There is no amenities/facilities at Punggol Central, hence will not be a good choice.
Hi mr busanalyser, why services go by Punggol central? Because field and drive have LRT supplementing it and I know the authorities don't like services duplicating LRT. One look can tell.
Why I don't suggest field? It some sorts mirrors 386 intention to connect Punggol plaza.
One sensible way is by Punggol drive to connect polyclinic and oasis mall coming up. But it duplicates LRT. So I did the intermediate way. Go in by Punggol central via east and come out by Punggol drive. Appease both authorities and residents. Cheers. Thanks.

But Punggol Central already has 3, 83, 85 - more than enough + 136/386 if you consider first 2 stops as well.
It doesn't matter if 386 calls at Punggol Plaza. Punggol East (end) residents will need connection to nearby mall which is Punggol Plaza or Oasis Terraces (depending on TOP and flat completion).
IMO Punggol Central doesn't need any more services unless one of the existing services is diverted/changed. Not my preferred choice but all you may know 381 might do Punggol Central if authorities do not want to duplicate LRT. Let's wait and see.

Hi mr busanalyser, Punggol central is the ultimate main road in Punggol. Moreover, it does not have LRT. Naturally the authorities will plan bus services around this main road. As can be seen, most services (3, 34, 43, 43M, 83, 84, 85, 117, 118, 136, 386) go through Punggol central before being parachuted into other roads. All leave by Punggol central. Only 50 goes by Punggol drive and 62 goes by Punggol field in LEFT DIRECTION. 119 goes by Punggol field in RIGHT DIRECTION. All the rest (exclude 382G/W which is a so called central loop) goes by the main road Punggol central.
The services along central not only act as function for feeder services, but also act as TRUNK services to bring to other parts of island. So there is no need to divert other services just to accommodate 381 along Punggol central.
Same for the other side of Punggol central where 43, 43M, 117, 118 ply. They only activate service 119 to ply Punggol field instead of central (not counting feeder 382G/W). They still let most services 117, 118 ply Punggol central when leaving interchange on the day of implementation instead of letting them go by Punggol field-Punggol way.
Anyway the above mentioned observations are true as of today. Whether how they want 381 to be routed is up to the authorities. If they want it to duplicate the LRT, so be it. Take note some LRT trains are upgraded to 2-train for peak hours already. Cheers. Thanks.

Hi mr sbs6750E, yes precisely the authorities don't want to duplicate LRT. So they implement sbs 86 make it go one small loop before going to rivervale drive.
It was only upon many years later that they finally relented and implemented a more direct sbs 371 after so many people complain that the Sengkang east LRT is super crowded. Even the platforms on top of Sengkang LRT side cannot take it.
Even up to now, you can count for yourself how many services go into rivervale drive (the portion with rumbia LRT). Cheers. Thanks.

Why suggest to cancel? Don't see your rationale ...
As I was boarding Svc 111 yst and today... I was thinking of re-routing this service back to Hougang Central. Shall provide alternative route for passengers from Orchard to the north-eastern sector.
If anyone can't remember the route, here is the original route of Svc 111 from Hougang Central - Ghim Moh:
Upp Serangoon Rd - Jln Besar - Bencoolen St - Orchard Rd - Penang Rd - Somerset Rd - Grange Rd - Orchard Boulevard - Grange Rd - Tanglin Rd - Alexandra Rd - Commonwealth Ave - Ghim Moh Rd
My rationale is as above and also the bus quite empty at night... As such, could provide alternative route besides the North East Line.

For 81: Extend to Bidadari only on the daytime, create a night service N81 from Azalea Park to New Bridge Road from 12am to 6am.
For 82: no idea
Forget about 97 and 103. Their routings have changed and revamped in such a way that it will be difficult to be proofed for service rerouting to the NEL.
For 106: The routing would be quite terrible. You might as well break up the service:
106: Bukit Batok - Montfort School
108: Punggol Northshore - Orchard Road (Loop)
For 111: Extend to Little India first.

111 can start from Marina Centre and loop at Ghim Moh instead.A new svc 110 start from Marina Centre and loop at Jln Anak Bt should 171 cut shortened.
Is it possible to divert 160 from WTC to WDL via 178's route? For 178, the ideal route amendment for skipping WDL Rd leading to WTC would be via Ctr Rd. I am not sure if one can make a right turn from St 11 to Ave 3 towards Kranji. If it can, this will be the ideal route.
178 route to WTC
Ctr Rd, St 13, St 11, Ave 3 (Marsiling MRT)
BKE, Mandai Rd, WDL Rd (Continue to Boon Lay)
That section of Mandai Rd currently only have 927, which serve Mandai Hill Camp. This amendment connect it to Marsiling and Bukit Panjang MRT. It also connects Marsiling Estate to Marsiling MRT
The segment that 160 take over from 178 have decent to heavy loading during peak hours. With 160 reverting into a trunk service, it can potentially run DDs, while its JB fleet can divert to 170X.
I would also suggest that if 178 needs a terminating point if Boon Lay is deem too far, JE would be ideal, and instead of amending service like 49 at Taman Jurong, extending a short-mid length JIS like 256 to BBT via 178 route. While retaining the connection from BBT to JE/Taman Jurong, it adds new direct connection from Taman Jurong to Jurong West N6 and Joo Koon Int.
Originally posted by gekpohboy:There are people who take 178 to get from Taman Jurong to Bukit Batok, and vice-versa.
If that's the case why are you suggesting that 178 merge with 180? Wouldn't that be loss of Taman Jurong - Bukit Batok connection?
How many take from Taman Jurong to Bukit Batok on 178? Have you taken service yourself and observed OR shooting in the stars?
** Asking very politely. No offense **
