Originally posted by jurongresident:I am sorry. I cannot make sense with the section between Bishan and Lavender Street. It is totally off, and it seems to duplicate the route of bus service 13.
I agree that between Queenstown station and Lavender station, bus service 51 duplicates the other bus services that also call at Queenstown station. Nonetheless, this enables a direct bus connection between Clementi area and the City area. If we skip this section to reduce duplication, there would be a loss of direct bus connection between Clementi and the City.
Clementi area has quite an ample services towards the city.
7 , 14 , 105, 106, 143, 175 --> Orchard/Suntec
7, 197, 175 --> Bugis
196 --> CBD
143, 147, 166, 197 --> Chinatown
Other wise, MRT is another alternative.
The cut off of 51 doesn't really duplicate much of 13, it skipped Potong Pasir area and 13 do serves Bishan North and AMK residents, different bus services serves different places, doesn't mean that duplication will affect their demands.
For 110, even with duplications, 159 still serves their own catchment areas, 110 is just for Sengkang West, AMK, Bishan, Whampoa.
Duplicating 156 is not a problem, Thomson area has quite a low demand during off peak, and different service serves different areas, giving them alternatives is a good way too.

It would be better if after Jurong Town Hall Road (from Bukit Batok), bus service 178 runs straight along Boon Lay Way and use Jurong East Street 11 to connect to Jurong Town Hall Road (towards Taman Jurong). Likewise for the reverse direction, in the opposite direction. This is because at Jurong Gateway Road, there is the Jurong East Bus Interchange. I think it is better to not increase the number of bus services at Jurong Gateway Road.

I like the idea of letting bus service 66 use Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 and 4. This is because Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 and 6 has traffic congestion problem during peak hours. By letting it use Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 and 4, it could enable bus service 66 to skip a bit of the traffic jam at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 and 6, thus enable a smoother journey.
However, I oppose the idea of letting bus service 66 use Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 and 8. This is because many people use bus service 66 for the direct bus connection to Millennia Institute, Bukit Batok Secondary School and Eden School. If we amend bus service 66 to use Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 and 8, this will remove that direct bus connection and cause inconvenience to many people.

Purpose: Connects Ganges/Havelock to offices in Suntec/Marina Center/Collyer Quay with no service today. Looking how popular 186 is during AM peak to Shenton Way, for sure 121 will get high loading. 121 between Ganges and NBR is weak with unit number passengers.
Alternatively, the extension could take another route, which is shorter and does not remove any bus connection.
The recommendation of yours would make the route too long (more than 22.5km) for a trunk bus service. I think it is better to omit Nicoll Highway. This would still "connect Ganges/Havelock to offices in Suntec/Marina Center/Collyer Quay with no service today".

Purpose: To boost loading on sv 122 that is performing extremely poorly. Looping at Queenstown MRT will provide direct connectivity to Dawson/Strathmore HDBs that current sv 122 is not able to cater. The loop around Commonwealth Dr is waste and duplicative of 195, especially in journey towards Commonwealth Dr. Connecting Tiong Bahru to east part of Jalan Bukit Merah (no connection today) and 120 did not provide this. Extending further to Shenton via Maxwell provides new CBD connection to Bukit Merah/Tiong Bahru residents. This move should help improve loading on 122.
Why let bus service 122 ply Upper Pickering Street when it does not ply Upper Cross Street?
Meanwhile, if we let bus service 122 skip Outram Road, this would remove the bus connection to Tiong Bahru Market and Zion Road area.
I have another idea on how to extend bus service 122 to Shenton Way Bus Terminal. However, it would also skip the Singapore General Hospital.

Route Amendment to bus service 258
I would like to recommend an amendment to bus service 258, to let the bus service run to Jurong West Avenue 1, Jurong West Street 41 and Taman Jurong.
The objective of this amendment is to provide for direct bus connections within the various neighborhoods in Jurong West to the various secondary schools in the town, which are not provided for by bus services 99 and 185.
Bus service 258 will use Taman Jurong Bus Terminal, and cease to be a loop bus service.

