Expensive buses and high maintainence cost factors.Originally posted by stealthraider:if i remember correctly, i remember seeing some Super Olympian 3 axle which are Scania engined. Same goes for the low floor single deck buses, look almost the same from the ouside but some have Volvo engines, some have Scania engines.
Anyone know why SBS Transit buy so few new Scania buses? I think Scania engines are much quieter and thier engines give off a nice "humming" sound instead of the garish sounds produced by Volvo and Mercedes engines.
Volvo single deck buses also have this "screeching" sound problem with their engines, anyone knows what's the cause? This screeching sound does not come from braking but heard from the engine/wheels when the bus is moving. I am sure all of you heard this irritating sound before.

Can someone please wake this person up ? Scania Smooth ? It's as good as saying Airbus 340-200/300 is the powerful plane in the commercial field.Originally posted by SBS9818A:3-axled B10TLs with Scania engine? SBST have no problem with Scania, but they buy Volvo due to some office politics which I will elaborate if you email me.
Can someone please wake this person up? B10TL fast and comfortable? True.Originally posted by SBS9816E:Aiyoyoyoyo!!! Both Volvo and Scania are smooth. Well, in my opinion, all of us shouldn't discriminate buses till a very very large extent. Also, buses are buses. They aren't things that could affect us human beings extremely. Agree with me?

Only in HK, they have Scania N113 'Superbuses'. Over here in Singapore, there are Volvo Super Olympian, Volvo Olympia 3 Axle (Which are Volvo engined), and Leyland Olympian 3 Axle (Cummins engined).Originally posted by stealthraider:hmm... some Super Buses come with Scania engines right? anyway i think Scania engines are quieter, not as noisy as Volvo or Mercedes engines.
Some Superbuses are quieter, especially the older ones, than the newer ones, say Dennis Tridents or Volvo Super Olympians. One factor which contributes to the 'quietness' could be the gearbox of the bus, though lack of maintenance could result in 2 buses of the same model and the same gearbox having completely contrasting engine noise.Originally posted by stealthraider:hmm... some Super Buses come with Scania engines right? anyway i think Scania engines are quieter, not as noisy as Volvo or Mercedes engines.
Yes, the BR112DH was the quietest NAC double-deck, followed by the O305 I guess. I miss the O305s..Originally posted by Superbus:Some Superbuses are quieter, especially the older ones, than the newer ones, say Dennis Tridents or Volvo Super Olympians. And I agree that the Scania N113CRBs, the non-airconditioned ones (before refurbishment) is the quietest bus I've ever heard. Until they were refitted with Voith gearbox, they were not as quiet and smooth as before. If anyone can remember SBS' only Scania double deck bus, the BR112DH, is the quietest non-a/c double deck bus to ever grace our roads, IMO.
Cheers and warm regards
neh just wait till the smooth and nice L94UA coems to singapore on TIBS...then u know how smooth a scania is. I managed to ride SBS7003 on my way to school in 1988. It was running on sv. 187.Originally posted by xin1jun2:singapore once had a scania double deck bus. the scania 112BRD. it was registered as SBS7003. it served mostly service 2 or 7.
Windy says with Voith the N113CRBs are more smooth than before when they had Scania boxes. Hope L94UA or L94UB comes in for TIBS lohz! *drool*Originally posted by xin1jun2:neh just wait till the smooth and nice L94UA coems to singapore on TIBS...then u know how smooth a scania is. Technically Saab-Scania have merged and have since split. I've taken a SAAB 9-5 2.3T before, it was quite smooth and powerful. It looks like Swede manufacturers like power huh(except for Volvo which produces gutless engines and heaps of crap like the Mk III and B10TL.)Originally posted by stealthraider:say, u guys here know Scania and Saab are the same compnay right? if Scania engines are smooth, are Saab engines for cars just as smooth? i have not ride in a Saab before so I wun know. I do know that Lexus engines are also known for being smooth and quite, a grade above Toyota engines(unless u're in Japan, where they dun have Lexus but all wear the Toyota badge)
Well, i like both Volvos and Scanias, but the 12-m British bus leaves much to be desiredOriginally posted by SBS9818A:Technically Saab-Scania have merged and have since split. The 12 m long Dutch bus leaves a lot more to be desired. Imagine it struggling along Lentor when O405s and Lance 211s overtake. Haha..Originally posted by TIB1186Z:Well, i like both Volvos and Scanias, but the 12-m British bus leaves much to be desired
