When did the government say that ERL and BTL will not be built for the next 10 years? I have heard nothing.Originally posted by th1988:Actually, in view of the bad economy conditions. The govt has announced that ERL and BTL will not be built for the next 10 years. So only the CCL will be built
Exactly. The Government only stated that it will expedite the development of the 3 projects, and actual schedule will depend on the state of economy and also how fast they can complete engineering and technical studies. No mention of any delays in the project whatsoever currently.Originally posted by iamgoondu:When did the government say that ERL and BTL will not be built for the next 10 years? I have heard nothing.
It was sometime in 2003. It was in view of the poor economy.Originally posted by iamgoondu:When did the government say that ERL and BTL will not be built for the next 10 years? I have heard nothing.
Sources please, dig up news archives if you have to.Originally posted by th1988:It was sometime in 2003. It was in view of the poor economy.
If I'm not mistaken, the Government merely said that the 3 new rail projects won't be built that soon, but still within the 10-15 years timeframe. Even the LTA website still puts the expected development of the 3 new rail projects at around 10-15 years, no change in the timeframe.Originally posted by th1988:It was sometime in 2003. no BTL ERL or whatever L. CBS is best at connecting places in the shortest timeOriginally posted by Superbus:If I'm not mistaken, the Government merely said that the 3 new rail projects won't be built that soon, but still within the 10-15 years timeframe. the 10-15yrs time frame was set when the project was first announced. 2001 if i m not wrong. it's 2004 and LTA still using the same timeframe.Originally posted by Superbus:If I'm not mistaken, the Government merely said that the 3 new rail projects won't be built that soon, but still within the 10-15 years timeframe. I feels that this link to marine parade should exist. because, i feel that take 135 from Paya Lebar Station is a little slow to reach Marine Parade!! because bus always slower because traffic light and bus stops and lots of vehicles on the roads...Originally posted by ^tamago^:actually it's more like they will extend the PYL-MRP sector in the future to become ERL but at the moment a high-speed express rail link between PYL and MRP looks justified...

A very good question. I do not have the answer.Originally posted by disappear:do u think the Bukit Timah Line will actually link Newton and Little India and Bugis Stations together? or will it just stop at Newton?
I think it should.. There's a post somewhere in this thread or in this forum that CCL's Nicoll Highway and Millenia Stations are just like CTH and RFP - stacked tunnels. There's a high possibility that BTL will ply here, then towards Bugis/Lavender, then Little India and Newton and so on...Originally posted by disappear:do u think the Bukit Timah Line will actually link Newton and Little India and Bugis Stations together? or will it just stop at Newton?
I would like to have an extension of EW lines to Jurong Industrial Estates and Tuas instead. There are many workers working in Tuas and they are are spending much of their time travelling. Imagine another 30minutes ride from Boon Lay to Tuas?Originally posted by BlessingSatan:My only hope that the Government do not have any plans to built a rail systems to places like the Jurong industrial areas,Or else Bye Bye JIS.
My rail preferances>SMRT EW/NS lines & SBST NE lines.
CCL?![]()
With a multi storey carpark blocking the train viaduct after BNL, i dont think its possible for an extension. Maybe a Jurong Regional Line helpsOriginally posted by iamgoondu:I would like to have an extension of EW lines to Jurong Industrial Estates and Tuas instead. If we can tear down blocks of flats for SERS, why can't we tear down the MSCP?Originally posted by service_238:With a multi storey carpark blocking the train viaduct after BNL, i dont think its possible for an extension. Maybe a Jurong Regional Line helps
I'd recommend BTL to end at the Ten Mile JunctionOriginally posted by iamgoondu:Looking at the rail map closely,

I would like to have BTL link to Little India and Bugis. However Little India is just a stop away from Dhoby Ghaut interchange and Bugis is just a stop away from City Hall interchange too. There is little derived benefits from making these links. And all lands after Newton are probably built up and densely populated, huge costs will incur. Perhaps you can tell us where exactly those stations after Newton for BTL will be?
Where do you expect BTL to terminate?
But I still think they will build Bugis and Little India stations as they won't sacrifice connectivity in this case. After all, they want to model our rail transport system after London's, where it's everywhere.Originally posted by iamgoondu:Looking at the rail map closely,

The BTL depot could be at Kranji area. There's vast land space available. Just clear some forests and that should suffice.Originally posted by ^tamago^:But I still think they will build Bugis and Little India stations as they won't sacrifice connectivity in this case. Regarding land costs & constraints along Bukit Timah Rd, I have the idea that the stations will be built on either side of the road if possible, if not under the Bukit Timah Canal like Chinatown station.
For example, if there is to be a Namly (working name) station serving the NJC, HCJC, TCHS, NYGH and RGPS then it could well be built right under the road nearer to TCHS with underpasses to the other side since there is ample space for construction to take place by using the school field of TCHS. And it is unlikely for new buildings to come up over the field that could affect the foundations & station box of the station.
If there is to be a Balmoral (working name) station outside ACS (Barker), it could be built under the river since on both sides of the road are built-up areas.
The major problem is if there is a Whitley (working name) station where will it be built as the Whitley Rd/Bt Timah Rd area is too constrained.
Another major problem is where would the depot be sited. A MRT depot requires about 30 hectares of space.
I expect the BTL to terminate at Kranji (NSL) MRT Interchange together with the future link to Malaysia, but Bukit Panjang remains a high possibility.
there r still lotsa land along Upper Bukit Timah Road/Bukit Timah Road/Dunearn Road. 1 of them is the old turf club... nowadays, the depot will not be depot only. it will be integrated with other developments.Originally posted by ^tamago^:Another major problem is where would the depot be sited.
