I still think LTA is standardizing to 4 models of bus and not 2. They won't shut off Volvo and Mercedes-Benz just because they lost the tender. The fact that LTA is even giving Volvos and Benzes to TT under GCM means there is some level of commitment to those 2 manufacturers.
In light of this, I am less sure of the significance of the concept bus tender.

this could mean that Scania is history. As for Japanese makes, save your breath.
there are 6 manufacturers of city buses I support: Scania (N113CRB/L113CRL/L94UA/K310UD), Volvo (Olympian/B9TL), Mercedes (O405G/OC500LE), Hino (HS3K), MAN (NL323/NG363), Alexander-Dennis (Lance/Trident/Enviro500).

I don't see many Japanese exported citybus chassis around now...
Do you think the BSEP buses transferred to Bulim will be re-registered to SG rego?

They should, for consistency.

I suppose it would involve a lot of paperwork and processes...furthermore, the unregistered ones are still ongoing and will last for years...which rego series are you suggesting then?

Paperwork... depends, as all these matters are directly under LTA's purview and as such the amount of paperwork may be lessened. Remember that an agreement has been reached to transfer legal ownership of SBS BSEP buses to LTA, which is a move I suspect is aimed at making it easier to re-register. But I still feel that the SG series must have some significance, since LTA registered the first few TT buses as SG prefix. If the ex-SBS buses were to retain SBS prefixes, then the new TT buses might as well use the TT prefix.
As for the series, I'd suggest a new series in the thousands for each model. Re-regged B9TLs may use SG7xxx, for example.
The significance of the SG prefix is likely to lie also in data consistency for bus identification.
Consider SBS3000 and SMB3000, if we take only the integers (which is quite probably the preferred way for machine-reading and identification), the buses can't be reconciled by the system.
If we begin the gradual process of converting all eventually to a single prefix, this complication naturally disappears. This approach is preferable to living with different prefix, and worse, having the same integers, which is the case now.
I can't imagine Singapor will have 10,000 public buses, so unique 4 digit integers for bus ID sounds like a very good solution to me.

That is a good argument for a common rego prefix. However, I am still unsure of LTA's commitment to the common SG prefix, given that the latest batch of BSEP B9TL Wrights were registered in the SBS35XX series, which directly conflicts with SMRT's own double deck BSEP series.

but you have a point when you say that about unique 4 digit identifiers. I remember this came out a few years back when the SMB13XX series of MANs came out, it was speculated that this was to avoid clashing with TIB425 onwards. Although that's within 1 company.
Has anyone spotted TT buses doing training?

This should be answer enough:
I would presume that would mean the takeover has a vertical component to it (likely a duh). This means that registration of the buses is now LTA's matter.

LTA to take over SBS Transit's contracts for new bus purchases

Apologies for asking this especially since you have yourself said "likely a duh", but what do you mean by vertical?
The press release states that LTA will directly buy 50 buses, which are split into twelve single-deckers and thirty-eight double-deckers.
SALE OF NEW BUSES AND NOVATION OF CONTRACTS TO LAND TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
1. SBS Transit Ltd (the ‘Company’) wishes to announce that it has signed a Letter Of Intent (‘LOI’) with the Land Transport Authority (‘LTA’) for the following:-
(i) Sale of 50 new buses (‘Buses’) purchased by the Company from June 2015 to December 2015 to LTA. The Buses comprise 12 Single Deck buses and 38 Double Deck buses. The purchase consideration for the Buses will be at their respective Net Book Value (NBV) as at 31 December 2015 (‘Effective Date’). The total NBV of the Buses as at Effective Date amounts to approximately $23 million, representing 6.8% of the consolidated Net Asset Value of $338 million (as at 30 November 2015); and
(ii) Novation of procurement contracts (‘Contracts’) by the Company for purchase of new buses scheduled for delivery for 2016 and 2017 to LTA. The Contracts involve a total of 346 new buses comprising 100 Single Deck buses and 246 Double Deck buses with a contracted value of approximately $164 million. Out of the 346 buses, 210 buses are scheduled for delivery in 2016 and the remaining 136 buses in 2017.
2. The Company will be signing the relevant agreements with LTA for the sale of the Buses referred to in 1(i) and the novation of Contracts referred to in 1(ii). Following this, the Company will lease the affected buses from LTA for its operation until such time that these buses are handed over to the operators of the tendered contracts under the Government Contracting Model for bus services.
3. The above does not have any impact on the net tangible assets per share and the earnings per share of the Company for the financial year ending 31 December 2015.
4. None of the Directors and controlling shareholders of the Company have an interest, direct or indirect, in the above.

Thanks for the info.
The 50 new buses, are they being purchased from SBS BSEP or non-BSEP orders?

These new buses refer to buses that have been purchased by SBS themselves, ie non-BSEP buses that have been registered from June to Dec, meaning we are looking at the later 39xx buses and the single digit ones and possibly several brand new and as yet unregistered buses (38 DDs) and last 12 68xx buses (12 SDs).
Registered on 29th December 2015:
SG5011Z
SG5012X
SG5013T
SG5014R
SG5015M
SG5016K
SG5017H
SG5018E
SG5019C
SG5020Y

Someone counted SBS3971-3986 (15 buses) and SBS1-23 (23 buses) as the 38 double deckers.
I suspect clause (i) has nothing to do with SG5000-5020.

There are some buses in the 3971-3986 range which were regged in May and there are some buses outside of that range which were regged in June. My interpretation is only those regged in June will be bought by LTA in this round.
I do expect more of such rounds of bus purchasing by LTA from the 2 current operators.

It has nothing to do with the SG plate (GCM buses) and BSEP buses.

Others counted just SBS1Z onwards, leaving out the 39xx series. So keep any eye out for SBS24-38.
