Yeah, TIBS will be furious because it will definately eat into 969's loads. I suspect they will replace the Lances with a full 0405/0405G fleet or else it will lose out to service 39Originally posted by TIB1186Z:Starting from 17 Aug 2003, SBST will finally be returning to Yishun after a prolonged absence.![]()
Introducing service 39
Yishun to Tampines via Pasir Ris
The route includes Lentor Ave, SLE, TPE, Pasir Ris, Loyang Ave,
I expect my favourite single deck, the Volvo B10M Mk 4 DM3500 to be deployed on this new service. TIBS may also be forced to improve its services, like what happened in Woodlands.
Sorry ,but ur thread wasnt listed when I checked and clicked on the New Topic button to post....Call it coincidenceOriginally posted by TropicalSQ744:oi oi i already posted a topic on it![]()
IMHO the entire fleet of 965/969 is already very good... and there are not "Lances" in 969.... only maximum one Lance per day as a cameo. In fact on most days 969 has no Lances.Originally posted by TropicalSQ744:Yeah, TIBS will be furious because it will definately eat into 969's loads. I think that TIBS will be missing its pax who wants a direct connection to Pair Ris, but the main crunch is that svc 39 will pass through Loyang Ave. Some of the pax on svc 969 work in the Loyang Industrial Area, and the Changi Airport Cargo Complex,. They would rather take 39 and transfer to 89 at Pasir Ris or svc 9 and 19 at Loyang. It is faster, cheaper and offers more transfer alternatives rather than being stuck with svc 19Originally posted by AntiDennisLance:IMHO the entire fleet of 965/969 is already very good... and there are not "Lances" in 969.... only maximum one Lance per day as a cameo. Service 39 wont be able to compete like 161/168 can do to 965/969. Yishun Int has a 4.0m height restrictions so there is no way SBST can deploy superbuses on 39. Even if the superbus can clear the sheltered sole entry gate of Yishun Int, the ex-854 berths intended for 39 has 3.2m height restrictions due to the steel sheltered boarding gangway!
The whole thing seems more to me that SBST is simply opening new routes to put surplus buses and drivers left over from the recent rationalisation. Competition is never a serious thing between SBST and TIBS.
Yes, true. However the problem is at Tampines, what berth would Sv. 39 use?Originally posted by TIB1186Z:I think that TIBS will be missing its pax who wants a direct connection to Pair Ris, but the main crunch is that svc 39 will pass through Loyang Ave. Some of the pax on svc 969 work in the Loyang Industrial Area, and the Changi Airport Cargo Complex,. My sentiments excatly...Tampines is already full houseOriginally posted by SBS9818A:Yes, true. However the problem is at Tampines, what berth would Sv. 39 use?
How do u know it is 4.0m? By Using a plumbline and calculating the azimuth? Or using a laser / ultrasonic range finder, but don't forget that they only work horizontally, not vertically. There is not even one sign that says says 4.0m. Remember, that roof can be deceiving, suchas that at Cahngi Airport and at Woodlands interchange, the latter which many argued was impossible, but SBST is now happily operating VSOs w/o their roofs sliced off.Originally posted by AntiDennisLance:IMHO the entire fleet of 965/969 is already very good... and there are not "Lances" in 969.... only maximum one Lance per day as a cameo. There WAS a sign on top of that entry shelter. 4.0 or 3.2m height limit. Definitely not 4.5m. I have been living in Yishun for 15 years, long enough to know that.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:How do u know it is 4.0m? By Using a plumbline and calculating the azimuth? From my observation, the clearance should be sufficient for a 4.3 m double deck., and the berth shelter just above the roof
Which part of Changi airport? i doubt it's the basement bus terminal?Originally posted by TIB1186Z:How do u know it is 4.0m? By Using a plumbline and calculating the azimuth? Oliver, IT IS the bus terminals. So the superbus had to enter the wrong way? This proves double-decks cannot enter Yishun, thus Sv. 171 did not operate any double-decks.Originally posted by oliver_yuen87:Which part of Changi airport? i doubt it's the basement bus terminal?
