I think loading not there... 156's loading is already disastrous especiall in the west. I often see 156 in Bukit Timah with <10 pax. Such services don't need fast forward varients IMO.

I think it's more of the runtime? 1.5 hr is quite a long journey, if from one end to another so yeah, just my two cents

I agree that an hour and a half is long. But it is one service that needs to be considered for if there is any amendment.
Yes, there is a faster way to Clementi but somehow it serve for a purpose and it also good alternative service for other services.
E.g: Along Ulu Pandan Rd, there are Svcs 7 and 165 which terminate at Clementi. So any passengers going to Clementi can also take these two service other than 156.
Also, the only service from Whitley Rd to Sixth Ave and Ulu Pandan Rd. Provides access for students from CJC, SCGS, HCJC, etc

I ever wrote an email to the LTA to suggest changing bus route 242 to take the shorter path to Jurong West Street 72, via Jurong West Street 64.
While the suggestion you made is different, I think the reason they gave for rejecting my suggestion can be applied to the suggestion you made:
"The amendment of Service 242 would result in a loss of direct link from Jurong West Central 1 to Jurong West Avenue 4, Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jurong West Street 72."
"In view of the above, we are sorry to inform you that we are unable to accede to your request. Nonetheless, every feedback is important to us. We have noted your request and will take it into consideration when we review the bus network for the area."
In the past, I kept writing to the LTA to suggest amending bus routes 242 and 181 to take the shortest path to the neighbourhoods 7 and 2.
As I look back at the email replies, I found one which explains it all on why there is no direct bus route to any of the two neighbourhoods.
"We seek your understanding that public transport evolved from a multitude of needs arising from the residents in area they served. Hence public transport are planned to meet most of these needs in an efficient and effective way while keeping travel time reasonable."
"For example, Service 181 besides connecting residents in Jurong West Avenue 3 to the Boon Lay Interchange, also connect them to Gek Poh Shopping Centre in Jurong West Ave 5."
"Similarly, Service 242 connects residents along Jalan Boon Lay to schools in Jurong West Street 72 and Jurong West Avenue 5."
"Given that buses serve a multitude of needs, it may not be possible for all buses to take the shortest route to all the destinations since it is just one of many destinations that they are serving."
Apart from the suggestions to change 181 and 242, there is one other suggestion which I kept sending emails about to the LTA, and that is about providing bus connections to Pioneer MRT Station.
The last time I made the suggestion to LTA to create a new bus service to Pioneer MRT Station, this was the reply they gave:
"On your request to provide a new bus service to Pioneer Station, we note that residents in Jurong West are generally well-connected by the existing bus network to either Pioneer Station or Boon Lay Interchange today."
"While Boon Lay Interchange may not be the nearest MRT station for some neighborhoods, it is generally the preferred MRT station for residents in Jurong West given that it is also an integrated development providing many amenities such as shoppings, eateries etc."
Well, I stopped sending emails to the LTA since July 2013. It has been two years. Apparently, the actual loading on buses and the passenger volume at Pioneer MRT Station speak for themselves, and has proven that there is really a strong demand for a bus connection to Pioneer MRT Station. Besides, I do not think I am the only person who kept asking for this bus connection. I guess quite a number of people have been asking for it. Hence, there is this new bus service 258, which would begin in twenty four days. :)

The suggestion that I made for Svc 242 is the anti-clockwise direction of the current Svc 242. The one that you mention is my Svc 245 suggesstion.

Alternatively, you could suggest a new bus route which takes the route of the original 242 (until 17 June 2006)...
Basically, unless there is at least one alternative bus service which provides an absolutely equal bus connection (e.g. all of old 242 duplicates 99), there is very negligible chance that suggestions made to change existing bus routes would be accepted.
Anyway, I like your 245...
From my observations, it seems that it is not the practice of the LTA to amend existing bus routes. The only exception is when a new bus interchange opens, or when a new route duplicates an existing route entirely. When comes to bus routes, it seems that the LTA only introduce new bus routes or extend existing bus routes.
(not only to Mr SBS 9256 X. This applies to everyone here.)

I like this route because it provides the bus connection from the Boon Lay Bus Interchange to Jurong West Street 24, and links Jurong West Street 24 to Jurong West Avenue 4.
However, this bus service only moves in one direction. People can only travel from Neighbourhood 2 to Neighbourhood 7, but not the other way round.
I feel that the route should have a looping point while the rest of the route should be in bi-direction, for travel from Jurong West Avenue 4 to Jurong West Street 24. This would encourage some loading throughout the day at most sectors of the route.
Otherwise, this bus service would only have some loading from Jurong West Avenue 4 (in the morning) and to Jurong West Street 24 (in the evening) during peak hours. During regular hours, the section to Jurong West Street 24 may have little loading, while the other sections may have only a handful or even no loading at all.

Five years ago, when I joined the forum and was only active at the threads about Boon Lay ITH and PTC list of approved bus routes, I ever suggested that we should have bus services travelling from other areas to the Nanyang Technological University, to relieve the loading on bus service 179.
Back then, there was the practice of the SBS Transit and the SMRT having separate areas of responsibility. I suggested having bus routes travelling between the Nanyang Technological University and Choa Chu Kang, but then I realised that it was not possible as both areas were under the responsibility of different operators.
Today, bus operators operate in whichever areas they have bus service at, and bus routes can go anywhere. We can have bus routes between the Nanyang Technological University and Choa Chu Kang.
I like your 973.
Firstly, by connecting the Nanyang Technological University to Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang, it provides an alternative to bus service 179 that only connects to Jurong West.
Secondly, by using the expressway, it provides a faster bus connection than bus service 172, for travel between Jurong West and Choa Chu Kang - although it does not ply Jalan Boon Lay.
Thirdly, this bus service provides a new bus connection between Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang, and Joo Koon. If the travelling time from Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang to Joo Koon is about the same or shorter than that of the fastest route (eg. via the MRT) currently available, this bus connection may be heavily utilised.
Thanks to the excellent bus connections that it provides, this bus service may experience medium to mid-high usage throughout the day. It could have a fleet made up entirely of Double Decker buses, and still have at least 50% loading on each bus.
However, during peak hours, there is traffic congestion at Pioneer Road North... Well, bus lanes could be the solution.
