Svc 36 is a very well planned route IMO. It provides a speedy link from City to Marine Parade and from City/ Marine Parade to Airport.
In fact, it is often cheaper and faster to take svc 36 instead of the Rabid hole.
Some may say that it is a winding route by going into Marine Parade, but IMO its perfectly justified as the pros of serving one more popular area outweighs the increased time taken,

Svc 39 ( of course! It provides a very speedy link to PSR ,and to Changi V/ Cargo Centre from Yishun with transfer to 89. Its faster than svc 969 to TMP and transfer 19 )
Svc 969 , 965 , 858 ( vital links to the east! )
and not forgetting that 969 and 965 owes its roots to svc 168 and 161 respectively, this an example of competition working. Svc 168 and 161 are one of the best routes in SBST IMO -

Another well planned service IMO is service 857, fast and convenient service linking Yishun to Upp S'goon, Bendeemer, Little India, Bencoolen St and Suntec City.
Sadly, this is a likely candidate for the CCL chops I think

Also it is still premature to talk abt rationalisation as yet. Most bus rts do not duplicate with CCL directly. May be just lesser rts to one end destination -
