probably will crawl as the service takes 90 min per direction according to the schedules

Hi mr orange28, at least they will give the end to end journey for service 129 a comparable timing with one who starts using mrt. Cheers. Thanks.

Among 4, 20 &127 to fight for two berths, which one will lose out? Anyone guessing
4 should def get a proper berth (replacing sv 18) since it has good loading from interchange. 20 on the other hand does not have many people boarding, mostly starts aroung ave 2 towards Simei, so okay. 127 should also get proper berth (replacing sv 39) and will be on same berth as sv 72 to help relieve each others' loading.

End-to-end as in St Michaels to Tampines? I wonder if Bartley MRT to Tampines MRT can be just as fast by svc 129 vs by MRT? This would probably be the more meaningful comparison IMO as opposed to comparing with a destination that has no MRT access anyway (which is what LTA likes to do BTW ...)
(I think Bartley MRT to TP should definitely be faster by svc 129 vs MRT then svc 23, but who knows?)

Ofcourse 129 will be faster. It is express from Bartley MRT onwards till it hits Tampines town. Otherwise you have to take CCL and then transfer at Paya Lebar.
+ I don't foresee any traffic on Bartley road east viaduct.
23 cannot be compared as their routes don't even intersect except for the Tampines town bit.

seriously... need so loose for what..
Honestly, what are the odds that 500 is fake?
Seriously don't see a need for it, at all.
It's fake, right?

You have not seen svc 20 loading...
PM peak, queue stretches to McD, often disrupting human traffic flow...
20 at least needs something like 4, where the queue is at least aligned with the berth... The "berth" it has now is rly a very last resort measure...
Honestly idek how tf a bus could board there lor...
Originally posted by dupdup77:Hi mr autumncs, service 129 seems a well planned route. A distance of around 20km too. Just nice! Not too short either. Connect three towns tampines, toa payoh and whampoa with enough catchment area to support it. One thing I like is the middle semi-express portion. Nowadays, need some semi-express route to give the journey an added boost in terms of timing. Cheers. Thanks.
How is it "semi-express" when the stretch plied has no stops along the way in both directions, and there are no traffic lights as well?!
This is no different from 858 etc. wat...

Hi mr SMB128B, yes it is semi-express. It passes the stretch of Bartley road east non-stop but it stops at selected stops along Bartley road before continuing to braddel road, etc. For Bartley road, it stops at Bartley mrt and Bartley church before it goes semi express again then reaches braddell. Cheers. Thanks.

Lan lan suck thumb example 1: Svc 168
When 168 was first introduced, the portion between Woodlands Ave 2 and Tampines Ave 10 was non-stop.
Then, a stop at Jln Kayu was added. (I was fine with that initially.)
Then, the exit from TPE (east-bound) to Jln Kayu changed from a slip road into a traffic-light.
Then, a stop at TPE (near Punggol Rd) was added.
Then, there's a new traffic light at Seletar Aerospace Flyover.
Compared to the original route, the current route has 2 additional stops... and 4 additional traffic lights eastbound or 6 traffic lights westbound (including 4 traffic lights on Jln Kayu Flyover alone)...Lan lan suck thumb example 2: Svc 502
This express service used to be the fastest between Orchard and Jurong East.
Then, SBS changed it into a uni-directional route downtown and added Bayfront Avenue. (If you board at Orchard, you're forced to take a tour of Suntec and Bayfront before hitting the expressway.)
Then, thanks to the opening of MCE and closure of ECP, svc 502 was diverted to serve Central Blvd, Shenton Way and Keppel Rd.
I stopped taking 502 from Orchard to Jurong ever since. Most of the time, LTA would justify the addition of stops "for the benefit of more passengers". At the end of the day, bus routes are designed to maximise catchment and hence maximise revenue...
The only wise decision I have seen recently is the amendment of svc 518 to ply along KPE and PIE instead of ECP, Bedok South and Bedok North.
Even 518 is a shining example...
First is amendment to Bayfront...
When ECP shut down and traffic junctions started appearing EVERYWHERE LTA refused to remove the stop at Bayfront MRT, even though:
1. With the opening of the Sheares Link junction it is pointless for 518 to detour round Marina Blvd to hit expy when it could be done via Sheares Link, and
2. Passengers who wish to board 518 there could simply walk over to the MBS bus stop via the MRT station, making that stop completely irrelevant
But ofc LTA was stubborn/lazy af, so now under the usual route commuters suffer 3 new traffic lights... The longest one was the one turning into the expy, takes 2-3 mins alone to change signal...

By ur logic isn't 39, 168, 858 also semi-express then? Since it "stops at selected stops" along TPE instead of non-stop?
Likewise for 966, which stops at Trellis Towers and Potong Pasir?
Originally posted by hgdep103:probably will crawl as the service takes 90 min per direction according to the schedules
Really?? Where?

Hi mr SMB128B, since when 39, 168, 858 stops at selected stops along TPE? They stop at the only stop along TPE. Not selected stops.
129 stops at selected stops at Bartley road. Some stops along Bartley road are skipped. Different analogy with 39, 168, 858.
Anyway, you can say all are semi-express. Cheers. Thanks.
tbh 15 should have been the one amended to Tampines Concourse. If people can alight at TP library and walk, why not do the same too?

Hi mr SMb1368T, let the extended service 18 do the job. 18 connects tampines concourse interchange with tampines ave 7 at TP library. No need bring about 15 and mess it up. Cheers. Thanks.

Actually Bartley to Tampines (or Tampines West) by MRT would be even faster when DTL3 opens. I think 129 is more to complement the MRT as a fast, long haul connection, especially between Toa Payoh/Bartley and Temasek Poly (alternative to taking MRT all the way to Tampines West and transferring to a bus).

Well, dupdup you have been proved WRONG again ![]()
On this forum, you snubbed some people saying if a service plies along a certain road, it cannot skip stops if it is a normal service. 129 is a normal service but skips many stops along Bartley road.
Now are you going to accept you were WRONG on snubbing people who made such suggestions before or ARGUE to justify you are right? ![]()

Not really... I have observed it many times before. There is also 292, 39 at same berth for people to go Tampines Ave 2 (which is usually the preferred boarding berth).

Sometimes I don't understand why LTA can't build a left-turn slip road to bypass the traffic light, or allow "left-turn on red". I believe Singapore drivers are smart enough to give way to traffic on the right if necessary. It is stupid to wait for the light to turn green when there's no traffic from the right (esp at night).

Even if DTL3 + CCL is faster, I will still choose to take 129 because it's direct, I'm more likely to get a seat, and I can admire the scenary along the way. (If I take the train, the only "scenary" is my fellow passengers.)
so for sv129, they decided to print a slightly bigger size poster (think A3 size) and they now paste on the information board at bus stop instead of the tiny bus stop poly...

Even though MRT will be faster (not way faster), 129 is direct without transfer. Moreover, exit of Tampines DTL3 is quite far from Century/Tampines Mall. In addition, if someone is not going close to MRT, 129 will give direct access or quick transfer points within Tampines town, rather than alighting at Tampines MRT, walking to interchange and queuing at berth.
