what models is the old sbs merc bus with the roof number sign?
anybody knows any website or pictures of old sbs buses from 1983-88?
Somapah terminal at the junction of Upp Changi Rd East and Simei Rd. The first (and last time too) I visited this terminal is by service 155 (Toa Payoh - Somapah) in the mid 1980s, after that I transferred to service 9 to Changi Airport Cargo Complex outside the terminal, and this service 9 I took went by a route different from today.Originally posted by off_service:Old Woodlands Interchange (Woodlands Centre Road)
Somali Terminal?
What do you mean by "roof number sign". If you are saying the raised roof partition for the destination sign, I reckon it's Volvo B57. Hope you can provide more details.

It should be Hougang Ave 3. Is there really a road called "Tampines Way" in Hougang then? What services terminate here?Originally posted by SBS9818A:Tampines Way Terminal (current HG Ave 2 b/w Upper Serangoon Rd and Tampines Rd)

Yes, the current HG Ave 3. AFAIK Sv. 86 terminated there.Originally posted by tranquilice:It should be Hougang Ave 3. Is there really a road called "Tampines Way" in Hougang then? What services terminate here?
Do you mean Hougang Ave 3 is formerly called Tampines Way? Do you know the route of this service 86?Originally posted by SBS9818A:Yes, the current HG Ave 3. AFAIK Sv. 86 terminated there.
Yes, formerly called Tampines Way. No idea of the route though. Can someone enlighten us?Originally posted by tranquilice:Do you mean Hougang Ave 3 is formerly called Tampines Way? Do you know the route of this service 86?
How do you find out that it's formerly called Tampines Way? Street directory? Bus guide?Originally posted by SBS9818A:Yes, formerly called Tampines Way. No idea of the route though. Can someone enlighten us?
1981 Street Directory.Originally posted by tranquilice:How do you find out that it's formerly called Tampines Way? Street directory? Bus guide?
That book you were talking about was the 1985 Bus Guide. It came together with a Bus Map. The book had a shadow of a B57 on its cover with a map of the CBD in the background. The 1984 Bus Guide was pocket-sized, made from inferior quality paper and cost 70c. It had a grey cover with 4 coloured arrows intersecting each other. Go to the TIBS Shop at Yishun Interchange if you would like to see how they look like.Originally posted by Yusry:According to my faint memories of the 1984 bus guide (a very thick book with the pages printed in landscape mode, but bounded long-side), it is around the area of the former round-about at Jln Anak Bukit/Upper Bukit Timah Road/Dunearn Road/Clementi Road.
I can only recall service 5 terminating there.
They're both correct. The bus you were referring to was a Mercedes-Benz OF1413 with (Duple) Metsec body. 100 of these buses were introduced in 1978. In the same year, there was also a Volvo B57 demonstrator bus with the same type of body, SBS 6790 P.Originally posted by carbikebus:it's not volvo, mercedes in year 1984-86 if not wrong.i think it is the 3rd merc models,a lot of this buses can be seen at jurong inter last time.anyway, really can't remember the model, unless see the pictures.

Judging from the route, it seems like the current Service 82 (Before 7/12/03). Did Svc 82 took over the route in the late 1980s? Or was Svc 86 withdrawn due to route duplication?Originally posted by ^tamago^:SERVICE 86 (Tampines Way - Shenton Way):
Tampines Way Terminal, Upp Serangoon Rd, Bendemeer Rd, (Lavender St, Crawford St), Beach Rd, (Nicoll Highway), Connaught Dr, (Fullerton Rd), Collyer Quay, Raffles Quay, Shenton Way, (Palmer Rd) and Shenton Way Terminal.
And return via Shenton Way Terminal, Palmer Rd, Anson Rd, Robinson Rd, (Collyer Quay, Fullerton Rd), Empress Place, (St Andrew's Rd), Beach Rd, (Jln Sultan, Victoria St, Lavender St), Serangoon Rd, Upp Serangoon Rd and Tampines Way Terminal.
NOTE: Introduced before 1979. Withdrawn between 1983-1986. First service in Singapore to use a certain model of newly-introduction double-deckers (i think - those who have The Singapore Bus Handbook check it out). This is a partial-express service (Lavender St - Beach Rd).
