68 already taken from Pasir Ris.

My point was in response to SBS8002T's suggestion of getting 78 to terminate at Clementi Int. Should that be a necessity, 175 would have been a good choice to extend, as compared to the other long haul trunk services at Clementi Int.

Insider info? A new service to serve Pasir Ris being planned?

I was thinking of 14 to terminate at Bukit Merah and 7 to terminate at Kent Ridge instead to make way for svc 78 and 1 new service cover the deleted sector of svc 14 up to Bt Merah.

14 being shorten to B. Merah is good idea too.
166 could cover the lost sector in Dover, 147, 196 to Bukit Merah.
7 should remain.
If 96 could be touched to terminate at K.R terminal, can also add up a space for new svc
If there is space at Buona Vista Ter, maybe 147 can be shortened to Buona Vista, however, the downside is that people who board 147 from Bukit Merah to Clementi would have to transfer to MRT or another bus at Bouna Vista (though there are 105, 106 and 185 heading towards Clementi from Buona Vista)
Alternatively, 14 can be shortened to Buona Vista instead of 147 to make space at Clementi for 78.

14 cannot be shortened to Bukit Merah Int as the western stretch of Jln Bukit Merah will lose a direct service to Orchard. Those going to SP/ACJC/ACSI will also need to take 196 which is less direct.

(On splitting 14; irrelevant to Clementi space problem)
How about extending the western half over to Orchard Rd, CTE and Balestier Rd to terminate at St. Michaels? Then we have
14: Bedok - Bt Merah
146: St Michaels - Clementi
With both routes covering Orchard Rd - Bt Merah. Despite (some) route redundancy and duplication, could still be beneficial to both sides.
if want to clear space at Clementi Bus Interchange, maybe can transfer bus 96 to Kent Ridge Terminal, run bi-directional along Kent Ridge Crescent, loop via Clementi MRT exit A and Clementi Avenue 3.
bus 147 actually can shorten to either Ghim Moh Bus Terminal or Buona Vista Bus Terminal, since the section at Bukit Merah mostly alight/board at Commonwealth MRT Station, and the section along Commonwealth Avenue/Avenue West got many bus services duplicate.
bus 166 also. it can connect to Dover MRT via North Buona Vista Road, Dover Road, Clementi Road, Commonwealth Avenue West... and use Ghim Moh Bus Terminal. same goes for bus 14.
in conclusion, of the fourteen bus services at Clementi Bus Interchange, I feel that four (14, 96, 147, 166) can be diverted away to Kent Ridge Bus Terminal, Ghim Moh Bus Terminal and Buona Vista Bus Terminal.
by the way, how many parking lots does Clementi Bus Interchange have?
(Out of topic)
Once the Bidadari ITH is up, 103, 119 & 142 can move there. 103 because although it is currently well utilized, most citaros can be replaced with DDs, although the trial failed in the first place. 119 is so that the residents there have link to Hougang St 21 although this is weird, but at least the DDs can be utilized fully. 142 can extend because it is quite limited and it looks like its demand can be higher, in addition to link to Bidadari from PP ave 1.
Just a heads up that there are plans for the construction of Tampines North ITH, Marina South ITH & Buangkok bus int. Thought that 965 can move to Buangkok then at least more demand for the service but idk

Are you sure those taking 147 only board at Commonwealth MRT?

It mainly fetches people from Bt Merah / Chinatown to Little India area, but once it passes Little India, the loading drops a lot...
- Not all passengers are foreign workers, though, so 147 does help for those working at Hill St / Selegie areas
2 people boarded at Commonwealth MRT as compared to 27 people before Commonwealth MRT.
You call this "mostly"?
Just reading above responses; Just shows many of you have no idea of the loading pattern of buses.
14 shortened to Bukit Merah - are you serious guys? Please take the service and you will know it gets full DDs between Orchard/River Valley to the entire stretch of Bukit Merah and Dover Ave.
If the question is to make space for 78 at Clementi Interchange, this can easily be done. 78 needs only 1 bus resting time at Clementi and JE can be its bigger layover time. This is to ensure better reliability.
147 can be shortened to Buona Vista. I think this proposal is workable but then you should also know that you have lost the direct link between Jalan Bukit Merah/Queensway and Dover/Clementi.
Actually I have a route which links between Bukit Merah/Queensway & Clementi/Dover. Just tell me if you would to see it

27-29
166 can't be touched.
Wonder if 156 could be touched to terminate at Kent Ridge whereas a service can cover lost sector of Ave 2 to Central stretch.

