  I am suggesting that Svc 97 can terminate its service at Marina Bay Financial Centre instead of Raffes Quay...

  Then first bus stop would be at Central Boulevard (Marina Bay MRT Stn)

  I know but it will not work because 173 route is quite unique and if you take that away there is no alternative connection. 

  Chestnut - Bukit Batok is not important, but Chestnut - Hillview is... and Hillview - Bukit Batok is because you have only 173 and 176. 177 is only during peak hours.

  Not taking the route away, more like separating it into two sections between Hillview / Hume. Besides, the only connections potentially lost are Bt Batok - Hume, Hillview - Rail Mall, and Hillview - Toh Tuck.

  An alternative route would be to extend 41 via PIE/BKE, Dairy Farm Rd, Petir Rd, Chestnut Ave, Chestnut Dr, Upp Bt Timah Rd, and a potential further extension north to Yew Tee. With this, Chestnut residents get connections to both Bt Panjang and Beauty World as well. How about that?
