Would think that due to the traffic condition there.Originally posted by th1988:If you are at Macpherson Kopitiam, you may want to walk to Jalan Kolam Ayer (Siemens Ctr) instead of POSBank to take 23 which is much faster than 8. Do you know about this actually?
Oh yes, 966 will not call Serangoon Road (Opp S'goon Fire Post), any reason of that?
Most of the time it's the Temasek Polytechnic students who take 8 to Tampines interchange. However, 8 goes by a more circuitous road to Tampines Interchange than 23. So why not deploy more Superbuses for 23 and increase its frequency? Usually the upper and lower decks of 23 are almost filled when I board 23 from Siemens Centre towards Tampines each time. Alternatively, they could also introduce shortworking trips from Tampines to Bedok Reservoir Rd and then back to Tampines as 23A. These would be better alternatives in my opinion.Originally posted by Superbus:It depends on which time of the day. The sector between Bedok Reservoir Road and Tampines Interchange during the morning peak is sometimes very high, due to the students. That goes the same during the afternoon. There are times even a Service 8 Superbus couldn't cope with the demand.
And there is times when many Service 8 Superbus with only 20% of the seats filled at any other times of the day. Which makes me wonder, why put a VSO, even on a Sunday, when there is little demand?

Beside services 8 and 23 as mentioned above, don't the TP students take services 15 and 69 to Tampines Central?Originally posted by foxtrot1985:Most of the time it's the Temasek Polytechnic students who take 8 to Tampines interchange. They do. But since 23 is faster to Tampines Interchange, it's more popular with the students. Actually, based on my observations for the past 2 years, most of the students took Service 15 and 23 and alighted at Tampines Ave 5. The rest of the students on Service 15 alighted along Tampines Ave 4 and Ave 7.Originally posted by tranquilice:Beside services 8 and 23 as mentioned above, don't the TP students take services 15 and 69 to Tampines Central?
Yes, Sv. 23 is a popular service for TP students.Originally posted by Superbus:They do. But since 23 is faster to Tampines Interchange, it's more popular with the students. Yes, Sv. 23 is a fast and convienient link from Tampines - Jln Besar.Originally posted by service_238:Service 8 is a good route. It provides links between Toa Payoh & Ubi, Tampines West & Ubi/Paya Lebar Rd/Macpherson, Temasek Poly & Paya Lebar/Macpherson/Toa Payoh. I guess the reason for SBST having the circuitious route along Ave 7 2 & 1 is because they want much of Tampines to have direct links with other places and also the above-mentioned places. I have once seen one packed single-deck Svc 8 at Jln Toa Payoh towards Tampines.
Service 23 is owesome too! Providing the Bendemeer/Jln Besar corridor with direct link to TP. Cheers!
The traffic condition along PIE has a say in the journey time of service 23. Sometime along PIE (towards Tampines), 2 or even 3 buses of this service follow closely to one another.Originally posted by foxtrot1985:Hmm... the journey time of 8 may somehow be comparable to 23's... I was at Temasek Poly last Friday waiting for 23 when two 8s passed by. A minute later, my 23 came and when I alighted opp Siemens Ctr along Jln Kolam Ayer, I walked to the bus-stop opp Macpherson Kopitiam and while walking there, I saw in the distance that they had already reached tthere...
If it could still ply the previous route of Tampines - Tomlinson Rd, it will be even better, lessening the load of service 65 and is also an alternative to MRT.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Yes, Sv. 23 is a fast and convienient link from Tampines - Jln Besar.
That time was non-peak at about 12 plus in the afternoon... Again, I think it really depends on how fast the driver wants to travel on the expressway too...Originally posted by tranquilice:The traffic condition along PIE has a say in the journey time of service 23. I read somewhere in the forums that 23 was one of the services affected after the introduction of the MRT...Originally posted by tranquilice:Is it because of the MRT that service 23 is cut back to Rochor Canal Rd?
Correct. It was cut back to Rochor Canal Rd, from Tomlinson Rd previously.Originally posted by foxtrot1985:I read somewhere in the forums that 23 was one of the services affected after the introduction of the MRT...
Very True.. Ever since the Leylands disappeared from 154 and 157, there has been more single deckers in their fleet. If possible I'll try to check out Service 8's demand during peak hours next month.Originally posted by th1988:Service 154 now has a almost fully AC fleet, must be thanks with the NEL rationalisation which freed up many 0405 to 154.
Just to give you a brief idea of the demand for 8...Originally posted by th1988:Actually, service 8 demand does not justify for ADDs. Well, I was at the Opp POSBank BS at 1750-1800, 3623 (90) first arrived with a fully loaded trip, then 9526 (came with 80 passengers (Just nice of a ASD loading), then a 0405 (
arrived with 80% loading with 3578 (90) arrived with 80% loading and lastly 0405 (
with 40% loading. So service 8 is not a very high demand service after all, so why SBS insist that it is a high demand service as there are empty trips regularly too.
SBS seems not to be bothered of 90 as it has a fully NAC fleet on wkdays. PAC Sv has to be PAC DAILY not just Sat and Sun. 90 is based at HQ depot some more...

I've noticed the same thing too. And to add on to what foxtrot1985 has mentioned, not all sectors of Service 8's routes has the demand. Service 8, like any other bus services, though with a few exceptions, has high demands on certain sectors of its route and low demands on other sectors. But come to think again, there are certain odd hours during the day when Service 8 really does need Superbuses, apart from the peak hours.Originally posted by foxtrot1985:Just to give you a brief idea of the demand for 8...
I took 8 from Tampines Ave 1 to Macpherson Kopitiam yesterday at around 12 plus... It was a single-deck bus and judging from the boarding and alighting patterns, it seems that most of the demand stems from people travelling from Tampines/Bedok Reservoir to Eunos area... The single-deckered bus's seats were filled just nice even though it was off-peak up to before Macpherson Road where the bus started to get emptier...
Also, I took it once from SAFRA Tampines towards Tampines Ave 1 (the neighbourhood centre beside Tampines East CC) during peak hours and it was again a single-deckered bus and it was packed to the brim then...
Yes and more Scanias come to take over their place in BNDEP.Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:That make senses , the Scania OAcs replace the nac scanias in Braddel depot and the nac scanias are moved over to bedok north depot.
I would say just be contented with it. Be glad SBST put a/c buses on sv 90 during peak hours. They can take all of them off if they want it to for some reasons.Originally posted by th1988:Airbus:
Sorry ah, 90 will not be in the list as clearly they said that there is not enough AC buses or that they are just bias to PLAB routes as 94 also is almost NAC as you are saying abt the CRBs at HQ.
SBS is still trying to be funny with me even I have reported the matter to PTC and LTA by flouting the PAC rule during off peak.
