Eh, I think there was a similar topic back then, but never mind, Anyway, Leyland Olympians are not "occasional" on service 30, many are permanent buses.Originally posted by mercedes_hispano:Hello everybody. I created this new topic because I want to find out which are the services which you guys are in favour of, and why. I, like you guys, just loooveee to go around Singapore taking buses. I shall list my top 5 below to start the ball rolling.
For a start, it's
1) SBST Service 35 for me: The short and scenic journey into the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal is the BEST. Says it all.
2) SBST Service 30: The Benjamin Sheares bridge and Harbourfront are good enough. Plus there are the VOs' and occasional LOs'.
3) TIBS Service 700: Bukit Panjang <----> Shenton Way/Marina Centre via Orchard Road. Fast, convenient and direct for the Bukit Panjang Passengers to the city. The occasional bendies during peak hours make it all the more better. The only lousy point is the traffic jams in the PIE.
4) TIBS Service NR1: Mostly MB 405s and Mercedes Volgrens on this quiet route, and just at my doorstep. How can it be missed? The buses go fast at night. On festive seasons like CNY and Christmas it's even better: There are even Bendies (mostly Habits and Hispanos) displaying 'NR1'. We don;t see this everyday, do we?
5) SBST Service 257: I would had prefered the JI Services, but I guess this is the next after this. Plus with the new addition of the Non A/C Volvo Olympians and partial Non A/C Leyland Olympians must this 'ancient' route real rare nowadays.
This is it. There can be more, but please do share and air your views freely! Enjoy this forum.
PASIR RIS 88 TOA PAYOHOriginally posted by kuang:Personally, some of my favourite bus services are:
970- Bt Panjang to Shenton Way
I like its route as it travels via Hillview, Jalan Jurong Kechil, Sixth Avenue and passes through Chinatown before terminating at Shenton Way.
168- Woodlands to Bedok
This is also another one of my fav routes especially when it travels along SLE and TPE. The crowd also lessens when the bus reaches Bedok Reservoir.
61- Bt Batok to Eunos
I admit this service's route is damn freaking long and almost takes 2 hours to complete the journey but if u really want to catch a summarized view of the interesting sights in Singapore, this is one service to explore.
67- Choa Chu Kang to Tampines
Comparable to sv61, this service is also very interesting in route esepcially for the areas it covers like Bt Timah, Dunearn, Geylang and Bedok.
88- Pasir Ris to Toa Payoh
This is one heck of a multiple towns service. From Pasir Ris, the service passses through Punggol, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh.
Well, if i have anymore, i will update this column. Until then, bye!
Lim Chu Kang Terminal ain't a terminal at all in my opinion. It is just a bus stop, without any office and the bus just parked at the road side. But the scenery, especially the Kelongs are nice.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:Tib 172 - nice to travel along the perimeter of Tengah Airbase, and looking at the argicultural farm.
Tib 175 - Seems that it weave in and out of the wide road; the road that also doubles up as runway for fighter jets.. and travel all the way to Lim Chu Kang terminal; quite an interesting terminal though.
Tib 911,912,913 to old Woodlands Chkpoint Terminal..I just like to see bendy buses turning into the terminal and finally into the bus bays.
SBST 199 - scenic view inside NTU campus, up and down the slopes.
whoa...been away from Spore since beginning of this yr and so many changes already...I should have taken a couple of pics of this old interchange b4 it goes....not so surprising to hear such news...coz this interchange really waste lots of space, esp the disused parking bays...cheers..Originally posted by off_service:Sad to tell you that the Old Woodlands Interchange has ceased operations and services 911, 912 and 913 no longer operate there. They now stop at the stop at Woodlands Centre Road along with services 170, 178 and 856.
Yes, it's a real pity the interchange was demolished. The terminal was a landmark of the old Woodlands Town Center, wasn't it?Originally posted by SBS3688Y:whoa...been away from Spore since beginning of this yr and so many changes already...I should have taken a couple of pics of this old interchange b4 it goes....not so surprising to hear such news...coz this interchange really waste lots of space, esp the disused parking bays...cheers..![]()
I agree. The terminal used to be a landmark but was isolated since the operation of W'lands Regional Interchange. Since then, this town became liveless and businesses suffered greatly. The same applied to Marsiling Terminal; esp those coffeeshops next to the terminal.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Yes, it's a real pity the interchange was demolished. I believe Marsiling Terminal was not too far away from Old Woodlands Terminal, isn't it? Yes, the place really became a ghost town once WRI opened for business.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:I agree. Many M'sians and Sporeans used to shop around these vicinities, and with the closing of W'lands Checkpoint terminal, the businesses and hawker centres there are going to be further hit, as more passengers bypass the town; as they now wait for buses along W'lands Ctr Rd...
Yes, eventually many of the SBS services were removed, leaving TIBS, and when the terminal closed all services were amended to Lor 1 Geylang.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:Its like that...Passengers bring fortune to businesses nearby the interchange/terminal, MRT stns and major bus-stops...
For instance, the old Crawford Street bus terminal used to rest many SBS svcs during the 80s...and brought fortunes to businesses and coffeeshops there...
Agreed. Service 99 had used a diverse variety of buses. From the Merc OF1413 to the Olympian. It was the 2nd service to enter Jurong West St 91 (the first was sv. 18Originally posted by PT21:
Hi for me my fav bus service are Service 99, although it has a number of old VOs 3 axle but the entire estate service 99 buses are one of the best,
Service 242 are also my fav service because it is the first feeder service in Singapore to use Superbus. I can say that Service 242 is the only feeder service in S'pore with Superbus.(It is not a Townlink Service).
Sv. 171 provides good scenery. It more or less travel uninterrupted between Yishun and Bukit Panjang. Try riding on a Sunday morning and you can enjoy a nice relaxing ride along Mandai Rd / Ave. There's lush greeneries and you can even get a glimpse of Seletar Reservoir. Sv. 138 is nice too.Originally posted by mercedes_hispano:Hello everybody. I created this new topic because I want to find out which are the services which you guys are in favour of, and why. Yes, that's right. Sv. 188 was also introduced in 1988 but a couple of months earlier than 99. It ran between Jurong Interchange and Jurong West St 91. The last of the Merc O306 buses were used on this service. When the O306 retired, NZMB Merc OF1417 were the main buses.Originally posted by Superbus:Hi Suhirman!
I think you meant Service 188 right?
Cheers and warm regards
This is interesting... My favourite service is Tibs Svc 184A. It is very special to me as this bendy bus goes into Ngee Ann Polytechnic campus. The drama of Svc 184A wowed me with 90 angle bending! And even can be able to turn right to the bus bay where Svc 74A parked outside Blk 73. Cool... However, Service 184A is gone after 17 March 2003Originally posted by SBS9816E:My favourite svcs....
105 - Cool Mk 4 DM 3500 and the recently added B10BLE CNG made the fleet look cool! Also, taking it and speeding along roads like Boon Lay Way and PIE would really be thrilling too!
133 - From the stage of Atlanteans, to the recent fleet of O.405, LO 3 Axle, and now the VSO, it has been my all-time favourite. Also, it takes me to places like Bras Basah Complex and Suntec City!
70 - Taking either LO 3 Axle or VSO would give you an overview of TIBS and SBST depots. Definitiely enjoyable, although it's a very very short sighting of at most 1.5 mins.
853 - Cool MB O.405 just whiz through places within mins. However, I don't like the off-peak freq.
147 - The preferred service over MRT. Sometimes it could just take 25 mins to travel b/w Serangoon and Little India. Also, I can save up a few cents from my EZ-Link.
