SMRT's point is valid. Bendys perform alot better for feeders because it is more elderly-friendly and more efficient. What's the point of forcing people to go up for just a few stops? Doesnt make sense when space is not really a constraint at the roads where feeders ply. No point just suggesting use of DDs for the sake of using DDs. But in future, with all those MRT stations, most feeders can operate with just SDs so no need worry so much abt bendys or high capcaity buses for feeders. Then DDs can be used for just trunks.
Our HDBs now are so clustered together..maybe you'll get a LRT running at the 13th floor*(depends on each area) in future..or perhaps cable car..

Overall, it's seriously poor planning for the transportation system.."Micro-sized" interchange with "Mega-populated" crowds..BIG dreams indeed..
Anyway, if you think the operators alone going to bring in more double decks, wait longer maybe? It's gonna be more SDs. SD(lower run cost) + pack bus with more drivers(-ve part). Because during the off peak, your DD is literally useless. Good luck climbing up and down people
Lemon1974 will surely disagree over this..But again if SMRT really keen to use bendy for their feeder svc then why order only 40 units?Coming 2016 operators arent allowed to purchase anymore buses..Why not order another 60 units?LTA will surely compensate whatever buses that the PTOs buy before mah
The problem lies with the curent fleet of O405Gs that are still present on the roads. Might be easy to suggest early deregistration and buying new buses but this is being really shallow. Those buses still work well and have a few years of lifespan left so it is definitely not being cost effective to deregister early. It will only cause far hikes. I believe SMRT will place some more orders after the 40 units are delivered so that they can arrive in time to replace MKIIs.
As for LTA side, everyone can see that LTA wants to minimise no. of bendy buses but noone can say for certain if they dont want it at all. They might still purchase some in future for use in feeder routes or routes that are not DD-friendly. I would say they are still very undecided and probably waiting to see how the 40 A24s fair. The answer to why they are not buying any at the moment also probably lies with the existing fleet of O405Gs on the road.
Just some food for thought - LTA wouldnt have approved SMRT's purchase of bendy buses if it wanted to eliminate bendys totally and SMRT wouldnt have purchased 40 units, knowing that LTA wants to eliminate bendys. There's definitely something that doesnt meet the eye because we are not talking abt 2 kids over here.

True... but 983 already has 40-50 pax on the bus on ave 5 itself even before heading to ave 4... if 300 calls before yet 983 will safely reach interchange with around 60-70 pax... if 983 comes first.. for sure people not able to board on ave 4 and will have to wait for 300..
300 loading beyond ave 4 is less than 20 pax... 301 does get good 20-25 pax from ave 2... but not many from ave 5... as people prefer 983 looks like.

Wow.. I am impressed with your statement... good luck climbing up and down... have we become such a lazy country??? Well yes.. go climb one fleet of stairs and get some calories burned and leave the lower deck for oldies.

It has been loud and clear whether we want to agree or not.. It was clear when BSEP was introduced itself that LTA does not want bendies in SG... even though people fought tooth and nail on this forum... it is LTA's decision... and bendies are not here to stay. So instead of SDs spamming on all feeders... I think people will appreciate including yourself when crowded feeders/intra-towns get DDs...

There is a very good reason why the remaining parcels are not tendered out until 2022.
If none of the articulated buses (whether new or old) and older WAB buses (OC500LE, K230UB) are assigned to the Bulim tender, then all these buses will face the prospect of early retirement.

Hahas apparently there's a lot of lazy people already..isn't it? Well perhaps, from your point of view(As a bus enthu), maybe not.
And look at the situation now, in HDBs..even if it helps to burn the calories, not everyone will take the stairs..

Do you think the operators have parking space currently?
For all you know, both Bendy and DD will be keep to a min. amount in future, with 80% of the fleet SDs. But again, where do you get those BCs? Unless govt. changed their rules by increasing the no. of foreigners working here, it's not easy to hire locals.
And if LTA strongly disapprove Bendy buses, they would have done the same thing like London did..

To your point on BCs... that's why more DDs are needed... run a DD at 06 min frequency than run 2 SDs at 04 min frequency.

Hahas..pointless. If they are going to ban bendy, they won't be putting DDs on short routes. Instead, they will pump in more SDs(which means more jams)..or perhaps more different routes.
Otherwise, 860 would have receive DD long ago..*don't blame AMDEP having no DD ; but a transfer is anytime possible*

Cant really say... SBS feeders did get DDs... 983 also got DDs and is doing v well with them... If bendies go... for some high capacity feeders / intra-towns, DDs will be needed, otherwise expect interchange to go crazy.
And 860 is not a good example... coz there are not enough DDs to cater to trunk services right now... leave alone feeders / intra-towns

Technically none for now,But yes if they win Seletar and Ulu Pandan later..
If they decide on SDs they need many BCs.
How to attract locals, 6 days work leh, i rather work office job than doing this, 5 days work 2 days off.
I heard Tower Transit wanna introduce 2 days off per week rotation scheme..

983 gt DD and it's doing well? More of forced to go up.
It's not that I'm biased here, it's fact. Not every single Singaporean is so "on" to climb up and down each day...
At least half(of normal Singaporeans) will prefer the lower deck more than the upper deck. Seen it on SBS Feeders route already.

DD with feeders are suitable when the passenger house is like 10-15 stops away i.e 334,222 wich are suitable for feeder.
225 case peak hour need the DD badly. 291,293 need DD as well judging from the route. Idk if PSR feeders needs them or not.
Guess at such a registration rate, the MANs A24s will be all out on the roads by end-2015 together with the Enviro500s and remaining BSEP MANs. That should be the time where SMRT order more high capacity buses.
I would just say some people are very anti-bendy and are obsessed with DDs and this prevents them from seeing things in the right light. If you are the one so enthusiastic to go to upper deck to burn those extra calories, come I clap for you. Cos I really hate situations where lower deck no space to board and upper deck so much space. But like it or not, unfortunately, in our Singapore scene, people are lazy and we are an ageing population. This probably can never be changed, in the case of short routes. Plus also imagine how much extra dwell time a DD will take on a feeder vs a bendy bus. It can already be seen in SBST feeders ad this causes extreme bunching.
Bulim will probably not get any bendy Anw cos of that package only 189 and 106 have bendys. These 2 will probably convert to DD since 106 is town service NS 189 is a trunk service.
If LTA is so anti against bendys, there wouldn't have been a case where you see a new batch of A24s. It would be like London
LTA doesnt ban bendy nor does they encourage it but its up to the operator own cost buying them and trust me there will be no BSEP bendy in future.

SMRT? the next orders will be done by LTA most likely.....

Does that mean that SMRT or any other operator cannot use BSEP funds for bendies?
Looking at the trend,Do you think LTA will buy BSEP Bendy buses?Im not anti-Bendy but like it or not its SD & DD only..Whatever SMRT buy A24s now is their own account..By 2016 operators cannot buy anymore buses already
