After yesterday's conversation with a few members here in SGforums, I thought about a possible merger of BSEP new services 49 and 258.
I took out a pencil and some papers and made some sketches, with reference to a map. It was quite a bold move. As much as possible, I tried to optimise by having the fastest possible route - without compromising on the objectives of both bus services 49 and 258.
The result is a nineteen kilometre route between Joo Koon and Jurong East. As it turns out, it is possible to merge bus services 49 and 258 without making the route too long to manage.

Corporation Drive), Jurong West Street 64 and 75, and Jurong East Street 11 and Boon Lay Way.The reasons are as follow,- Jurong West Street 42 already has the most direct route to Jurong East, provided by 334; there is no need for the connection to Lakeside MRT Station.- Part of Jurong West Street 81 already has 179 providing the bus connection to Pioneer MRT Station. The other parts can continue to have 258, at bus stops along Jurong West Avenue 5.- Corporation Drive already has 98 providing the bus connection to Jurong West Street 51 where the market is.- The route of 258 along Jurong West Street 64, 75, 82 and 81 duplicates route 243.- As a Jurong West resident myself, when I go to Jurong East walk walk, I usually patronise JEM and Westgate, sometimes Big Box, JCube and IMM (via the link bridge)... Anyway, the bus stops along Boon Lay Way do not connect to most of the landmarks. As such, I feel that we should skip Jurong East Street 11 and Boon Lay Way.Do let me know how you think about this route suggestion on merging two bus services 49 and 258 into one.If you have an idea on how to improve this route suggestion, please feel free to share here.Thank you and have a nice day!
Hi mr gekpohboy, you state you will not compromise on the objectives of both bus services 49 and 258. However you took out sbs 49 link from jurong west st 42 to lakeside mrt station. If that is not called contradictory, what is that called? This is a very big compromise on sbs 49 top objective. Cheers. Thanks.

On Jurong West Street 42, the consideration was on the market at Jurong West Avenue 1... otherwise, I of course want the bus to run along Jurong West Street 42. but then, ya la, there's already 98... so, yeah, I think we can let the route run along Jurong West Street 42. :)
Actually, the route suggestion would seem to duplicate 185 from Jurong West Street 71 all the way to JJC. To reduce duplication and optimise resources, I think it is better for the route to run along Jurong West Street 81. I still want it to go to Westwood area as this would at least connect Bulim/Wenya with Taman Jurong. Besides, with Bulim bus depot in the middle, it is also easy to inject fresh buses into the route. So, yeah, I think that's about it. :)
For that matter, we should also let the bus continue to run along Yung Kuang Road, Corporation Drive and Yung Ho Road. It would benefit the people staying in South Taman Jurong. It would serve the future area at the Southern end of Taman Jurong.
Nonetheless, the Jurong Town Hall Road part I still want the bus to run direct between Jurong East Bus Interchange and AYE. There must be this fast and direct bus connection between Jurong East and Taman Jurong to attract people to use this bus route. Besides, there's Jurong Regional Library, which I believe will attract people to use this bus route for connection to the library.
In all, after the above-mentioned adjustments, the length of the revised route from Joo Koon to Jurong East is around 20.5 kilometre. From Jurong East to Joo Koon is around 22.4 kilometre. The total length is around 42.9 kilometre.
Currently, 49 and 258 combined length is 37.4 kilometre. So, this is as good as a 5.5 kilometre new route.
I know it's quite long la.... but one direction still shorter than BSEP new route 47 which is 22.9 kilometre.... total length is comparable to BSEP new route 972 which is 40.2 kilometre and a loop service.... so, I think it's okay.
but still, if want to cut down on the length, can use my original suggestion, except now include back Jurong West Street 42. this should make the new route comparable to BSEP new route 117 which is like around 20 kilometre in one direction. :)

Needs construction of bus stops on opp side of road for JW St 41/42
Why not JW St 81/82 <-> JW Ave 5 <-> JW Ave 3 <-> JW St 22/23 <-> JW Ave 2?
Jalan Bahar during peak hours got jam... may affect the service reliability.
Not saying Corporation Road and AYE don't have jam... but...
why not let it run into Bulim industrial area?
Running along JW Ave 3, St 22 and 23 can provide bus connection between Bulim industrial area and Taman Jurong. :)

I would prefer doing ave 5 > Jalan Bahar > Ave 3 for people to transfer at Jalan Bahar with 172/199.
Those from 181/185 can transfer along ave 5.

