I heard this service will go towards Keat Hong side (ITE area) from Bukit Batok Int.. but im not sure if it will passby Bukit Gombak MRT...
Previously, a new bus service 944 was introduced for Bukit Batok West.
As of 3 November 2017, 7 months ago, the highest loading was only 12 passengers [reference], and they were all construction workers as none of the residential developments in Bukit Batok West was ready for occupation yet.
I don’t know about the loading now, but what I feel is that maybe the current demand is not sufficient for another bus service at Bukit Batok West.

Idt you have ever understood the idea behind these sparse frequencies.. it is meant to attract long haul travellers who do their journey planning in advance, so they do not end up waiting at the bus stop for a long time.. the target commuters are never the last minute kind who just happened to want to take the svc.. those who don't know how to plan, end up missing their bus or, worst still, just walk to the bus stop without even knowing or bothering to find out when the bus comes with SG BusLeh, just go take the train..
Those who can plan will reap great benefits. Journey time from Melville to Bugis is max 30 mins. By MRT it's a solid 45 min since you need to transfer to the MRT Stn..
In practice the "long waiting time" shouldn't even count as part of journey time if you planned your journey in advance, since it could have otherwise been productive time spent. Whether is it that extra pile of laundry at home, that last paperwork, or some grocery shopping at a nearby store, are useful ways to spend that 25 mins you have ignorantly wasted..
I've always believed in low-freq bus routes with accurate timings (which had always been the case for 12e) and a bit of technology. If one could plan 6 months in advance for a flight to KL that departs every hour, what's the problem with planning an hour or two before for a bus that departs every half an hour?
Hi mr SMB128B, in all journeys, the waiting time must always count as part of the traveling time when traveling from Point A to Point B, be it bus alone, bus-bus, bus-mrt, mrt-bus, mrt-mrt, mrt alone. And it applies to those who look at apps or even those who don’t look at app and turn up at bus stop spontaneously. That should be universally applied and not selectively applied just to ignore the long waiting time to do other things as what you claim. If so, this means that the consumers are intentionally trying to occupy time so as to achieve a better and shorter timing for express services. It should not happen. When comparing, it must be spontaneous type. The poor frequencies of express services is the real cause and should not be assisted by other factors. Cheers. Thanks.

Don't think so, probably until ECLO ends for this month

I am resident of West Valley. Many residents have started moving in West Ridges, West Crest, West Valley and West Terra since May 2017. Upcoming precincts of West Rock and West Edge will start key collections for the residents soon in Q3 2018 and Q4 2018.
SMRT 944 isn't useful for many of us. Quite a walking distance for us living in West Ridges and West Valley. So most of us would opt for existing bus services that are much better in frequencies compared to that of SMRT 944. This forces us to walk at least 200m to existing operational bus stops along Bukit Batok Road and Bukit Batok West Ave 3. We don't have much choices. Not very inclusive accessibility.
SMRT 944 plies around precincts that are not completed. In morning and evening, you would see alot of construction workers on board. Residents do still take 944 from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange / MRT station.
We are waiting for direct bus services into our neighbourhood. By the way the bus stop outside Blk 448B of West Valley @ Bukit Batok was completed last October 2017. Until now there is no bus service at this bus stop.
Part of Bukit Batok West Ave 5 towards Bukit Gombak is still under construction. We are hoping to have direct bus service from Bukit Gombak MRT station towards our West Valley bus stop.
If service 991 is indeed confirmed, we would be delighted.

And 991 should be a trunk service by its numbering.
Hoping it is Bukit Batok Int - Tuas Ter I guess.
Insider news.

The service is confirmed to start in July 2018. Route wise not sure yet.

* Connects BBT West & CCK to Boon Lay via expressway (quick connection). 172 will be more of a service to connect Boon Lay to Old CCK Road and CCK to Old CCK Road.
* DDs will do well on this service once BBT West develops.
Even so, the fastest link between BNL and BBT is 174.

Isn't there already 974 connecting CCK to Boon Lay via KJE? Not saying this service is redundant as they serve very different areas, but just to point out...
In terms of demand-supply, right now Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 has bus connections to Jurong East (66, 178, 506), Jurong West (157, 174, 178), Bukit Timah (178), Upper Bukit Timah Road (66, 157, 174, 506), Woodlands (178), Toa Payoh (157), Orchard (174), Outram (174), Paya Lebar (66), Bedok (66).
Along Bukit Batok Road, there’s 160 and 180 to Jurong East (160), Jurong West (180), Bukit Panjang (160, 180) and Kranji (160).
What’s really lacking at this moment is a bus connection to Choa Chu Kang. 160 and 180 connect to Choa Chu Kang but that's only to the boundary; Bukit Batok Road and Choa Chu Kang Road.
To rationalize resources, I would rather the new bus service be run from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange and loop around Choa Chu Kang MRT, providing adequate connection between Bukit Batok West and Choa Chu Kang. It would be like 990 originating from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange and looping around Jurong East MRT, just that this one originates from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange and loops around Choa Chu Kang MRT.
I'm assuming the entire stretch of BB west Ave 5 (the link to BB west Ave 2 towards Bukit Gombak MRT) will be completed before 991's release because it shows 'U/C' in Streetdirectory maps, though can anyone confirm?
IMO 991 plying Bukit Panjang would be better than CCK because pax can always change to MRT assuming it plies Bukit Gombak MRT and furthermore, there will be JRL in the future that offers direct connection to CCK from BB west so to avoid paralleling 2 MRT lines at the same time, Bukit Panjang would be a good alternative. Sure, there's already 176 to Bukit Panjang from BB west Ave 3 and 160/180 from BB Rd, but it may be too long of a walking distance to some BB west BTOs..
If it’s for the DTL connection, there’s already bus services 66, 174 and 157 connecting Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 to Beauty World MRT Station, and 180 connecting Bukit Batok Road to Bukit Panjang MRT Station. Having a bus connection from Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 to Bukit Panjang MRT may not have the intended effect as people may not want to go all the way up to Bukit Panjang and take the bus down to Bukit Batok, when they can just take a bus straight from Beauty World (a few stops before Bukit Panjang) and get to Bukit Batok which is just next door.
In terms of distance travelled, people would rather go for the shorter route, thus your suggestion may not work. Sorry.

I don't see the point of it going to Bukit Panjang. There is 160/180 along Bukit Batok Road. There is 187 from BBT West Ave 2.
991 needs to connect to CCK as there is no link between BBT West new town and CCK today.