- 256's current route has rather small catchment (and again sandwiched by 192 and 255), which may have contributed to its poor loading
- Increase 256's catchment by plying the whole stratch of International Rd which doesn't have a service today (except some bus stops with 252 and 79)
- Direct connection between Taman Jurong and Joo Koon
- Relieve load on 240 and 98 around Lakeside MRT
- Service 247 serves Kian Teck and covers missing links of 256 in Jurong West
Cons:
- Loss of direct connection from Jln Ahmad Ibrahim (256 part) to Pioneer MRT
- 247 may have poor loading

To address the problems, how about extending 41 over to SLBP, via Boon Lay Way / Corporation Rd / International Rd? Then 256 can divert into Kian Teck, and even extend to Tuas in the future. The links to MRT on both sides of Jln Ahmad Ibrahim would be preserved.

It's a matter of efficiency and resource management, really ... it still bugs me as to why some of the less crowded Yishun trunk services (especially 852, 853) are not being diverted to serve the inner roads (as is the case for many SBS towns, in particular Tampines), while at the same time so much resources is dumped onto new feeders and intra-towns (804, 860).
For example, it would only require a short diversion for any trunk service serving at Khatib MRT to pass by Yishun St 61 / Ave 4, or Yishun Ring Rd near St 71 / 72. The trunk would link these areas to both Khatib and Yishun MRT stations, while skipping a few stops that the remaining trunks can easily cover. 812 would also be freed to serve the new St 41 / 51 areas.

859 is the easiest to do. Already so much duplicaiton with 856 that is almost full fleet HC bus. 859 can just loop around ring road instead of looping at Yishun int. Will provide direct connectivity within Yishun town for new ring road residents.
852 i think problem will be frequency is poor. this is just back up service. if 852 is diverted, commuters will complain of poor frequency and more buses will need to be added. But 852 loading is quite poor and depends majorly on if other services enroute are delayed.

What about 853 and 855? Seeing that both have moderate frequency / demand and do not serve Yishun Ave 2 outside Yishun MRT, is it possible that they can be enhanced to take over 812's route at both St 61 and Ave 4, with minimal route amendments? As per below:
853: Yishun Int --> Ctrl 2 --> Ctrl --> Ave 4 --> Ring Rd --> Ave 2
855: Yishun Int --> Ctrl (via SAFRA & KTP) --> St 61 --> Ring Rd --> Ave 2
In this way we have two-way direct services to KTP and SAFRA from Khatib MRT. Chung Cheng and Northland get proper links as well. The stop at Blk 935 still has 857, and is close enough to Yishun Ave 2 for other services.
Then:
812 (merged, with G/W): Yishun Int --> Ave 2 --> Ring Rd --> Ave 4 --> St 51 --> St 41 --> Ring Rd --> Ave 11 --> Ctrl --> Int.
(812 will now provide a much more direct link from Yishun Int to the area around Northbrooks Sec Sch, and complements 860 to Khatib. 117 will still connect to Khatib from Ave 1.)

Huh? dun have to wait till the package is up ah.. Can amend it now lorhx. Then passengers living along St 41 and Ring Road no need to wait for 804 that long or even squeeze into 860 to get to Khatib MRT.

I agree with your 2nd point. Svc 852 is somehow a back up service for a few services:
Svc 851: Yishun Int to Marymount Rd
Svc 74: Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 (1 bus stop) to Bukit Timah Rd (King Albert Park)
Svc 170/171: Along Bukit TImah Rd (Before Crown Ctr) to Upp Bukit Timah Rd (Junction of Old Jurong Rd & Upp Bukit Timah Rd)
Svc 66/174: Along Bukit Timah Rd (Before Crown Ctr) to Upp Bukit Timah Rd (Junction of Jalan Jurong Kechil & Upp Bukit TImah Rd) and Bukit Batok East Ave 6 to Bukit Batok Central
So I guess re-routing this service should be a solution but like what you mention the frequency and loading plays a factor

With all considerations, it's really just 851 + 157, with minor deviations and some 74 to link the in-between.
Any comments to my suggestion to 853 / 855 and 812 above?

Your merged 812 may lose the Yishun RIng Road (Chong Pang) to Khatib MRT commuters and also the Swimming Pool - Chong Pang or even interchange commuters.
Svc 855 should not served the St 61 sector. No point leh.. Svc 853 also just leave it as it is..
