what SBS9818A meant i think was that from the moment the bus enters BKE to the time it reaches TPY area, it takes 18 min. From what i can see is that it takes 6-7min to clear Woodlands area. But then again he might be correct because i had experienced once on 966.
Eunos MRT - Jln Toa Payoh = 10min.
The time spent on PIE alone was only 5min!
The traffic conditions on the PIE then was average without any severe jams. Everything was free flowing despite the amount of vehicles on the road. -

Even if there is timetable, the total jorney time is 65 min. Trellis Twr to MP is 22 mins.
If the timetable is not accurate, tell this to Tibs. Tibs won't believe you as it is a difference of 60% of time.
I mean look at maths, if dist is 21km, then it takes 21 mins. What abt Traffic lights, BS stopping? -

I would like you to try out the route itself. I believe the estimation given by TIBS are the maximum when there is heavy vehicular flow. For example, the defunct service 989 was estimated to arrive at Changi Airport from Choa Chu Kang for 126 mins, when actually it only needs around 90 minutes.
Try out before making your comments. That's my best advise. -

I checked the road map, dist from WDL Int to Trellis Twr is 20km.
As your tell me that the timetable is inaccurate, I can tell you this, the drivers are supposed to tell their heads abt the inaccurate timetable. -
Not say i wanna say ah... Even 238 drivers drive ahead of schedule. The timesheet says 27min per trip but they only take 22-24 min!

20km in 18min means the average speed is 66.667 km/h
20km in 30min means the average speed is 40.000 km/h
20km in 42min means the average speed is 28.571 km/h!
Do u think a TIBS bus would be CRAWLING on the BKE and PIE? -

If speed limiters are a must on all buses, how come I see Singapore-Johore Express buses roaring past my poor TIBS O405, slowly rumbling along BKE? It's so sad to see the forlorn look on the faces of the poor TIBS drivers who are unable to catch up with the Singapore-Johore Express.
Let's put things this way. I have taken 966 a few times before. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the stop opposite CJC. Put the distance as 20km as you have mentioned.
20 mins = 1/3 of an hour.
Speed = Distance / Time = 20 / (1/3) = 60km/h
Therefore, the bus could not have exceeded the speed limit of 60km/h. It isn't that great a matter if bus drivers exceed the speed limits by a bit. If everyone is so concerned about speed limits, then let me assure you that there will be far more accidents on the roads now. Why? Because everybody will be trying to peer at their speedometers while driving. -
I utterly pity the CRC departments of both companies. They have to withstand all your bloody nonsense over little things like speed limiters.

While we are on the topic of speed limiters, let me explain HOW THESE GADGETS WORK AND WHY YOU CAN STILL GOVE ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT EVEN WHEN THESE GADGETS ARE WORKING IN PERFECT CONDITION.
Sorry for the caps, I'm just super irritated by somebody.
As explained to The_Bus_Guide on our Hougang Central outing, speed limiters simply cut off fuel supply when it reaches a set limit, in this case 60km/h. There is no physical/mechanical limiter that, die die, disallows a vehicle to go above 60km/h.
When the fuel is cut off, there are still remaining fuel in the engine and the bus can continue accelerating. Eventually, the the bus will slow down to approximately 60km/h and the fuel supply will be returned. And if I'm not wrong, the 60km/h is measured by the RPM of the engine and not by the actual rotation of the driving axle.
In the case of automatic vehicles, the engine is not "physically" connected to the driving axle, but instead does through a torque converter, which is a chamber of oils linking the engine axle and the wheel axle. This means, the wheel axle (before gear box, connected to torque converter) can still be RPMing higher than the engine, so when engine "slows down to 60km/h", the bus still moves at "70km/h" or so - even higher if the bus is moving downhill.
This means, fuel can still be supplied to the engine even if the bus is moving higher than 60km/h (as long engine is running at below "60km/h"). This accounts for the reason why buses and other limited vehicles can still go higher than 60km/h even when the speed limiter is set at 60km/h. I would say this would result in a discrepancy of about 5 - 10km/h. So buses could be travelling at a max of 70km/h or so.
Hope this clears the topic on speed limiters. Please note that this information is from what I have gathered so far and not from a horses' mouth (eg. Siemens or other speed limiter equipment manufacters).
Others with more technical/engineering knowledge, please feel free to contribute. I'm just a computer science undergrad who happens to be interested in mechanical engineering.
