Service 170 Part II

Greetings ppl,
i'm a newbie here and would like to share some of my findings of Service170 with the rest...

As my Camp is located near MINDEF, i often take service170 from Dunearn Road. Here are some of my findings:
1. Most MK3 for Service170 has faulty Speedometers! Most drivers are able to speed more than 60km.
2. The drivers of service170 is able to out run other vehicles such as Buses, taxis & vans especially in the early mornings & nite. Usual HOTSPOTS for them to do these stunts are Bukit Timah Rd near HCJC, Hillview.
3. The drivers does CHANGE Shift outside St Francis Methodist School @Bukit Timah Rd where the S'pore Driver will take over the Bus from Malaysia Driver. The Malaysian driver will then cross over to wait for another bus to drive back to JB.
4. Bus Conductors seems to like to check on this service. I saw 4 Bus conductors boarded the BUS at the same time and only one conducted the check.

Interesting. However I think the bus drivers turned off the speed limiter, thus it goes faster. Where is the exact place where they change shift? When CW1 started operation on 15 May, I took 170 from Kranji MRT to Queen St after a joyride on that Causeway Link MAN. In March 2001, I took 170 home (obviously a B10M Mk II) from Woodlands Checkpoint after returning from Cameron Highlands but the bus simply zoomed all the way down as if it's on highway (it was around 2230 when I boarded the bus). No shift changing along the way! So where exactly do they change shift? Poor me is confused now.

Yes I have taken svc 170 a couple of times and I saw that they do change shift at the bus stop. If you observe carefully, there is actually a small indent before the actual bus stop, and it can be quite common to see one or two service 170 Mk IIIs parked there with the desto. I agree with you that svc 170 buses like to speed near HCJC,....its very damn near my school, but only provided that there is no jam, unlike in the morning, sigh.....
I think that the speed limiter is just a dud in many buses, most of them are only good at giving out warning sounds only. If you take service 969 bendies, you would know what I mean. By calculation, I have recorded a 969 Volgren bendy doing 68.5km/h at night during weekdays ( no Kidding! ). Moreover, some Bendies and Lance 245s like to take Sembawang Rd as a scenic race track, and I would bet from experience that the speed exceeds 60 km/h.
