Very good question! I have the same question in mind. For all we know, Service 174's route is only amended at Chin Swee Road, with the rest of the route being retained. So why now deploy Superbuses?Originally posted by TIB822C:Hey there everyone
Yesterday I was on another bus around Bt Timah Road when I saw double decker buses (It's either VO or LO 3 axle, can't see properly) being deployed on Service 174. And that sparks my question: Why do SBS Transit only deployed double decker buses on the amended Service 174 and not its previous old route?
To many spare buses from amended 82 and 62?Originally posted by TIB822C:Hey there everyone

Digest dis: Dis morning waiting for my bus, saw TWO "174" dbl decker together... Then 1 min after those 2 left, ONE single deck "174" came... Cld see da 3rd bus driver shook his head seeing da TWO dbl deckers in front of him.Originally posted by foxtrot1985:Yup, I saw one along Bt Timah Rd just now too... It's a LO Superbus...
Yeah, I noticed this too during my ride on DD 174. Saw a few SD 174 drivers slowing down and looking towards the DD everytime they "met" along the road, especially one along Jurong Road.Originally posted by loneryu00:Digest dis: Dis morning waiting for my bus, saw TWO "174" dbl decker together... Dat so? Hmm... maybe I shld try some prank... hiak hiak hiakOriginally posted by Yusry:Another thing I have noticed about the ride on the DD 174 is that the driver seems to be a DD novice.
Everytime the bus had to turn, he would slow down A LOT, to the extent that it was just a short moment from a complete halt.
And when he wants to stop the bus, I could sense he was not used to pressing the correct amount of pedal pressure. He would press and release a few times, and so you could feel the bus surging forward.
Yes, today I saw 2 LO 3 axles for training purposes, SBS 9131 Y and SBS 9152 L. I suppose it is for the buses are for service 174, as there are at least 1 instructor (they are SBST drivers, perhaps current LO 3 axles drivers) instructing the driver the way to reverse out from the bus bay (at service 174's bay at Boon Lay Int).Originally posted by Yusry:Another thing I have noticed about the ride on the DD 174 is that the driver seems to be a DD novice.

Even so, I tink they shld have some proper timing... Dun feel like seeing 3 "174" dbl deckers whenever I wait for my bus... Irks mee... This is the first time service 174 uses double deckers, so the drivers are definitely novice. I think more double deckers will appear on service 174 once school term starts.
Load factor is fabulous. And I'm sick of O405s anyway. Took too many in Sydney and too many in Singapore.Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:I rather be in the mercedes then in the LO 3 axles . Anyway how is the load factor for the DD buses on 174 ?
But after a while they will get used to it, just like Sv. 55 which only got its DDs this year, at the start, the drivers were unsure but now they are wonderful at handling them.Originally posted by Yusry:Another thing I have noticed about the ride on the DD 174 is that the driver seems to be a DD novice.

SAVE MONEY! Same for Sv. 107 and Sv. 62, but HOW much can they possibly save by not printing letters.Originally posted by sbs&tibs:I saw 174 having Double Decker too. But why the service plate(front) does not show the destination of the route?
Is that the case for 62 too?Originally posted by SBS9818A:SAVE MONEY! Same for Sv. 107 and Sv. 62, but HOW much can they possibly save by not printing letters.
Yes! Sv. 62 double-deck desto is just the big digits 62. Wonder if Sv. 136 still got DDs.Originally posted by Yusry:Is that the case for 62 too?
I can understand why 107 does not have route details because it has alternative routes. Same goes with 70.
Not only that, in case they need to amend any of the routes (e.g. in case of future Circle Line rationalisation exercises), they need not reprint the front service plates again to reflect the changes (e.g. new destinations). Probably they realised they were spending too much money unnecessarily on reprinting front service plates during the NEL rationalisation exercise. Next time they just need to reprint the side service detail plate should there be any amendments.Originally posted by SBS9818A:SAVE MONEY! 136 somehow has no DD at this moment. I saw SBS 9190 B, a sv136 bus, on Sv 70 today...Originally posted by SBS9818A:Yes! Sv. 62 double-deck desto is just the big digits 62. Wonder if Sv. 136 still got DDs.
Perhaps only during peak hours, Sv. 136 borrows DDs, like it did with SBS 9821P.Originally posted by SBS9816E:136 somehow has no DD at this moment. I saw SBS 9190 B, a sv136 bus, on Sv 70 today...
I think most of the passengers taking 136 are students. It's likely DD buses will be redeployed when school reopens next year. This is like the case of 74 now when there are so many SD 74s compared to during school semester.Originally posted by SBS9816E:136 somehow has no DD at this moment. And also, the Superbuses was deployed so as to meet the demand from the students from schools along the route. And since right now it's the holidays, the demand is not there at the moment for (a) Superbus(es) to be deployed.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Perhaps only during peak hours, Sv. 136 borrows DDs, like it did with SBS 9821P.
Yes, expect to see some back on Sv. 136 next month.Originally posted by Superbus:And also, the Superbuses was deployed so as to meet the demand from the students from schools along the route.
