be able to cater to loading once ocuupancy increases. Also NEL already crowded. Lta has to take steps to get express services from Punggol to make few ppl take bus instead of mrt when they are traveling to say Hougang or Serangoon and thats where more services that ply inner roads will be useful.
For example when sv 62 plies Punggol Field, many people prefer to take it to Hougang than take LRT and MRT. So a lot more of such services are encouraged.

For that u have city direct services. No need full day route because return journey empty. Services have to ply central estates to warrant full day service. Also 107 extension is not meant for Punggol residents to take to Shenton, it is more for those who want to go to Potong, Kallang, Beach road can have direct service.
Today these folks have to take NEL to Potong or Boon Keng and then change to bus. Just direct service will help with growing population.

In all honesty, HG interchange is crowded. Serangoon is crowded. Where to get new service from? HGDEP should start operating bus service like AMDEP.
By the time before Punggol is fully develop,Svc 119 will become popular

We need some long distance routes as well. At least something like sv 50 and 972. These are the best routes introduced. And not redundant routes like sv 116. Even sv 49 should have been longer than what it is. 120 I wont comment anymore. 121 is a good route between Tiong Bahru and Tehlok Blangah. 4, 20 are good routes.
Originally posted by carbikebus:By the time before Punggol is fully develop,Svc 119 will become popular
Yes will get more pax but route does residential to residential, hence loading wont be heavy. Also Punggol Field area that 119 plies already is occupied. Few condos coming up. Once Matilda is up in 2017 will surely have a trunk as well that will pass through Sengkang. Hence, I feel 119 loading will increase but still something manageable by SDs. I think sv like 3, 82, 83 will all need dds.

All, the traffic at TPE near the bus stop area was damn smooth with the opening of the TPE bus stops. There are no hiccups at all. I observe for 3 hours in the afternoon. There are so few passengers at the TPE stop. Expected because today is a Sunday and not many know that the bus stop has opened today. Cheers!

Hi mr TIB1234T, sbs 168 number is still covered up in black. The same goes for sbs 39, 109, 858, 969. Yes a few people have already complained because that is the purpose, direct to bedok town which at present Punggol does not have. So near and yet no direct bus to bedok! Cheers.

I suggest they have the "city direct" on weekends too.
Ease loading on MRT and also provide much better alternative. Also further encourages weekend shoppers in the non-MRT areas to give up cars.
And thus the puzzling question: Why are the Cityshopper routes axed? Too expensive?

Hi mr busanalyser, there should be another new bus interchange at Punggol north at least in the planning together with the HDB flats and condos right now. No way can current bus interchange handle the crowds in 5 yrs time. I am exploring those empty land areas and still under URA planning. Because the Punggol highway road which links inter-town (not intra-town) is expected to be functional come yr 2016. Even tampines will have 2 bus interchanges, 1 at tampines central and 1 at tampines north. Cheers.
