I dunno which year Circuit Link existed, but I can find this road in 1988 street directory.Originally posted by Yusry:Sounds plausible. I think Circuit Link did not exist then. Because even service 60 went by Aljunied Road to enter MacPherson estate before being amended to ply Geyland East Central.
Yes, you are correct. However for the Bedok - Serangoon route, it plied Geylang Rd/Sims Ave, as stated in the 1992 bus guide.Originally posted by Superbus:According to my 1985 Bus Map, the service plied Aljunied Road right up till Guillemard Road, then it turned right, and then left towards Mountbatten Road.

I believe there was only service 154 from Jln Toa Payoh to this part of MacPherson Rd back then.Originally posted by th1988:So how to get to Macpherson Road (POSBank, Gulab Bldg) before 8, 90 came?

After repeatedly browsing through the 1985 Bus Map, I can make out the following for Service 8, Bedok to Marina Centre via Anson Road/Robinson Road, as stated in the Map itself. I'm not sure if the route was amended after 1985. Here goes:
[b]Bedok Interchange, Bedok North Ave 1, Bedok South Road, Bedok South Ave 1, East Coast Parkway, Keppel Road, Anson Road, Robinson Road, Collyer Quay, Fullerton Road, High Street*, St Andrews Road, Marina Centre**, East Coast Parkway, Bedok South Ave 1, Bedok South Road, Bedok Interchange.
*Empress Place then was known as High Street
**No indication in the map whatsoever how the route goes in Marina Centre, Service 8's route markings disappears at the junction of Nicoll Highway/Bras Basah Rd/St Andrews Road.
Conclusion as of 1985: Service 8 did not pass Marina Centre twice. It exited from ECP at Keppel Road and enters back ECP from Republic Boulevard.

I second your opinion. Back then only the mention roads are in existence.Originally posted by service_238:I think it went by Raffles Boulevard as it was the only only between Nicoll highway and republic boulevard.
Raffles Ave did not exist back then?Originally posted by service_238:I think it went by Raffles Boulevard as it was the only only between Nicoll highway and republic boulevard.
Marina Centre is reclaimed land. Raffles Blvd and what not didn't exist till the late 1980s although the Benjamin Sheares Bridge was completed around 1984. The sea was once a stone's throw from Nicoll Highway. It stretched from Merdeka Bridge right up to the Esplanade.Originally posted by tranquilice:Raffles Ave did not exist back then?
That is correct. Circuit Link didn't exist until 1986, methinks. There was a road named Lor Bengkok which connected Circuit Rd to Paya Lebar Rd (but not anymore). Buses passing through MacPherson Estate didn't use this road. Instead, they entered and exited at Aljunied Rd via Merpati Rd and Mattar Rd respectively. Hence, they used to ply the same set of roads in both directions and gave rise to the need of white and green destos.Originally posted by Yusry:Sounds plausible. Firstly, Empress Pl is Empress Pl and High St is High St. Empress Pl is actually the area between Victora Theatre and the S'pore River while High St is a road behind Victoria Theatre.Originally posted by Superbus:*Empress Place then was known as High Street

The stretch of "Aljunied Road" between Sims Avenue and Guillemard Road is actually called "Geylang Lor 22".Originally posted by Superbus:According to my 1985 Bus Map, the service plied Aljunied Road right up till Guillemard Road, then it turned right, and then left towards Mountbatten Road.

I've yet to confirm this info which is contained in Bus Guide 88. It was likely that the section between Nicoll Highway and Fort Rd was deleted and the route was amended via Raffles Blvd to get to the ECP. In this case, Marina Centre was the last stop before heading back to Bedok. Hence, the Bedok - Marina Centre desto.Originally posted by Yusry:What was it's route when service 8 desto was Bedok - Marina Centre?