Those from 181/185 can transfer along ave 5.
Actually, Jurong West Avenue 3 and Jurong West Street 22/23 do not directly serve the Bulim Industrial area. It is Bulim Avenue and Bulim Drive. According to the URA plans, Bulim Drive will eventually connect with Jalan Bahar. I feel that eventually, we can let the bus run along Jalan Bahar, Bulim Drive and Bulim Avenue, when running between Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jurong West Avenue 2.
Currently, Bulim Drive does not connect with Jalan Bahar.
I acknowledge that by running along Jalan Bahar, people can transfer between this bus route and 172/199, and continue their journey to Choa Chu Kang or Nanyang Avenue - bypassing Boon Lay Bus Interchange. This would enhance bus connections. :)
Well, actually, we could simply let the bus run along Jurong West Street 75, Avenue 4 and Avenue 2, and straightaway run between Jurong West Street 82 and Corporation Road. However, it would miss the Bulim industrial area completely, where there would (eventually) be a critical mass comprising of people working there who need bus services to connect them to either their house or a MRT Station. Nonetheless, Jurong West Avenue 2 has a critical mass there, comprising of people going to the Saint Joseph's Home and the new Mosque. Likewise for Jurong West Avenue 4 where there are around two Temples. These critical masses would add on to the critical mass along Jurong West Street 75 and form quite a large critical mass. So, maybe it's better for the bus to run along Jurong West Street 75, Avenue 4 and Avenue 2. :)
... actually, has there already been plans to extend 49 to Joo Koon, but are currently shelved? because since last time, there are people saying about 49 extending to Joo Koon. Furthermore, from the way you insist this new route to ply Avenue 4 and Avenue 2 - and knowing how most people here lack creativity, but only harp on what is obvious or already decided, especially based on my experience over at the Jurong Region Line thread at the other forum - it seems that it is already decided that 49 would use Jurong West Avenue 4 while running to Joo Koon, if it is extended to Joo Koon Bus Interchange.
Anyway, letting the bus ply Jurong West Street 75, Avenue 4 and Avenue 2 is good, in the sense that there is minimal duplication with 185 and 99, and that there is a certain degree of uniqueness in the route. :)
Besides, this route is the shortest between Jurong West Street 82 and Corporation Road. So, I think it's better for the bus to run along Jurong West Street 75, Avenue 4 and Avenue 2 instead. :)
Thank you for taking time to read this reply.
I think we all know the answer already. :)
The merger of 49 and 258 is probably an eventual thing, and when it happens, it's probably going to be another BSEP new route... well, what matters is the bus connections. :)
With all the discussions on Bulim, let's try this:
(Splitting up of service 246)
==========================
Tower Transit service 436: Bulim Depot - International Rd (loop)
SBS Transit service 246: Boon Lay - Yung Sheng Rd (loop)

- Yung Ho Rd

bro, you have missed the point. The point on route 246 where we can really split the route is at Lakeside MRT Station, not Yung Sheng Road, because that's where most people start and end their journey on bus service 246.
Alternatively, we can shorten bus route 246 to loop at Lakeside MRT Station. From Corporation Drive, the bus can run along Tah Ching Road, Yuan Ching Road, Boon Lay Way and Corporation Road (towards AYE), before running on Corporation Drive in the opposite direction, and return to Boon Lay Bus Interchange in the reverse direction of the route.
This would shorten the length of bus route 246 from the 16.9 kilometre now to around 12.8 kilometre.
For the skipped part of route 246, we can replace it with a new bus route, which can provide bus connection between Lakeside MRT Station and Bulim Industrial area.
Here, I would like to make a new route suggestion.
The length is around fourteen kilometre.
People affected by the shortening of route 246 can take this new bus route from Lakeside MRT Station to the Boon Lay neighbourhood.
People working in Bulim Industrial area can take this new bus route from opposite Lakeside MRT Station to their workplace.

