Currently, SMRT has 355 units of articulated bus: 314 units of 0405G + 41 units of A24. A24 de-register in 2032. O405G de-register by 2021.

Even if SMRT wins (worst scenario), most of their bendies will have retired by the time Seletar package is activated, leaving only 100 units which most will have been reserved for the usual WDL/BPJ/CCK routes anyway.
SMRT negotiated contracts end in 2023. By then, it would have 41 articulated buses; A24, which still have 50% lifespan. Have to incur loss.

SMRT just need to know how to deploy them correctly, and at the right time. Advise not to put them back to back can already(unless that's really the peak period)

Yes I agree, but the feeling I get is that they will put 3 shitaros for every 2 bendies taken off the road. Unless LTA give them more DD's.
But pampered services like 190, 960, 972 etc. of course will continue to enjoy the lions share of DD's.
