Same here... If thats the case I no longer see the point of bendies...

No wonder SMRT order only 40 A24...The three doors dual staircase that Swiss Autopost trial is more or less 12m version

Hopefully this three door varient will be equipped with less seating downstairs (only priority seats) and be deployed to feeders and intratowns... Then the A24s all throw to 858

That is what im thinking of..If its true then the A24 only exclusive for 858 and other height restriction svc usage.I might be thinking that with dual staircase,The seats is definately lesser than the normal 12m unless its a 12.8m version..
The second new bus is another Enviro500 model for PostAuto in Switzerland, which has ordered 19 double-deck three-door, two-staircase models with completely flat floors. This is the first double-deck order for Alexander Dennis in Continental Europe, and the first buses will commence service by the end of 2016.
Look like 12.8m version and if this prove successful,Im sure Volvo,Scania will follow suit..

Still doesn't solve the problem of people not moving up to the upper deck. Also doesn't solve the conflicting flows of passengers on the lower deck, which is the main factor affecting double deck dwell times.

Weren't you the one who was severely against the ppl not standing on 969? Surely you will see no problem with people climbing up. Here we have two stairs aka bottlenecks will pretty much be a thing of the past.
FYI I am assuming one of the stairs will be located at the rear, together with one of the doors. Hence there will be no collision between pax who just baorded and wanna go to the rear, and the pax alighting from upper deck. Instead alighting will be done all the way at the back, while the pax boarding could go to the back as usual.
In fact, the three door varient will do good as people now has an incentive to move to the rear. When I say this I mean LITERALLY the rear. This allows for more pax to be fit in a single bus.
But all these are still dream talk. Until we really see all of these in the concept bus, bendy buses would, and should be the HC buses used for all feeders and intratowns.

A 12.8m DD with dual or triple staircase would have less seats than a 12m DD with a single staircase. Although I must admit they will be more efficient in passenger flows than a 12m DD.
The absolute extreme in terms of pax flow vs pax seated will be a 12.8m with a single staircase, it can carry a lot of passengers, but will be the worst bus in terms of dwelling time.
That is why SG need this for feeders and short distance trunks..The medium and long haul trunk can use 12m DD

As I've said, this doesn't solve the problem of people not moving to the upper deck for short distances. The ideal bus for the job is still bendy buses.

Establishing my position:
My order for HC buses on feeders/intratowns:
"Concept bus" > bendies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Regular DDs
Just a 3-door chassis, but only have 2 doors. Where are the doors? One infront, one at the rear(all the way behind).
Passengers are noted to stand at the last door available for alighting, or crowd near the alighting door. Either you increase the standing space near the rear doors, or you simply move it all the way behind.
Dual Staircase MIGHT lead to passengers undecided on which stairs to head to. You might not be able to control the direction.
Anyway, all public transport buses should follow Low-Entry style, not Fully Low Floor. At least driver and everyone can clearly see the space behind.
Last time give LE buses,Commuters complain say very dangerous when e brake..Give low floor but still wanna LE,How ah?

An LE layout is impossible to implement with a three-door design.

My bad, wasn't referring LE with a three-door design together. Was just commenting on the current Fully Low Floor.

Not sure if they are the same...but CNG rear seems to be lower than OCs/Scania.
Maybe can try following CNG?? But no matter how the buses is structured, it's already dangerous when e brake. Especially buses like A22s...way too many poles, easy to get knocked when bus jerks, mainly those removed seats area. Passengers complain about that FYI..
so is a concept bus being built?

Yes.

The only issue is, when you remove the poles, it may lead to people not being able to grab on the poles. I do agree that the position and design of the poles at the areas with removed seats on the SMRT MANs is awkward, but I suspect it has got to do with the specs SMRT gave to MAN or Gemilang.
Really hope its a three door, dual staircase tri axle DD,Nvr mind about less seats below..
Just wondering. Is it possible to have a triple decker bus, or a quarter decker bus - while ensure that the overall height is still less than 4.8m? :)

Impossible leh..Just like i say,a three door/dual staircase with 12.5m below is just nice. Can go anywhere be it town or neighboorhood usage.
how many concept buses? when will it be exhibited
