  take 23, cos 23 go by expressway. Then when reach the civil defence base, drop and walk to the bus stop oppsite mapherson food court to take 8. this way u reach Toa Payoh in 40 to 50mins instead of 90mins

  I have always wanted to find out this answer... Other than the start to end services, i.e 8 28 31, here are a few alternatives.. Some of which have been mentioned already.. They will not be ranked in any way.
  
  BUS only.
  TAM - 23 to Bendemeer Rd (Blk 54), then 26 to TPY. Alternatively, take 61 107 853 from Bendemeer Rd (Blk 54) to Serangoon Rd (St Michael's Place) then take 26 or 31. This is to increase your chances of getting to TPY faster.
  TAM - 23 to Jln Kolam Ayer (SCDF), walk under Woodsville Flyover then take 8 or 90 from Macpherson Rd (Opp POSBank) to TPY.
  TAM - 22 or 65 to Eunos Link (Blk 312), 93 to Braddell Rd (Blk 219), then 28 73 105 153 155 159 238 to TPY/TP MRT. Alternatively, take 8 from Eunos Link (Blk 312) towards TPY.
  TAM - 22 or 65 to Bedok Reservoir Rd (Majority except 2 pairs between BN Ave 3 and TAM Ave 1), then 506 to Lor 6 Toa Payoh (TP Swim Complex), walk to TPY. Alternatively, take 21 from Tampines Ave 4 (TAM MRT) to Bedok Reservoir Rd.
  15 from Tampines Ave 4 (TAM MRT) towards Jln Eunos (Opp Eunos MRT), cross the road and take 966 to Jln Toa Payoh (Opp Blk 195), then 8 26 31 90 or 142 to TPY.
  TAM - 18 to BDK, then 26 to TPY.
  TAM - 72 to Tampines Rd or Hougang Ave 3 (Blk 21) then take 81 to Upp Serangoon Rd (KVN Stn) then take 153 to Lor 2 Toa Payoh (TPY MRT)
  TAM - 72 to Hougang Central (HGN) then take 153 from HGN Int to Lor 2 Toa Payoh (TPY MRT).
  
  Bus and MRT
  MRT: TAM - BDK, then 26 to TPY
  18 from TAM to BDK, then MRT: BDK - KAL, then 26 or 31 from Lor 1 Geylang (Blk towards TPY. Alternatively, MRT: BDK - PYL, then 28 or 155 to TPY from Paya Lebar Rd (PYL MRT).
  MRT: TAM - KAL, then 26 or 31 from Lor 1 Geylang (Blk towards TPY.
  MRT: TAM - PYL, then 28 or 155 from Paya Lebar Rd (PYL MRT) towards TPY.
  MRT: TAM - EUN, then walk to Jln Eunos (EUN MRT) to take 966 to Jln Toa Payoh (Opp Blk 195), then 8 26 31 90 or 142 to TPY.
  
  I hope that answers MOST of the solutions.
  
  If my service 20 comes out, just take it from Tampines Ave 4 (TAM MRT) and alight at Lor 6 Toa Payoh (TP Swim Complex). That would be cool!

  By the way, my most preferred way of getting home from Tampines the fastest way is the first option that i suggested under the BUS ONLY category.

  By the way, this is just a joyride, how is the option of Tampines-Bedok-Toa Payoh-Bishan-Tampines? What can I take between Toa Payoh and Bishan? Am planning to take Services 9, 26, (TPY-Bishan service), and 53. How long would it take?

  72 to Tampines

  53 to Pasir Ris Dr 1
  3 39 81 to Tampines.
  
  Note: You can take 3 from PSR Dr 1 at the bus stop near the MRT Viaduct. Otherwise, its 39 or 81.
  
  Estimated time taken: 2.5 - 3 hrs.

  Thanks, I think I will take Service 9 instead of 18, since I am not close to Tampines Interchange, although it is my 'home' interchange.
  
  Why do you suggest getting off Service 53? It circles around Pasir Ris too much? And I better not have too many segments or my mom will complain that my ezlink card value will be used up too fast

  You can get off service 53 along Pasir Ris Drive 12 (between TPE and Drive 1), Pasir Ris Drive 1 (between Drive 12 and Loyang Ave), and transfer to services 39 or 81 back to Tampines Ave 7 or service 39 back to Tampines Ave 2.

  other than that ZYXbus has plans for a service 1 that runs from ZYX1 Pasir ris - delta bus ter via tampines ave 7 (central)
  
  via lower delta road, Jln bt merah, queensway, farrer road, adam road, PIE express - jln toa payoh - toa payoh new town central - PIE again - PIE still - tampines ave 5, ave 4, ave 7, ave 9 (express), ave12 (express) pasir ris drive 6, central and pasir ris int

  No need to walk at all. Take 23 and alight at Bendemeer Road, outside Blk 54 and change to 26. 26 will loop back to Serangoon Road at Whampoa East and straight on to Toa Payoh.

  with 8's cracky frequency, i prefer 26/31