It is the basement terminal. If you observe carefully, the height clearance to Terminal 1 bus terminal is 4.5m, but DDs are not deployed because of the road width and the 3.8m height clearnace in Terminal 2Originally posted by oliver_yuen87:Which part of Changi airport? i doubt it's the basement bus terminal?
Hopefully when they build the integrated bus interchange once T3 is completed, the services plying Changi Airport that deserves double-decks(Sv. 53, Sv. 36) get them.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:It is the basement terminal. You very free to go to Tampines from wherever you were ah? As speculated Sv. 68 berth will be moved.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:News on service 39:
Today, all the necessary bus stop plates were put up. It is indeed refreshing to see the purple and red plate besides the yellowTIBS pates
At Tampines Interchange, service 39 will occupy svc 68's berth from this Sunday. Service 68 will be shifted to a temporary queue at Berth B4 ( alongside 969, 293 and 10 ).
At Yishun Interchange, service 39 will occupy the 2 empty berths besides service 855. The double yellow cheat line on the circular route display is replaced by the red and purple of SBST.
Service 39 will operate from 0600 to 2330 hours daily from Yishun Interchange. In addition, the full route details of service 39 are up on the Yishun Interchange route info board, and plies the entire stretch of Pasir Ris Dr 1.
You think ? I have to make that trip to Tampines to photostat an article for PW, and that frigging book is only found at Tampines Library....cun afford to ask my other team members to do it...They wont do it and im worried after they din even know how to get to Boon Lay.Originally posted by SBS9818A:You very free to go to Tampines from wherever you were ah? So jiat lat ah. No wonder you had to go there and very free to snoop around the interchange hor?Originally posted by TIB1186Z:You think ? Its pure instinct and reflex. Anyway, I have to go to Tampines Interchange to take 969 home what, and I was waiting for TIB1205 to come out when I saw that single barricade with a small green plastic plate tied to it besides the berth. I got curious n i thought it was svc 39 ( Makes sense to put it directly besides its rival ), but it turned out to be svc 68. Then i saw the notice announcing the swapping of berths, and the service 68 number printed on white paper and stuck on top of the service 39 number....svc 68 is so damn pitiful...Mk IIIs leaving the interchange with no pax and return with only 5 pax during evening peakOriginally posted by SBS9818A:So jiat lat ah. Yes, since Sv. 68 berth has been moved, it is a prime candidate to be removed after 3 month trial period. What you mean Mk IIIs, there is only one pathetic 700P for Sv. 68, I boarded it once for joyride, noone boarded till Industrial area, and even then there were like only 5 passengers.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:Its pure instinct and reflex. Still got SBS 760 and SBS 769, other MK IVs include SBS 2832, 2829, a lot of them from the later 28xx batch.Originally posted by off_service:Here are the fleet that I saw today on service 39:

Just to add, the number of Tampines bound pax yesterday was much more than the number of Yishun bound pax on TPE. You must know that although Yishun Interchange has high pax traffic, most of the pax come from the nest few bus stops, but im not insulting ur intelligence whatsoever.Originally posted by AntiDennisLance:Did a short bus spotting of svc 39 in Yishun this morning.
Date: 18 Aug 2003, working Monday
Time: 0830 - 0905 hrs
Vehicles spotted:
SBS 0760 R
SBS 0769 S
SBS 0847 A
SBS 0866 L
SBS 2832 R (retired at 0900 hrs)
Passenger pattern observations:
Strangely enough there are more Yishun-bound passengers (<10 each bus) than PasirRis/Tampines bound passengers ( <= 2 each bus).
It dont look like there's enough pax to sustain the service if today's observation is anything to go by. I dont see 39 staying in Yishun for long if the situation dont improve in one or two month's time.
The userbase is too concentrated in one place plus not many potential passengers know about it. There are still quite a lot of sotongs looking at the 39 poster at the bus stops today. It seems like many people wont bother to look at any posters at the bus stops until they see the actual unfamiliar bus and/or they find/suspect that the service they are waiting for got withdrawn. I think 39 will have more passengers in a week's time.
Well I aint complaining anyways, at least now i have a direct bus from Yishun to the Pasir Ris chalets and White Sands Resort :p
