Complaint of long freqency of service 74

One poly student wrote in to complain about:
Long frequency during peak hours Unable to board packed buses during peak hours Significant fall in number of service 74A buses. -
I agree fully with that...at my bus stops, students are forced to wait up to 25 mins for svc 74 during morning peak, and the no of 74 buses had dropped a lot this week...
The most frustrating thing is that they always zoom by the bus stop full of poly students -

i already passed the days of waiting for 74
me also had no problem of finding seats
as i live just behind the interchange
but hope them increase the frequency of 74 esp around 5pm till 7
cause thats when where both SP and NP had finsh their last lesson
and alot of ppl is taking that loh
but heng, me no more finish at 5pm lesson
haha
as for my time, bus are all right loh
cause mine is funny timing
6.30am, 8.30am and 12.30 pm
this is the 3 bus i will take every week to go sch loh

Yes. Sv. 74 is one of the more notorious services for bus frequency.

yes, i agree too.Glad that somebody put up a complaint.
Service 74 not only offer low frequency, it is also inconsistent in the arrival time. (you know sometimes we are ableto "predict" what time the bus will arrive")
I strongly suggest that they increase frequency esp during peak period. and replace all the single deck non aircon buses -
I don't think so... i think 74 frequency is quite good. sometimes got 2-3 74s when i wait for 75/184 at sunset. however morning, from 640-650am, cannot get a 74 at KAP.

haha i stay there.... honestly 74 is ok.... only yest i was taking 74 back to sunset way from ang mo kio.... i just missed the bus, to my suprise 5-10 min later another came along... -
er.. may i ask sth... wads the earliest 74 in the morning along dunearn rd??

Rgd the reduced frequency...could it be the collaboration of SBST and the train companies??? by reducing its frequency, students from SP are forced to take a train instead, as there is NEL and new train station in front of SP??? -

Well. svc 74 freqency is undoubtedly one of the most frequent svc around....sometimes even during non-peak every 4 minutes can get one bus, and no svc along the Bukit Timah road has a frequency and reliability as poor as svc 852.....u can wait for 12 mins on average in the morning and during the non-peak, frequencies of 20-40 mins are the norm.
I think the problem lies in the fact that SBST is responding to the commuter's concern too readily....pple complained about too few a/c buses, and SBST put a lot of A/C on 74, anyway it had to shift those VO 2 Ax to SLBP anyway. However, I think that they had too few DD ACs to go around, that's why now a lot of Volvo single decks, and a lot of pple could not get on board in the morning as a result. -

well after the VO2x all went out to jurong there... i guess 74 only left with about 6 buses of VO2x. so they had no choice to add in soem superbuses and SINGLE DECKERS!
anyhow...74's frequenmcy as staed in the bus guide is about 2-3 minutes during peak hours. i know that 242 is holding the record with 1 min per bus...along with 243 during peak hours

Sv. 242 and Sv. 243 have one minute frequency ah? Sv. 243 really needs double-decks lah. I thought Sv. 74 has about 10-15 2-axle VOs, and about the same number of 3-axle VOs, and about one or two Tridents as cameo?Originally posted by xin1jun2:74:

commuters are hard to please.....NEL...ppl say why wait so long haven open? open liao...complain why fare so expensive and wanna switch back to the buses..... why this bus no more liao and watever reasons.......so take CAB ok??

but there are also quite a number of people "living in a so-called poverty line"?? esp the uneducated, single-parent, problem family background, families with many mouths to feed or the older generation, there are still a significant number of people earning only abt $600-$1K/mth! and with their mearge salaries, even those with hold onto two jobs at anytime...they have to split their hard-earned money among their family and kins...and they only lived day by day..
even govt assistance is still far insufficient for their daily survival...worse still in the current economic crisis...and the gap between the rich and poor is getting wider and wider!
Can such people afford the basic necessities such as public transport? and how many percent of people need to transfer onto buses or trains for the single journey? and what's the total cost for that single journey alone? and these poor ones have to pay for their food expenses, medical, water and electricity...what a sad truth... -
Somemore there are lesser aircon buses for service 74! KNN!
