HK has a population density of 6544 persons per sq km, much tighter than Singapore's 7615 persons per sq km. With our limited land space and smaller integrated transport hubs, having DDs & SDs only will work better for the country.
If deploying DDs for short routes are not economical, a full SD fleet can work out too. 1 eg is 238 during peak hours, which has to operate full SD bcos of the road restrictions along Lor 8 TPY. While 1 bus is picking up pax at the sv238 berth in the int, another bus will be scheduled behind to depart later to clear up the pax left behind by the front bus. Even sv806 (currently using bendies) has to practice this in Yishun currently.
As for height and road space restrictions than does not permit DDs to be deployed, we should have supplementary routes introduced running parallel to such services, but skips the stretch of roads with height/road space restrictions. As for CGA, it is really up to LTA to bother designing a new DD-friendly bus int/ter for the services.
As for a super short route like 902, I wouldn't even say it's needed if 169 is able to operate at better frequencies compared to now. Otherwise, it should have been introduced as SWT 169B.
As a person who stayed in HK for a decade, I totally agree with TIB868X
In fact, that was exactly what i said some time ago but ppl like u chose not to believe me...
Even for MTR buses, 80% of those routes goes to countryside and the vast majority of the pax only board and alight at a few certain stops... And it is not worth to buy and maintain bendies at such a high price for the remaining 2 or 3 svcs (e.g. Svc 506 which in fact could be reverted to Light Rail ops any minute)
So it isnt fair to compare with HK as the turnover rates arent high and little ppl take short haul... Unless u tell me u like paying HKD10.2 to get from APM at KT to ur home in Ping Tin
P.s. Local forums joke over ppl who take short haul coz its just... Weird and not worth fares
Agreed..How on earth did he compared Sinkapore with Hong Kong
now that our bus system is subject to GCM, essentially making the transport system accountable to the ballot boxes and subject to political pressure, so changes to the system is much harder to bulldoze through now as compared to last time. let's see what steps LTA can and will take to radically and fundamentally improve our transport system... not just cosmetic changes in adding bus routes and buses but also the way the system is structurally, closer to hong kong's i hope.

I too hope that the system/network would eventually be similar to hk's. But it is probably not likely anytime soon (or not even 10 years time). The root of the problem is with DBTF promoting passengers to use buses as a last-mile mode of connection. By simply paying few or tens of cents, you have buses right to your door step, who wouldn't want it? But the drawback is every bus route that passes through a MRT station will be used for this purpose regardless of it being trunk or feeder. Ends up... higher pax turnover, more spikes in capacity needed, each trip gets longer, and worse of all, people who take buses as their main form of transport gets impacted by longer travel time.

Now HK even wants to change more of its current routes to express
KMB now has plans to make dozens of svcs (eg. 89D) faster...

This system would work like a charm if its rail system is beautiful...
Sadly SG rail is far from beauty...
Evidently not having bendies is tantamount to having armageddon in the backyard for some here.
I lead a much simpler life I suppose, got bus, take, no bus, wait.
Got seat, sit, no seat, stand.
And for the umpteenth time, LTA is buying the buses.
Period.
If you want bendies, go elsewhere.
If you want varieties, cameo spotting, yada yada, go elsewhere also.
We will probably be getting only 1 make here, 1 make there, 1 make everywhere.
You don't like it? Too bad.
It gets people like me from A to B and that's already good enough for me. Tyvm.

Well.
Was just expressing my views.
After all, what forums are for.
If ur life is so simple, and you dont want to listen, then very simple.
GTFO!
Coz the focus topic right now is on BENDIES. Even the thread says it's A24 discussion thread. definitely BENDIES would be involved.
And if you dont wanna discuss then go elsewhere, and not come here to shut ppl up.
Seriously!
Btw LTA says to order bendies for heartlands Period.
But just telling those who STILL refuses to accept reality to just face it.
No bendy means no bendy.
Got seat means got seat.
No seat means no seat.
What's so difficult.

sorry i new to sgforum. y u so angry. it is bendy toipic la. u dont like bendy, ?
Heard from LTA Friend that A24 maybe cannot register.
Heard LTA dl bendies. High Capacity Bus will choose more DD. More capacity. Then bendy also a bit waste of space compared to DD at Interchange.
I wish for more A24 because I love bendies. And really hope they will be deployed to Yishun feeders like 804 hehe

if that the case why buy bendy buses in the first place? LTA has a head full of rubbish idea on public transport.
388S today again was on 180, behind was a Hispano bendy
I believe it will get registered leh. After all SMRT order them a year ago and they even give press releases abt using bendies on feeders. cant be LTA wait until so last minute to prevent SMRT from registering them right? Will be damn stupid. And if LTA was really banning bendies, they would have forcefully deployed DDs on SMRT feeders for the BSEP slots... atleast in woodlands and cck. Plus I thot someone mentioned it alr had a registration plate?

maybe cannot register until TIB904A retires in Nov?This is becasue with Mk 1s gone they can then replace them

... 900K dereg a long time ago
838H replaced by 388S
some Mk 1 are dereg about 30 units.
wonder what is LTA up to: 1 for 1 bendy replacement, cannot register bendies, bendies banned.

Yeah thats damn true..
Some trunks r suitable for bendies, some feeders r suitable for dds