Mutual Route Swap between 192 and 182/182M.
182/182M:
- take over 192's current route between Boon Lay Bus Interchange and Benoi Road.
- skip Benoi Road and Joo Koon Circle.
- run along entire stretch of Upper Jurong Road, directly between Pioneer Road North and PIE expressway.
- run between Boon Lay and Tuas South (loop).
- with that, Singapore Discovery Centre and Pasir Laba Road area can once again have bus connection to Boon Lay Bus Interchange.
- this can be the alternative public transport option, in the event if there is a train service disruption at Tuas.
- if the route too long, can split the route at Tuas Bus Terminal when the MRT opens.
192:
- skip Upper Jurong Road, Jurong West Street 63, etc.
- "shorten" to Joo Koon Bus Interchange.
- other parts of the route not affected.
- take over 182/182M place at Joo Koon Bus Interchange.
- run between Joo Koon and Tuas.
- some people are probably affected when 192 was re-routed. for them, this amendment would benefit them, as they can straightaway take 258 go Joo Koon and then transfer to 192 - no need take 242 or 243 to boon lay first, or take 258 to pioneer transfer to 192... save time. :)
Route amendment on 251.
251:
- skip Boon Lay Way.
- instead, ply Jurong West Street 64, Jurong West Avenue 4 and Pioneer Road North.
- this would make up for the loss of 192 at Jurong West Avenue 4 providing the shorter route to/fro Boon Lay Bus Interchange... :)
- Anyway, there is almost no boarding or alighting activity at bus stops along Boon Lay Way between Jurong West Street 64 and Pioneer Road North...

- Boon Lay - Bulim (loop)
- Boon Lay Bus Interchange
- Jurong West Central 3
- Jurong West Street 64
- Jurong West Central 1

- Boon Lay Drive
- (turn right) Boon Lay Drive
- Boon Lay Place
- Boon Lay Avenue
- Jurong West Central 1
- Jurong West Street 64
- Jurong West Central 3
- Boon Lay Bus Interchange
People affected by the shortening of route 246 can take this new bus route from Lakeside MRT Station to the Boon Lay neighbourhood.
People working in Bulim Industrial area can take this new bus route from opposite Lakeside MRT Station to their workplace.
Then again, I couldn't help but wonder why 246 couldn't simply be extended to Boon Lay (skipping Boon Lay Ave/Pl, already served by 240), then run with Green/White plate? Would it result in lopsided demand or deployment during peak hours? Cause overcrowding in 240?
How about 36 start from Lor 1 via Amber/Parkway then loop at Airport instead?A new service from Upp East Coast looping at Tomlinson Rd.
113's route diversion is rather special today.
because of this it had long queues at the interchange, many pax took 113 instead of 62 towards lor ah soo due to the diversion.
If the diversion could be put in place, it would be good. The diversion starts from Hougang Ave 8 > Hougang Ave 4 > Kovan station > Lor Ah Soo
Would definitely provide a faster connection to Kovan for Ave 8 and ave 4 residents than Sv 101 and Sv 112. Also there will be direct bus connection from Upper Paya Lebar Road/ Lor ah soo / Hg ave 1 / Hg ave 2 to Hg ave 8/4 (pax no longer need to transfer to Sv 112 to Hg ave 8 at hougang street 21)
Would be a good amendment rather than duplicating 62 from Hougang Ave 6. Pax living at Ave 4/8 can have a direct bus connection to Lorong ah soo especially to the market.

Or either way if 67 and 168 can handle the load, the service can enter Marine Parade Rd, East Coast Area, Bedok Rd and Simei Ave to complement more services such as 43 and 31 especially at ITE College East. It can skip Woodlands Ave 12 and proceed to Woodlands Ave 2,9 and Gambas Ave to serve the key amenities in Woodlands such as RP and Causeway Point and aid service 169 on the service load. But that would be a very heavy route. Its possible if there is a supplementary route to aid this service which I have already planned