Appears that we're dealing with two separate problems here: splitting 14 up for reliability(?) and providing space at Clementi for 78.
Which goes back to my original post of extending 175 to BBDEP (and/or 173 to loop around Ave 3) as a (temporary) solution to the second problem, and subsequent post of splitting 14, with the western half running between St. Michaels and Clementi, to the first problem.
A possibility to solve both at the same time would be to extend my 146 (western half of 14) to BBDEP or Bt Batok Int. But that'd involve quite a lot of uncertain factors.

Apparently some users here are suggesting to shorten (not split up) 14 JUST to save space at Clementi... Though it is clearly not your intention.

The split-up detailed here, just for clarity. I do not know the loading distribution of 14, I just hope that my splitting can improve the separate fleet/loading control for both sides, and of course, reduce bunching.
Downside would be the necessity of additional bus and BC resources and some transferring inconveniences. Some of the crowd from Dhoby Ghaut / Bras Basah Rd will have to rely on 16/175 or other means of transfers.
Eastern half: 14 (Bedok - Bt Merah)
Western half: 146 (St. Michaels - Bt Batok Depot)
(An alternative route would be via Clementi Ave 6 to reduce duplication with 106, but this is likewise duplicative of 185/189, and result in delays from the industrial crowd during peak hours.)
That's nearly like precisely the old route of 14 (Bedok - Bt Merah), except that it followed the present 123 to Bt Merah instead.

That amendment (involving 14 and 123) was a long time ago. Amended 14 doesn't exactly duplicate any other (current) service. Similarities with 16 are only along Orchard / Bras Basah / Nicoll Highway and at the terminating points.
In case if 147 gets amended, here is what I thought:
885 (Sembawang - Clementi/JE/Boon Lay)
via
Sembawang Way
NSE (future)
Orchard Rd
Eu Tong Sen St
Jalan Bukit Merah
Queensway
Commonwealth Ave West
- Complements 167 towards Bukit Merah
- Duplicates 147 in order to replace deleted sector
- Provides city link between both towns
If there are going to be 2 routes (14 & 147) removed from Clementi, 885 should go inside to replace 147 (sounds unfair though)
Otherwise, the route should terminate at JE/Boon Lay
Thoughts?

Seems unnecessarily long and duplicative. Don't introduce a brand new service just for the sake of replacing the short section that will be cut from current services (14 or 147).
If the sector between Sembawang and Orchard is on express, the current routes (7 & 14) are sufficient between the west side and Orchard. If you want a fast Sembawang - Orchard - Bt Merah link, consider introducing 167E instead.
I don't know the loading for 51, but based on what i always see is 51 bunching.
Split to 2 services
152
Hougang Central - New Bridge Rd
Here is what I think of everything:
If 14 & 147 are amended, 146 will be introduced to cover 14 since it is an important part of the route.
147 is to be amended to terminate at Marina South ITH, keeping its route between Bukit Merah & Clementi unchanged; the route towards Hougang will be withdrawned and replaced by 152 from New Bridge Rd Ter to Hougang to increase reliability of 147. 153 also go to Hougang from nearby. Also introduce 110 running between Marina South ITH & Sengkang/Buangkok to serve the needs of Sengkang residents
Basically the amendment of 147 is the very same amendment of 76 previously
Split 14 could be easier job, and insider job. The service 146 can run from Bedok all the way to Shenton Way, which goes via the Nicoll Highway Station, and via Raffles Quay, Shenton Way. It can replace the 14e, and provide reliability, as most of the load all go to Shenton Way, not to Orchard Road unneccessary.
In this way, 14 can be diverted to Dunman High School, but commuters are not inconvenienced as they can transfer at Nicoll Highway bus stops, and part of Mountbatten Road bus stops.
